We have prepared new polyesters containing quadratic, nonlinear optical (NLO) active chromophores covalently incorporated into the main chain. In these polymers, the sequence of the chromophore units along the main chain is rigorously head to tail. All the polyesters are processable, both in the melt and in solution. For one polyester, a full second‐order NLO characterization has been performed. An out‐of‐resonance d33 coefficient of 21 pm/V at 1368 nm has been measured. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A general feature of temperature-induced reversible denaturation of small globular proteins is its all-or-none character. This strong cooperativity leads to think that protein molecules, possessing only two accessible thermodynamic states, the native and the denatured one, resemble ‘crystal molecules’ that melt at raising temperature. An analysis, grounded on mean field theory, allows to conclude that the two-state transition is a first-order phase transition. The implication of this conclusion are briefly discussed.  相似文献

[graphs: see text] QM GIAO calculations of 13C and 1H chemical shift values of the ArCH2Ar group have been performed, using the hybrid DFT functional MPW1PW91 and the 6-31G(d,p) basis set, on some representative calixarenes and on a series of simplified calixarene models allowing derivation of chemical shift surfaces versus phi and chi dihedral angles. A good reproduction of experimental data was obtained. The applicability of chemical shift surfaces in the study of calixarene conformational features is illustrated.  相似文献

Experiments by Gittings, Bandyopadhyay and Durian (Europhys. Lett. 65, 414 (2004)) demonstrate that light possesses a higher probability to propagate in the liquid phase of a foam due to total reflection. The authors term this observation photon channelling which we investigate in this article theoretically. We first derive a central relation in the work of Gitting et al. without any free parameters. It links the photon's path-length fraction f in the liquid phase to the liquid fraction ɛ. We then construct two-dimensional Voronoi foams, replace the cell edges by channels to represent the liquid films and simulate photon paths according to the laws of ray optics using transmission and reflection coefficients from Fresnel's formulas. In an exact honeycomb foam, the photons show superdiffusive behavior. It becomes diffusive as soon as disorder is introduced into the foams. The dependence of the diffusion constant on channel width and refractive index is explained by a one-dimensional random-walk model. It contains a photon channelling state that is crucial for the understanding of the numerical results. At the end, we shortly comment on the observation that photon channelling only occurs in a finite range of ɛ.  相似文献

A novel steroidal glycoside has been isolated from the starfish Protoreaster nodosus. The structure includes a 3β,5α,6β,8β,15α,24ξ-hexahydroxysteroidal moiety and a sugar moiety [2-0-methyl-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-L-arabinofuranosyl] which is glycosidically attached at C-24 of the aglycone.  相似文献

The detection of gravitational waves is a long-awaited event in modern physics and, to achieve this challenging goal, detectors with high sensitivity are being used or are under development. In order to extract gravitational signals emitted by coalescing binary systems of compact objects (neutron stars and/or black holes), from noisy data obtained by interferometric detectors, the matched filter technique is generally used. Its computational kernel is a box-constrained global optimization problem with many local solutions and a highly nonlinear and expensive objective function, whose derivatives are not available. To tackle this problem, we designed a real-coded genetic algorithm that exploits characteristic features of the problem itself; special attention was devoted to the choice of the initial population and of the recombination operator. Computational experiments showed that our algorithm is able to compute a reasonably accurate solution of the optimization problem, requiring a much smaller number of function evaluations than the grid search, which is generally used to solve this problem. Furthermore, the genetic algorithm largely outperforms other global optimization algorithms on significant instances of the problem.  相似文献
