Ab initio and DFT studies on tautomerism of indazole in gaseous and aqueous phases

Electronic structure of optimized Ge₅, Ge₁₇, Ge₅–O and Ge₅ embedded in SiO₂ nanoparticles have been studied by density functional theory to find out the effect of cluster size and Ge–O bond(s) on the optical energy gap between LUMO and HOMO. It was found that the optical energy gap depends on both cluster size and the number of Ge–O bonds nonlinearly. The optical energy gap was found to be in visible light range when the Ge₅ nanoparticle has been embedded in SiO₂ matrix.     

Amino Acid based cationic surfactants in aqueous solution: physicochemical study and application of supramolecular chirality in ketone reduction

The present study provides a molecular understanding of the origin of the chirality in aqueous micelles and its correlation with the proficiency of stereoselective ketone reduction. The effects of varied headgroup architecture on the surface-active properties as well as on other microstructural parameters were studied and correlated to the structural differences of these naturally occurring amino acid containing surfactants (1-4). Micropolarity sensed by pyrene showed that the micelles prepared using 1-4 are mostly hydrated; particularly large headgroup size surfactant produces more polar environment. A theoretical study was done to quantify the varied spatial dissymmetry for all four surfactants. Asymmetric reduction of prochiral ketones was carried out at the aqueous micellar interface of these chiral amphiphiles by exploiting the supramolecular chirality as evidenced from a circular dichroism study. The enantioselectivity of the reduction process is rationally improved through increase in spatial dissymmetry and steric constraint imposed at the micellar interface by the polar head of surfactants.     

Polyhydroxamic Acid Sorbents for Uranium Recovery

Crosslinked polyacrylamides were synthesized by solution polymerization using benzoyl peroxide as the radical initiator. The water–insoluble polymer obtained was functionalized by reacting with hydroxylamine to convert the amide group into hydroxamic acid group. The resultant functionalized polymer was characterized in terms of moisture uptake, elemental composition, IR spectra, thermal stability, exchange capacity and heavy metal sorption. The sorbent, obtained in particulate form, was investigated for its sorption properties with respect to uranium from uranyl nitrate solutions under unstirred batch conditions. This paper will concentrate on preparation, characterization and performance evaluation with respect to uranium sorption as a function of concentration, time, solution pH and temperature. The potential of this sorbent for uranium and other heavy metal ion recovery from sea water is ascertained.     

Pyrene-Hydrazone-π···Hole Coupled Turn-on Fluorescent and Naked- Eye Colorimetric Sensor for Cyanide: Role of Homogeneous π-Hole Dispersion in Anion Selectivity

A pyrene based probe associated with π···hole – hydrazone as one of the recognizing elements is synthesized and its turn in to a selective colorimetric and turn-on fluorescent sensor, (L³) for cyanide anion. This chemo sensor show high selectivity towards cyanide anion through photo electron transfer (PET) mechanism. The binding strength and sensitivity of the chemo sensor L³ towards cyanide are found to be 2.0 X 10⁴, and 4.44 x 10^-4 respectively. We have compared this high selectivity of the receptor towards cyanide, with our previously reported receptors L¹ and L². The detailed UV-Vis, Emission, ¹H-NMR, IR spectroscopic and Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) studies reveals that the homogeneous π···hole dispersion in the aromatic ring governing the selectivity of the receptor towards cyanide anion. Such a positive π···hole homogeneous dispersion is missing in the case of sensor L², instead we have polarized π···hole dispersion towards 2^nd and 4^th position of di-nitrophenyl chromophoric unit in L².

Thermal Behavior of Bismaleimide-Amine/Vinyl Ester Resin-Styrene Blends

Abstract

Curing of 4,4′-bismaleimido-diphenyl methane-4,4′ -diaminodi-phenyl methane (1:0.3 molar ratios) (BM-A) was carried out in the presence of vinyl ester-styrene resin. The BM-A could be cured at lower temperatures. The char yields of the cured resins depended on the percentage of bismaleimide-amine in the blend.     

Green synthesis of naphtho[2,3-f]quinolin-13-one and naphtho[2,3-a]acridin-1(2H)-one derivatives catalyzed by heteropoly acid supported montmorillonite K-10 clay

Herein, synthesis of a series of naphtho[2,3-f]quinolin-13-one and naphtho[2,3-a]acridin-1(2H)-one derivatives directly by one-pot multi-component reaction of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds (1,3-indanedione/1,3-cyclohexanedione), 2-aminoantharacene/2-naphthylamine and various substituted aldehydes under solvent-free conditions using heteropoly-11-molybdo-1-vanadophosphoric acid supported on montmorillonite K-10 clay catalyst (10% PVMoK-10) is reported. The successful formation of naphtho[2,3-f]quinolin-13-one and naphtho[2,3-a]acridin-1(2H)-one derivatives was confirmed by various spectroscopic techniques. This study offers a green approach for the synthesis of novel quinolinone derivatives.     

Poly-hydroxamic acid (PHA) matrix for gadolinium pre-concentration and removal

A novel hydrophilic, three dimensionally cross-linked, aliphatic backbones with pendant hydroxamic acid (HA) group as functional moiety has been synthesized and utilized targeting removal of gadolinium [Gd(III)] from laboratory waste aqueous effluent. To understand the nature of sorption, gadolinium solution of various concentrations viz., 20, 10, 5.0, 1.0, 0.5 and 0.1 ppm has been contacted with a dose rate of 1 g/100 mL for 2 h. In this study, ICP-AES has been used for determination of concentration (ppm) of gadolinium in feed, filtrate and elute. EDXRF study also ensures the presence of gadolinium in the respective medium. Loaded gadolinium matrix was eluted with 1 N HCl for determining the elution factor (0.98).     

Keggin-type heteropoly-11-molybdo-1-vanadophosphoric acid supported montmorillonite K-10 clay-catalysed one-pot multi-component synthesis of chromeno[2,3-b]indoles

One-pot three-component synthesis of twelve different chromeno[2,3-b]indole derivatives were achieved by the condensation of β-naphthol, oxindole and various substituted aldehydes. Two more chromeno[2,3-b]indole derivatives were also synthesized through one-pot two-component condensation of salicylaldehyde with oxindole/chlorooxindole. Both the condensations were achieved by using Keggin-type heteropoly-11-molybdo-1-vanadophosphoric acid, H₄[PVMo₁₁O₄₀] supported on montmorillonite K-10 clay for about 10% as catalyst under environmentally benign solvent-free reaction condition. Shorter reaction time, excellent yield of product, sustainability of catalytic material and simple workup procedure under green experimental conditions are the advantages of this protocol.
