Vapor to liquid multicomponent nucleation is a dynamical process governed by a delicate interplay between condensation and evaporation. Since the population of the vapor phase is dominated by monomers at reasonable supersaturations, the formation of clusters is governed by monomer association and dissociation reactions. Although there is no intrinsic barrier in the interaction potential along the minimum energy path for the association process, the formation of a cluster is impeded by a free energy barrier. Dynamical nucleation theory provides a framework in which equilibrium evaporation rate constants can be calculated and the corresponding condensation rate constants determined from detailed balance. The nucleation rate can then be obtained by solving the kinetic equations. The rate constants governing the multistep kinetics of multicomponent nucleation including sensitivity analysis and the potential influence of contaminants will be presented and discussed.  相似文献

We construct a rigid-body (five-dimensional) potential-energy surface for the water-hydrogen complex using scaled perturbation theory (SPT). An analytic fit of this surface is obtained, and, using this, two minima are found. The global minimum has C2v symmetry, with the hydrogen molecule acting as a proton donor to the oxygen atom on water. A local minimum with Cs symmetry has the hydrogen molecule acting as a proton acceptor to one of the hydrogen atoms on water, where the OH bond and H2 are in a T-shaped configuration. The SPT global minimum is bound by 1097 microEh (Eh approximately 4.359744 x 10(-18) J). Our best estimate of the binding energy, from a complete basis set extrapolation of coupled-cluster calculations, is 1076.1 microEh. The fitted surface is used to calculate the second cross virial coefficient over a wide temperature range (100-3000 K). Three complementary methods are used to quantify quantum statistical mechanical effects that become significant at low temperatures. We compare our results with experimental data, which are available over a smaller temperature range (230-700 K). Generally good agreement is found, but the experimental data are subject to larger uncertainties.  相似文献

Herein, we report on the structure and dynamics of the aqueous Ca2+ system studied by using ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations. Our detailed study revealed the formation of well‐formed hydration shells with characteristics that were significantly different to those of bulk water. To facilitate a robust comparison with state‐of‐the‐art X‐ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) data, we employ a 1st principles MD‐XAFS procedure and directly compare simulated and experimental XAFS spectra. A comparison of the data for the aqueous Ca2+ system with those of the recently reported Zn2+, Fe3+, and Al3+ species showed that many of their structural characteristics correlated well with charge density on the cation. Some very important exceptions were found, which indicated a strong sensitivity of the solvent structure towards the cation′s valence electronic structure. Average dipole moments for the 2nd shell of all cations were suppressed relative to bulk water.  相似文献

Molar extinction coefficients of some carbohydrates viz. l-arabinose (C5H10O5), d-glucose (C6H12O6), d-mannose (C6H12O6), d-galactose (C6H12O6), d(-) fructose (C6H12O6) and maltose (C12H24O12) in aqueous solutions have been determined at 81, 356, 511, 662, 1173 and 1332 keV by gamma ray transmission method in a narrow beam good geometry set-up. These coefficients have been found to depend upon the photon energy following a 4-parameter polynomial. These extinction coefficients for different sugars having the same molecular formula have same values varying within experimental uncertainty. Within concentration ranges studied, Beer-Lambert law is obeyed very well.  相似文献

Variable temperature 2H NMR experiments on the orthorhombic phase of selectively deuterated NH3BH3 spanning the static to fast exchange limits of the borane and amine motions are reported. New values of the electric field gradient (EFG) tensor parameters have been obtained from the static 2H spectra of V(zz) = 1.652 (+/-0.082) x 10(21) V/m(2) and eta = 0.00 +/- 0.05 for the borane hydrogens and V(zz) = 2.883 (+/-0.144) x 10(21) V/m(2) and eta = 0.00 +/- 0.05 for the amine hydrogens. The molecular symmetry inferred from the observation of equal EFG tensors for the three borane hydrogens and likewise for the three amine hydrogens is in sharp contrast with the C(s) symmetry derived from diffraction studies. The origin of the apparent discrepancy has been investigated using molecular dynamics methods in combination with electronic structure calculations of NMR parameters, bond lengths, and bond angles. The computation of parameters from a statistical ensemble rather than from a single set of atomic Cartesian coordinates gives values that are in close quantitative agreement with the 2H NMR electric field gradient tensor measurements and are more consistent with the molecular symmetry revealed by the NMR spectra.  相似文献

We use ab initio electronic structure methods to calculate the many-body decomposition of the binding energies of the OH.(H2O)n (n=2,3) complexes. We employ MP2 and CCSD(T) levels of theory with aug-cc-pVDZ and aug-cc-pVTZ basis sets and analyze the significance of the nonpairwise interactions between OH radical and the surrounding water molecules. We also evaluate the accuracy of our newly developed potential function, the modified Thole-type model, for predicting the many-body terms in these complexes. Our analysis of the many-body contributions to the OH.(H2O)n binding energies clearly shows that they are just as important in the OH interactions with water as they are for interactions in pure water systems.  相似文献

