Chemical transformations of Fe(III), Al(III), and Co(II) ions under cohydrolysis in coolants of nuclear power installations

The effect of dosing with aluminum salts of the water coolants of primary circuits at nuclear power installations on the radiation situation at their maintenance area via decreasing the 60Co content in the deposited activated corrosion products was examined. Potentiometric titration, gel chromatographic, and atomic absorption spectrometric techniques were employed for identifying the elemental composition and molecular-weight distribution of the hydrolytic polycondensation products yielded by cohydrolysis of the components of binary, Fe(III) + Co(II) and Fe(III) + Al(III), and ternary, Fe(III) + Al(III) + Co(II), mixed solutions (systems).     

Numerical simulation for a two-phase porous medium flow problem with rate independent hysteresis

The paper is devoted to the numerical simulation of a multiphase flow in porous medium with a hysteretic relation between the capillary pressures and the saturations of the phases. The flow model we use is based on Darcy's law. The hysteretic relation between the capillary pressures and the saturations is described by a play-type hysteresis operator. We propose a numerical algorithm for treating the arising system of equations, discuss finite element schemes and present simulation results for the case of two phases.     

Change in Volume Properties of and Complex Formation in the System Hg(NO3)2-KX-H2O (X- = Cl-, Br-, I-)

The chemical nature of the anions in step complex formation in Hg(NO₃)₂-KX-H₂O systems (X^- = Cl^-, Br^-, I^-) manifests itself in different trends in variation of the molar volumes of the solutions.     

The general and basic boundary value problems of plane steady jet flows and the corresponding nonlinear equations

The general boundary value problem, including known plane steady jet flows of an ideal incompressible fluid, is formulated. The simplest problem retaining all the specific features of the general problem, known as the basic problem, is separated from the general problem. The solution of the basic problem is reduced to solving a non-linear integro-differential equation and also to solving nonlinear integral equations. Examples of flows whose determination is reduced to' solving the basic problem are cited.

Material Analysis of Steel Corrosion Products in Water Coolants of Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants

The poor informativity of conventional elemental analysis in the industrial control of equipment corrosion at thermal and nuclear power plants was discussed. A set of methods was proposed for the material analysis of steel corrosion products. The set includes spectrophotometry for determining the chemical composition of hydroxo complexes in aqueous solutions and various versions of Mossbauer spectroscopy for identifying and determining corrosion products in the solid phase of suspensions, loose deposits, and corrosion films on steel surfaces.
