Direct mono-insertion of isocyanides into terminal alkynes catalyzed by rare-earth silylamides

Rare-earth silylamide complexes, Ln[N(SiMe3)2]3 (Ln = Y, La, Sm, Yb), effectively catalyzed the coupling reaction of isocyanides with both aliphatic and aromatic terminal alkynes under mild conditions.     

Recent developments of optical fiber sensors for automotive use

Optical fiber sensing technologies are expected to apply for many future electronic control systems in automobiles, because of their inherent outstanding features, such as high noise immunity, high heat resistance, and flexible light propagation paths which can be applied to measure the movements and directions of the mobiles. In this paper, two typical applications of fiber sensing technologies in automobiles are described in detail. The combustion flame detector is one of the typical applications of a fiber spectroscopic technology which utilizes the feature of high noise and heat resistibility and remote sensibility. Measurement of engine combustion conditions, such as the detonation, the combustion initiation, and the air-fuel ratio, have been demonstrated in an experimental fiber sensing method. Fiber interferometers, such as a fiber gyroscope, have great possibilities in future mobile applications because they are applicable to many kinds of measurements for movements and physical variables. An optical fiber gyroscope utilizing the single polarized optical fiber and other optical devices has been developed. Quite an accurate measurement of vehicle position was displayed on a prototype navigation system which installed the fiber gyroscope as a rotational speed sensor.     

Simultaneous genotyping of indels and SNPs by mass spectroscopy

Nucleotide insertion/deletion polymorphisms (indels) in ApoE gene were precisely genotyped using artificial ribonucleases and MALDI-TOF MS. The RNA fragments for MS analysis were prepared by treating RNA specimens with our artificial ribonucleases, which consist of LuCl(3) (molecular scissors) and oligonucleotides bearing two acridine groups (RNA-activator for site-selective scission). RNA scission by Lu(III) ion always occurred at the phosphodiester linkages in front of the two acridines, even when the RNA specimens involved consecutive cytidine sequences of different lengths. Thus, even complicated mixtures of these indel specimens were completely genotyped by using only one acridine-bearing oligonucleotide and by subjecting the reaction mixture to single MS measurement. Moreover, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the consecutive sequences could be genotyped simultaneously with the indels.     

Models for capacitated lot-sizing problem with backlogging,setup carryover and crossover

Setup operations are significant in some production environments. It is mandatory that their production plans consider some features, as setup state conservation across periods through setup carryover and crossover. The modelling of setup crossover allows more flexible decisions and is essential for problems with long setup times. This paper proposes two models for the capacitated lot-sizing problem with backlogging and setup carryover and crossover. The first is in line with other models from the literature, whereas the second considers a disaggregated setup variable, which tracks the starting and completion times of the setup operation. This innovative approach permits a more compact formulation. Computational results show that the proposed models have outperformed other state-of-the-art formulation.     

Stability and convergence of the spectral Lagrange-Galerkin method for mixed periodic/non-periodic convection-dominated diffusion problems

We present a convergence analysis of the spectral Lagrange-Galerkinmethod for mixed periodic/non-periodic convection-diffusionproblems. The scheme is unconditionally stable, independentof the diffusion coefficient, even in the case when numericalquadrature is used. The theoretical predictions are illustratedby a series of numerical experiments. For the periodic case,our results present a significant improvement on those givenby Süli & Ware (1991) SIAM J. Numer.Anal.28, 423-445).
