Lattice Lotka-Volterra model with long range mixing

A spatio-temporal process in the Lattice Lotka Volterra (LLV) model, when realized on low dimensional support, is studied. It is shown that the introduction of a long-range mixing causes a drastic change in the system’s behavior, which transits from small random-like fluctuations to global oscillations when the mixing rate transcends above a critical point. The amplitude of the induced oscillations is well defined by the mixing rate and is insensitive to the initial conditions and the lattice size variations. The observed behavior essentially differs from that predicted by the Mean-Field model which is conservative. The oscillations are of limit-cycle type and appear as a stochastic analog of a Hopf bifurcation.

Effect of background electrolyte concentration on the heat effects in the processes of formation of L-asparagine complexes with Cu<Superscript>2+</Superscript> ions in aqueous solution

A direct calorimetric method was used to measure the heat effects in the reactions of formation of Cu(II) complexes with L-asparagine in aqueous solutions at 298.15 K and ionic strength 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 (KNO₃). The standard thermodynamic characteristics (Δ_r H ⁰, Δ_r G ⁰, Δ_r S ⁰) of the processes of complex formation in the system under study were calculated.     

The Embedding Theorem for Cantor Varieties

Let m and n be fixed integers, with 1 m < n. A Cantor variety C _m,n is a variety of algebras with m n-ary and n m-ary basic operations which is defined in a signature ={g₁,...,g_m,f₁,...,f_n} by the identities f_ig₁x₁,...,x_n),...,g_mx₁,...,x_n) = x_i, _i=1,...,n, g_jf₁x₁,...,x_m),...,f_nx₁,...,x_m)) = x_j, _j=1,...,m. We prove the following: (a) every partial C _m,n-algebra A is isomorphically embeddable in the algebra G= A; S(A) of C _m,n; (b) for every finitely presented algebra G= A; S in C _m,n, the word problem is decidable; (c) for finitely presented algebras in _{C m}, the occurrence problem is decidable; (d) _{C m,n} has a hereditarily undecidable elementary theory.     

On the <Emphasis Type="Italic">α</Emphasis>-superposition of functions of a <Emphasis Type="Italic">k</Emphasis>-valued logic

We reveal a relation between the operations of α-completion and closure for the systems of functions of a k-valued logic. For k = 3, 4 we construct the α-bases consisting of two binary operations. We prove that the complete system T of functions of a 4-valued logic containing all permutations of the set E ₄ = {0, 1, 2, 3} and the operation of addition modulo 4 is not α-complete, whereas its α-completion [T _α] will be an α-complete system.     

Peculiarities of the transitions to synchronization in coupled systems with amplitude death

The paper presents the results of the study of the sequences of bifurcation leading to the synchronization and amplitude death in a system of two dissipatively coupled self-sustained oscillators with inertial nonlinearity. Two types of synchronizations tongues have been identified. In one of them phase locking regions exist where the synchronization is achieved by the saddle-node bifurcation and regions where the transition to synchronization leads through Neimark-Sacker bifurcation. In the second type of the tongues there are only phase locking regions. It has been shown that for a weak non-identity of the system parameters, the first type tongues merge together. The transition between the synchronization tongues can occur without bifurcations, i.e., transition between the synchronized regimes with different periods of oscillations can occur gradually.
