Natural products are being targeted as alternative anticancer agents due to their non-toxic and safe nature. The present study was conducted to explore the in vitro anticancer potential of Justicia adhatoda (J. adhatoda) leaf extract. The methanolic leaf extract was prepared, and the phytochemicals and antioxidant potential were determined by LCMS analysis and DPPH radical scavenging assay, respectively. A docking study performed with five major alkaloidal phytoconstituents showed that they had a good binding affinity towards the active site of NF-κB. Cell viability assay was carried out in five different cell lines, and the extract exhibited the highest cytotoxicity in MCF-7, a breast cancer cell line. Extract-treated cells showed a significant increase in nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species production. Cell cycle analysis showed an arrest in cell growth at the Sub-G0 phase. The extract successfully inhibited cell migration and colony formation and altered mitochondrial membrane potential. The activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione were also found to decrease in a dose-dependent manner. The percentage of apoptotic cells was found to increase in a dose-dependent manner in MCF-7 cells. The expressions of caspase-3, Bax, and cleaved-PARP were increased in extract-treated cells. An increase in the expression of NF-κB was found in the cytoplasm in extract-treated cells. J. adhatoda leaf extract showed a potential anticancer effect in MCF-7 cells.  相似文献

We investigate the external hydrostatic pressure effect on the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of new layered superconductors Bi4O4S3 and NdO0.5F0.5BiS2. Though the Tc is found to have a moderate decrease from 4.8 K to 4.3 K (dTconset/dP = –0.28 K/GPa) for Bi4O4S3 superconductor, the same increases from 4.6 K to 5 K (dTconset/dP = 0.44 K/GPa) up to 1.31 GPa followed by a sudden decrease from 5 K to 4.7 K up to 1.75 GPa for NdO0.5F0.5BiS2 superconductor. The variation of Tc in these systems may be correlated to an increase or decrease of the charge carriers in the density of states under externally applied pressure. We report synthesis, structural and magnetic (DC and AC) properties of Boron substituted MgCNi3 superconductor. A series of polycrystalline bulk samples Mg1.2C1.6?xBxNi3 (x=0.0, 0.08 and 0.16) is synthesized through standard solid-state reaction route, which are found to crystallize in cubic perovskite structure with space group Pm3m. Rietveld analysis of observed XRD data show that lattice parameters expand from a=3.8106 (4) Å for pure, to 3.8164 (2) Å and 3.8173 (5) Å for 5% and 10% Boron substituted samples respectively. DC magnetization exhibited superconducting transition (Tc) at around 7.3 K for pure sample, and the same decreases slightly with Boron substitution. The lower critical field (Hc1) at 2 K is around 150 Oe for pure sample, which increases slightly with Boron substitution. For pure sample the upper critical field (Hc2) being determined from AC susceptibility measurements is 11.6 kOe and 91.70 kOe with 50% and 90% diamagnetism criteria respectively, which decreases to 5.57 kOe and 42.5 kOe respectively for 10% Boron substituted sample. 10% Boron substitution at Carbon site has decreased both the Hc2 and Tc. On the other hand lower critical field (Hc1) at 2 K is slightly increased from around 150 Oe for pure sample, to 200 Oe for 10% Boron substituted sample. Seemingly, the Carbon site Boron substitution induced disorder though has increased slightly the Hc1 but with simultaneous decrease in superconducting transition temperature (Tc) and upper critical field (Hc2). The high relative proportion of Ni in studied MgCNi3 suggests that magnetic interactions are important and non-oxide perovskite structure make it interesting.  相似文献

Accurate measurement of natural and anthropogenic radionuclide concentrations is of critical importance to end users in the nuclear sector to ensure correct classification prior to storage, recycling, reprocessing or disposal. Uncertainties in the characterisation of solid matrices and materials could lead to safety, quality and financial implications. Robust sample preparation methods are vital, in particular effective sample digestion, as under-estimated chemical yield recovery results in a corresponding under-estimation of activity levels. Borate fusion has been proven to effectively digest a range of complex sample matrices in the geosciences but is not used routinely elsewhere. In this study, we describe an automated procedure for borate fusion of multiple matrices encountered in nuclear decommissioning, containing diverse radionuclides over a range of activity concentrations. The impact of digestion flux, sample mass and sample to flux ratios are described, as well as the subsequent separation and measurement techniques. The results contribute to accurate and precise measurement of radionuclides in various matrices, as well as to characterisation of reference materials, providing greater confidence in nuclear industry programmes worldwide.

In this work the authors have grown good quality single crystals of zinc thiourea sulphate, bis thiourea cadmium acetate, bis zinc thiourea acetate and bis thiourea zinc chloride were grown from slow evaporation solution growth method at ambient temperature and studied their mechanical properties. The crystal system and lattice parameters were confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Vickers microhardness of the grown crystals was investigated by using Leitz-Wetzlar (Miniload 2) hardness tester up to an applied load of 120 g. It was observed that, upto 40 g applied load the hardness of the grown crystals increases with increasing the load and thereafter it is practically independent of the indentation load. Meyer's law and Hays–Kendall's law fail to explain the observed load variations. But the variation could be satisfactorily explained by PSR model proposed by Li and Bradt. Classification of cracks and their transition from Palmqvist to median types is explained. The average value of fracture toughness, brittleness index, Young's modulus and yield strength were calculated using expressions for Palmqvist and median types of cracks. Anisotropic nature of the grown crystals was studied using Knoop indentation technique.  相似文献
