Despite significant advances in image‐guided therapy, surgeons are still too often left with uncertainty when deciding to remove tissue. This binary decision between removing and leaving tissue during surgery implies that the surgeon should be able to distinguish tumor from healthy tissue. In neurosurgery, current image‐guidance approaches such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) combined with neuronavigation offer a map as to where the tumor should be, but the only definitive method to characterize the tissue at stake is histopathology. Although extremely valuable information is derived from this gold standard approach, it is limited to very few samples during surgery and is not practically used for the delineation of tumor margins. The development and implementation of faster, comprehensive, and complementary approaches for tissue characterization are required to support surgical decision‐making – an incremental and iterative process with tumor removed in multiple and often minute biopsies. The development of atmospheric pressure ionization sources makes it possible to analyze tissue specimens with little to no sample preparation. Here, we highlight the value of desorption electrospray ionization as one of many available approaches for the analysis of surgical tissue. Twelve surgical samples resected from a patient during surgery were analyzed and diagnosed as glioblastoma tumor or necrotic tissue by standard histopathology, and mass spectrometry results were further correlated to histopathology for critical validation of the approach. The use of a robust statistical approach reiterated results from the qualitative detection of potential biomarkers of these tissue types. The correlation of the mass spectrometry and histopathology results to MRI brings significant insight into tumor presentation that could not only serve to guide tumor resection, but that is also worthy of more detailed studies on our understanding of tumor presentation on MRI. Video is commonly used in teacher preparation programs. Teacher educators use video for various purposes. In this study, we describe the Learning to Learn from Mathematics Teaching project. In this project, video is used to develop pre-service teachers’ (PSTs) orientations, knowledge and skills for analyzing and reflecting on mathematics teaching in ways that generate knowledge for improvement. We discuss the ways we have used video in a course aimed at developing elementary PSTs’ abilities to learn from teaching. In addition, we report on a study that investigated PSTs’ changes in lesson analysis abilities as a result of participating in the course.  相似文献

The dynamics of a titanium plasma species, induced in air by coupling a fs-ablating laser pulse with an orthogonal ns-reheating laser source placed at the fixed distance of 1.0 mm from the target surface, has been followed by temporally resolved emission spectroscopy. The temporal evolutions of plasma features such as excitation temperatures and electron densities have been evaluated by using two different laser energies of the first fs-ablating laser pulse (0.8 mJ and 3.0 mJ). Optimum inter-pulse delay times, experimentally determined, of 250 μs and 500 μs were used for the fs laser energy of 3.0 mJ and 0.8 mJ, respectively. By experimental inspections of the main plasma species electronic transitions so obtained, a strong enhancement was evaluated up to one and two orders of magnitude for Ti(I) and Ti(II), respectively. Independently from the fs laser energy employed, the plasma features showed the same temporal behaviour implying that the ns-reheating characteristics of this process belong to the reheating mechanism itself. The experimental results have been discussed and the excited species evolutions and elementary processes involved, as well as, the local thermodynamic equilibrium departures, have been outlined.  相似文献

Pulsed laser deposition performed by a laser with a pulse duration of 250 fs has been used to deposit films from a Cr3C2 target. Due to the different processes involved in the laser ablation when it is performed by an ultra-short pulse source instead of a conventional short pulse one, it has been possible to obtain in vacuum films containing only one type of carbide, Cr3C2, as shown by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. On the other hand, Cr3C2 is not the only component of the films, since a large amount of amorphous carbon is also present. The films, deposited at room temperature, are amorphous and seem to be formed by the coalescence of a large number of particles with nanometric size. The film composition can be explained in terms of thermal evaporation from particles ejected from the target.  相似文献

Interfacial bonding geometry and electronic structures of In(2)O on InAs and In(0.53)Ga(0.47)As(001)-(4×2) have been investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy/scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STM/STS). STM images show that the In(2)O forms an ordered monolayer on both InAs and InGaAs surfaces. In(2)O deposition on the InAs(001)-(4×2) surface does not displace any surface atoms during both room temperature deposition and postdeposition annealing. Oxygen atoms from In(2)O molecules bond with trough In/Ga atoms on the surface to form a new layer of O-In/Ga bonds, which restore many of the strained trough In/Ga atoms into more bulklike tetrahedral sp(3) bonding environments. STS reveals that for both p-type and n-type clean In(0.53)Ga(0.47)As(001)-(4×2) surfaces, the Fermi level resides near the valence band maximum (VBM); however, after In(2)O deposition and postdeposition annealings, the Fermi level position is close to the VBM for p-type samples and close to the conduction band minimum for n-type samples. This result indicates that In(2)O bonding eliminates surface states within the bandgap and forms an unpinned interface when bonding with In(0.53)Ga(0.47)As/InP(001)-(4×2). Density function theory is used to confirm the experimental finding.  相似文献
