Preliminary study of the thermally stimulated blue luminescence of ulexite

In this paper, novel results on the blue thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) emission of ulexite (NaCaB₅O₆(OH)₆·5H₂O) have been studied. The four maxima appearing at 60, 110, 200 and 240°C on the TSL glow curves of this borate could be respectively associated to: (i) the first dehydration (NaCaB₅O₆(OH)₆·5H₂O→NaCaB₅O₆(OH)₆·3H₂O), (ii) the creation-annihilation of the three-hydrated phase, (iii) the Na-coordinated chains dehydroxylation and the starting point of the alkali self-diffusion through the lattice and (iv) the amorphisation of the lattice. These results are fairly well correlated with the differential thermal analyses (DTA), in situ thermal observations under environmental scanning electron microscope (TESEM) and thermal X-ray diffraction (TXRD) techniques.     

Heinz Gerrens Revisited: A New Look at the Impact of Reactor Type on Polymer Chain Morphology

The equations for predicting molecular weight distribution, copolymer composition distribution, and copolymer sequence distribution for three polymerization mechanisms (monomer linkage with termination, monomer linkage without termination, and polymer linkage), and three reactor types (batch/plug flow, homogenous continuous stirred tank, and segregated continuous stirred tank) are assembled from various sources and compared and contrasted.     

Miniemulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate with dodecyl mercaptan as cosurfactant

Miniemulsions of methyl methacrylate with sodium lauryl sulfate as the surfactant and dodecyl mercaptan (DDM) as the cosurfactant (or hydrophobe) were prepared and polymerized. The emulsions were of a droplet size range common to miniemulsions and exhibited long-term stability (greater than 3 months). Results indicate that DDM retards Ostwald ripening and allows the production of stable miniemulsions. When these emulsions were initiated, particle formation occurred predominantly by monomer droplet nucleation. The effects of the concentration of surfactant, cosurfactant and initiator were determined. Rates of polymerization, monomer droplet sizes, polymer particle sizes, molecular weights of the polymer, and the effect of initiator concentration on the number of particles vary systematically in ways that indicate predominant droplet nucleation in these systems. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

The commutation relation <Emphasis Type="Italic">xy</Emphasis>=<Emphasis Type="Italic">qyx</Emphasis>+<Emphasis Type="Italic">hf</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">y</Emphasis>) and Newton’s binomial formula

Let x and y be two variables satisfying the commutation relation xy=qyx+hf(y), where f(y) is a polynomial. In this paper, using Young diagrams and generating functions techniques, we study the binomial formula (x+y) ⁿ and we present an identity for x ^m y. The connection to Operator Calculus is discussed and several special cases are treated explicitly.     

On a generalization of duality triads

Some aspects of duality triads introduced recently are discussed. In particular, the general solution for the triad polynomials is given. Furthermore, a generalization of the notion of duality triad is proposed and some simple properties of these generalized duality triads are derived.     

Normal ordering problem and the extensions of the Stirling grammar

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the connection between context-free grammars and normal ordered problem, and then to explore various extensions of the Stirling grammar. We present grammatical characterizations of several well known combinatorial sequences, including the generalized Stirling numbers of the second kind related to the normal ordered problem and the r-Dowling polynomials. Also, possible avenues for future research are described.
