Results from Super-Kamiokande and K2K

Results from Super-Kamiokande-I’s entire 1496 live days of solar neutrino data are presented, including the absolute flux, energy spectrum, zenith angle (day/night) and seasonal variation. The possibility of MSW and vacuum oscillations is discussed in light of these results. Results from the first 1289 days of Super-K-I’s atmospheric neutrino analysis are also presented, including the evidence for ν_μ →ν _τ oscillations, against ν_μ → ν_sterile oscillations, and the current limits on proton decay. Finally, results based on 56 × 10¹⁹ protons on target are given for the K2K long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment.     

A family of oxorhenium(v) complexes incorporating chelated monoanionic ONN reduced Schiff base and dianionic ONNO tetradentate ligands: synthesis, spectroscopic and electrochemical studies

The green colored complexes of the type Re(V)O(L(SB))Cl(2), 1, have been synthesised by reacting NBu(4)[ReOCl(4)] with HL(SB) in dry ethanol. Here, L(SB)(-) are the deprotonated forms of N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2-picolylamine (HL(SB)(1)); N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N',N'-dimethylethylenediamine (HL(SB)(2)) and N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N',N'-diethylethylenediamine (HL(SB)(3)). Similarly, NBu(4)[ReOCl(4)] reacted with N,N-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2-picolylamine (H(2)L(1)); N,N-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N',N'-dimethylethylenediamine (H(2)L(2)); N,N-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N',N'-diethylethylenediamine (H(2)L(3)); [N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N-(2-pyridylmethyl)]-2-aminoethanol (H(2)L(4)); [N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N-(2-pyridylmethyl)]-2-methyl-2-amino-1-propanol (H(2)L(5)); N,N-bis(1-hydroxyethyl)-2-picolylamine (H(2)L(6)), to give the monochloro complexes Re(V)O(L)Cl, 2. The X-ray structures of the complexes are reported. The molecular structures observed in the solid state are preserved in solution ((1)H NMR). In acetonitrile solution the Re(V)O(L)Cl, 2, display a one-electron couple, Re(VI)O(L)Cl(+)-Re(V)O(L)Cl, near 1.0 V vs SCE. The electrogenerated hexavalent complexes [Re(VI)O(L)Cl]ClO(4), 3, are paramagnetic and display sextet EPR spectra in solution at room temperature (A(av) approximately 417 (G), g approximately 1.914).     

Molecular structural investigations of quinoxaline derivatives through 3D-QSAR,molecular docking,ADME prediction and pharmacophore modeling studies for the search of novel antimalarial agent

In the present article, a dataset of 63 quinoxaline derivatives were taken for antimalarial activity and pharmacophore were developed. Atom based method was used to develop a three dimensional quantitative structure activity relationship (3D-QSAR) model. On comparison of all statistical parameters, model AHRRR23 was found to be the most effective and predictive QSAR model as it satisfied all statistical parameters of a good model. The model AHRRR23 showed an adequate R² value for the training set 0.9446, good predictive power with Q² of 0.6409, good F- value, low SD 0.1218 value and outstanding Pearson-R values and low RMSE 0.2779 values of the model. The docking studies also gives very good results with good RMSD values. 3D QSAR, docking and ADME studies exhibits that the developed model could be employed as a potential lead for further study as antimalarial drug.

Synthesis and structural characterisation of new Re(III) complexes using aldimines of α-amino acids as coligands

Complexes of the general formula [Re^III(L)Cl(PPh₃)₂] have been synthesised by reacting H₂L and [ReOCl₃(PPh₃)₂] in ethanol. Here H₂L represents imines of α-amino acids (glycine, l-alanine, l-valine, l-phenylalanine) derived from salicylaldehyde and naphthaldehyde. The crystal structure of one complex has been determined. The complexes are mononuclear, paramagnetic and display paramagnetic ¹H NMR in CDCl₃ solution. Their spectral and redox properties are scrutinised.

Structure-activity relationships among synthesized compounds were also established.     

Preparation, structural analysis and dielectric properties of Bi x La1−x FeO3 perovskite

Rare earth element substituted bismuth ferrites (BiFeO₃) are of enormous importance as magnetoelectric materials. The polycrystalline samples of Bi _x La_1−x FeO₃ (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) were prepared by solid-state reaction using standard ceramic method. The single-phase formation of these compounds was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. The samples with x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 are found to be orthorhombic while the sample with x=0.8 is triclinic. The dielectric constant (ε′) and dissipation factor (tan δ) were measured in the frequency range 100 Hz to 1 MHz at room temperature and as a function of temperature at certain fixed frequencies (1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz, 1 MHz). All the samples showed dielectric dispersion. The dielectric constant with temperature shows a broad peak; the peak temperature shifts with frequency which reflects the relaxor-type behavior. The peak above 600 K in the measured temperature range corresponds to antiferromagnetic ordering temperature (Néel temperature). The broadness of the peak changes with composition. The ac conductivity as well as ε′ are found to be maximum for the sample x=0.2 at room temperature.     

Magnetoelectric effect in cobalt ferrite-barium titanate composites and their electrical properties

CoFe₂O₄-BaTiO₃ composites were prepared using conventional ceramic double sintering process with various compositions. Presence of two phases in the composites was confirmed using X-ray diffraction. The dc resistivity and thermoemf as a function of temperature in the temperature range 300 K to 600 K were measured. Variation of dielectric constant (ɛ′) with frequency in the range 100 Hz to 1 MHz and also with temperature at a fixed frequency of 1 kHz was studied. The ac conductivity was derived from dielectric constant (ɛ′) and loss tangent (tan δ). The nature of conduction is discussed on the basis of small polaron hopping model. The static value of magnetoelectric conversion factor has been studied as a function of magnetic field.