The Gibbs ensemble Monte Carlo simulation technique was used to compare the phase equilibria of the rigid TIP4P water model [Jorgensen et al., J. Chem. Phys. 79, 926 (1983)] utilizing classical and quantum statistical mechanics. The quantum statistical mechanical treatment generally resulted in lower liquid densities and higher vapor densities, narrowing the phase envelope. As a result, the calculated critical temperatures and normal boiling points were lower from the quantum simulations than the classical by 22 and 17 K, respectively, but the critical densities were equal within the estimated uncertainties. When the phase diagram from the quantum statistical mechanical treatment was increased by 22 K, it agreed with the classical results quite well throughout the entire simulated temperature range. A semiclassical treatment, involving a low order expansion in Planck's constant, resulted in good agreement with the path integral results for second virial coefficients, but gave densities and vapor pressures that fluctuated between the values for the classical and quantum statistical mechanics values, with no definite agreement with either.  相似文献

We performed a computational study of H(2) activation and heterolytic dissociation promoted by prototype Lewis acid/base pairs NH(3)/BX(3) (X = H, F, and Cl) to understand the mechanism in frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs). Although the NH(3)/BX(3) pairs form strong dative bonds, electronic structure theories make it possible to explore the potential energy surface away from the dative complex, in regions relevant to H(2) activation in FLPs. A weakly bound precursor complex, H(3)N·H(2)·BX(3), was found in which the H(2) molecule interacts side-on with B and end-on with N. The BX(3) group is pyramidal in the case of X = H, similar to the geometry of BH(5), but planar in the complexes with X = F and Cl. The latter complexes convert to ion pairs, [NH(4)(+)][BHX(3)(-)] with enthalpy changes of 7.3 and -9.4 kcal/mol, respectively. The minimum energy paths between the FLP and the product ion pair of the chloro and fluoro complexes were calculated and analyzed in great detail. At the transition state (TS), the H(2) bond is weakened and the BX(3) moiety has undergone significant pyramidal distortion. As such, the FLP is prepared to accept the incipient proton and hydride ion on the product-side. The interaction energy of the H(2) with the acid/base pair and the different contributions for the precursor and TS complex from an energy decomposition analysis expose the dominant factors affecting the reactivity. We find that structural reorganization of the precursor complex plays a significant role in the activation and that charge-transfer interactions are the dominant stabilizing force in the activated complex. The electric field clearly has a role in polarizing H(2), but its contribution to the overall interaction energy is small compared to that from the overlap of the p(N), σ(H-H), σ*(H-H), and p(B) orbitals at the TS. Our detailed analysis of the interaction of H(2) with the FLP provides insight into the important components that should be taken into account when designing related systems to activate H(2).  相似文献

Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations at 300 K, based on density functional theory, are performed to study the hydration shell geometries, solvent dipole, and first hydrolysis reaction of the uranium(IV) (U(4+)) and uranyl(V) (UO(2)(+)) ions in aqueous solution. The solvent dipole and first hydrolysis reaction of aqueous uranyl(VI) (UO(2)(2+)) are also probed. The first shell of U(4+) is coordinated by 8-9 water ligands, with an average U-O distance of 2.42 ?. The average first shell coordination number and distance are in agreement with experimental estimates of 8-11 and 2.40-2.44 ?, respectively. The simulated EXAFS of U(4+) matches well with recent experimental data. The first shell of UO(2)(+) is coordinated by five water ligands in the equatorial plane, with the average U═O(ax) and U-O distances being 1.85 ? and 2.54 ?, respectively. Overall, the hydration shell structure of UO(2)(+) closely matches that of UO(2)(2+), except for small expansions in the average U═O(ax) and U-O distances. Each ion strongly polarizes their respective first-shell water ligands. The computed acidity constants (pK(a)) of U(4+) and UO(2)(2+) are 0.93 and 4.95, in good agreement with the experimental values of 0.54 and 5.24, respectively. The predicted pK(a) value of UO(2)(+) is 8.5.  相似文献

A sensitivity analysis of bulk water thermodynamics is presented in an effort to understand the relation between qualitative features of molecular potentials and properties that they predict. The analysis is incorporated in molecular dynamics simulations and investigates the sensitivity of the Helmholtz free energy, internal energy, entropy, heat capacity, pressure, thermal pressure coefficient, and static dielectric constant to components of the potential rather than the parameters of a given functional form. The sensitivities of the properties are calculated with respect to the van der Waals repulsive and the attractive parts, plus short- and long-range Coulomb parts of three four site empirical water potentials: TIP4P, Dang-Chang and TTM2R. The polarization sensitivity is calculated for the polarizable Dang-Chang and TTM2R potentials. This new type of analysis allows direct comparisons of the sensitivities for different potentials that use different functional forms. The analysis indicates that all investigated properties are most sensitive to the van der Waals repulsive, the short-range Coulomb and the polarization components of the potentials. When polarization is included in the potentials, the magnitude of the sensitivity of the Helmholtz free energy, internal energy, and entropy with respect to this part of the potential is comparable in magnitude to the other electrostatic components. In addition similarities in trends of observed sensitivities for nonpolarizable and polarizable potentials lead to the conclusion that the complexity of the model is not of critical importance for the calculation of these thermodynamic properties for bulk water. The van der Waals attractive and the long-range Coulomb sensitivities are relatively small for the entropy, heat capacity, thermal pressure coefficient and the static dielectric constant, while small changes in any of the potential contributions will significantly affect the pressure. The analysis suggests a procedure for modification of the potentials to improve predictions of thermodynamic properties and we demonstrate this general approach for modifying potentials for one of the potentials.  相似文献
