Novel homologous series of supramolecular hydrogen bonded liquid crystals have been investigated. Hydrogen bonds are formed between p-n octyloxy benzoic acid and various p-n alkyloxy benzoic acids whose carbon chain length varied from pentyl to dodecyl. These complexes are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, polarizing optical microscopy (POM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Phase diagram is constructed from POM and DSC data. The order of the phase transitions is determined by Navard and Cox ratio (N R). Characteristic phases like nematic, smectic C, and smectic F are identified. A new smectic ordering observed in this series is investigated by constructing phase diagram obtained from two binary mixtures of the present homologs. Inter-digitation of lamellar layers is observed to be one of the reasons for the occurrence of new smectic ordering. Optical tilt angle in smectic C phase is fitted to a power law. The magnitude of exponent of the power law is found to concur with the Mean Field theory predicted value.  相似文献

Four tridentate O, N, O donor Schiff base ligands were prepared by the reaction of substituted benzhydrazide and appropriate salicylaldehyde. The complexes of these ligands were synthesized by refluxing the ligands with ruthenium(II) starting complexes of the formula [RuHCl(CO)(EPh3)2B] in benzene, where E = P or As; B = PPh3 or AsPh3 or pyridine. The newly synthesized complexes were characterized by elemental, spectral (FT‐IR, UV and NMR) and electrochemical data. On the basis of the above studies, an octahedral structure has been proposed for all the complexes. The catalytic efficiency of the complexes in aryl–aryl couplings and oxidation of alcohols was examined and their inhibition activity against the growth of the micro‐organisms was also examined. There are many data clustering techniques available to extract meaningful information from real world data, but the obtained clustering results of the available techniques, running time for the performance of clustering techniques in clustering real world data are highly important. This work is strongly felt that fuzzy clustering technique is suitable one to find meaningful information and appropriate groups into real world datasets. In fuzzy clustering the objective function controls the groups or clusters and computation parts of clustering. Hence researchers in fuzzy clustering algorithm aim is to minimize the objective function that usually has number of computation parts, like calculation of cluster prototypes, degree of membership for objects, computation part for updating and stopping algorithms. This paper introduces some new effective fuzzy objective functions with effective fuzzy parameters that can help to minimize the running time and to obtain strong meaningful information or clusters into the real world datasets. Further this paper tries to introduce new way for predicting membership, centres by minimizing the proposed new fuzzy objective functions. And experimental results of proposed algorithms are given to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed methods.  相似文献

Crack analysis of linear coupled thermoelasticity in two-dimensional, isotropic, non-homogeneous and linear elastic functionally graded materials subjected to thermal shock is performed by using a boundary-domain element method. The material parameters are assumed to be continuous functions of the spatial coordinates. Fundamental solutions of linear coupled thermoelasticity for the corresponding isotropic, homogeneous and linear elastic solids in Laplace-transformed domain are applied in the boundary-domain integral formulation. A collocation method is implemented for the numerical solution. Numerical examples for an exponential gradation of the material parameters are presented and discussed. In this study, complexes belonging to supramolecular hydrogen-bonded liquid crystal homologous series are synthesized and characterized. Hydrogen bond is formed between p-n-alkyloxy benzoic acids (nBAO, where n?=?5–11) and chlorobenzoic acid (ClBAO), respectively. The isolated homologues are characterized by various techniques such as polarizing optical microscopic (POM) studies, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and Fourier transform–infrared spectroscopy. Based on the POM and DSC studies, the phase diagram has been constructed and discussed. A new smectic ordering, labeled as smectic R, has been characterized, which exhibits a ribbon-like texture. This phase is observed in the complexes pertaining to the higher homologous series. Tilt angle in this phase has been experimentally deduced and the results are fitted to the power law which concurs with the mean-field theory predicted value. Optical shuttering action in the homologue has been detected in the nematic phase and the results are also discussed.  相似文献

Supramolecular hydrogen bonded mesogens are formed between p-n-undecyloxy benzoic acid (11BAO) and p-n-alkyl benzoic acids (nBA, where n?=?2–8). The isolated mesogens are characterized by distinct techniques in order to appreciate the optical, thermal, electrical, and dielectric properties. The optical tilt angle measurement is studied for all the members of this homologous series and is found to concur with the mean field theory predicted value. An interesting factor to notice is the observation of optical shuttering action in nematic phase of the entire series which privilege these materials to be used as light modulators. Dielectric measurements were carried out and the dispersion curves were discussed in terms of relaxation frequency and activation energies.  相似文献

Molecular‐level airborne sensing is critical for early prevention of disasters, diseases, and terrorism. Currently, most 2D surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates used for air sensing have only one functional surface and exhibit poor SERS‐active depth. “Aerosolized plasmonic colloidosomes” (APCs) are introduced as airborne plasmonic hotspots for direct in‐air SERS measurements. APCs function as a macroscale 3D and omnidirectional plasmonic cloud that receives laser irradiation and emits signals in all directions. Importantly, it brings about an effective plasmonic hotspot in a length scale of approximately 2.3 cm, which affords 100‐fold higher tolerance to laser misalignment along the z‐axis compared with 2D SERS substrates. APCs exhibit an extraordinary omnidirectional property and demonstrate consistent SERS performance that is independent of the laser and analyte introductory pathway. Furthermore, the first in‐air SERS detection is demonstrated in stand‐off conditions at a distance of 200 cm, highlighting the applicability of 3D omnidirectional plasmonic clouds for remote airborne sensing in threatening or inaccessible areas.  相似文献

The current study was undertaken to validate the performance for the determination of both TBA and beta-trenbolone (beta-TB) residues in porcine muscle at concentrations required to monitor compliance with the maximum residue limit (MRL). The method involves a one phase liquid-liquid extraction, cleanup with low-temperature fat precipitation, separation of the respective compounds by HPLC on a Capcell pak C(18) column, use of a methanol-water isocratic system as an eluent, and measurement by UV absorbance detection at 340 nm. Both compounds were confirmed using LC-MS/MS with electrospray interface (ESI) and a triple quadrupole (QqQ) analyzer. The method was found to be precise and accurate, with a linearity range of 1-10 microg/kg (r(2) >0.973). The intra- and interday precision showed good reproducibility with RSDs < or =13.25%. The LODs were 0.12 and 0.22 microg/kg, and the LOQs were 0.37 and 0.66 microg/kg, for TBA and beta-TB, respectively. The applicability of the method was demonstrated by analyzing real samples collected from major cities in the Republic of Korea. No residues of the selected compounds were detected in any of the samples. The advantages of our method are that it is: selective, sensitive, requires a short time for analysis (13 min), and performs simple sample extraction and clean-up procedure with low-temperature fat precipitation as compared to the previously published methods.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to investigate whether an additional column clean-up procedure can affect the accuracy of an analytical method developed for the determination of imidacloprid residues in Chinese cabbage. Thereafter, the residue levels and the degradation rates of imidacloprid were investigated in experimental Chinese cabbage plots after treatment with two different commercial formulations: emulsifiable concentrate (EC) and wettable powder (WP). The analyte was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UVD) and confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) in the select ion-monitoring mode. The mean recoveries ranged from 75.34 to 98.00% and 96.95 to 100.97%, with relative standard deviations of 0.86-4.14 and 1.22-3.52%, in samples treated with and without additional column clean-up procedures, respectively. The minimum detectable amount of imidacloprid was 4 ng, while the limits of detection and quantitation were 0.2 and 0.5 ppm, respectively. The degradation of pesticide was monitored throughout a period of 13 days under greenhouse conditions. Although the behaviors of the EC and WP formulations appear to be similar, the absolute residue levels obtained with EC and WP treatments differed slightly. When imidacloprid formulations were applied (as foliar treatments) according to the recommended rate, the final residues (13 days post-treatment) in Chinese cabbage were much lower than the maximum residue limit (MRL = 3.5 ppm) established by the Korean Food and Drug Administration. Taken together, our study suggests that the analysis of imidacloprid can be performed without an additional column clean-up procedure, and the decline curve and the residue levels in Chinese cabbage could change if the same active ingredient is used in different formulations.  相似文献
