Polygonization in high-purity rolled (001)[110] tungsten single crystals

Electron microscopy is used to study changes in the dislocation structure of high-purity rolled (001)[110] tungsten single crystals during short-term high-temperature annealings. The effects of the annealing temperature and time on the formation of low-angle boundaries are investigated. Local defects, which are similar to those detected earlier upon annealing in the structure of molybdenum single-crystal ribbons, are found to form and dissociate upon annealing. These defects are concluded to have a dislocation nature.     

Magnetooptical effects in bismuth-containing ferrite-garnet films

We present results of magnetooptical investigations of bismuth-containing ferrite-garnet films with the easy axis of magnetization parallel to the specimen surface. Measurements were conducted for incident light with energies in the range 1.5–3.2 eV for transverse [equatorial Kerr effect (EKE)] and for longitudinal [meridional intensity effect (MIE)] magnetizations of thin-layer specimens. It is shown that the EKE differs from zero when the films are opaque, and it is established that the EKE peak in the region 2.8 eV increases with increasing bismuth concentration. For longitudinal magnetization, conditions for observing magnetooptical interference were realized. Heterogeneous-catalytic fischer reaction

The catalytic synthesis of 7-azaindole and its 2-methyl derivative has been accomplished for the first time by cyclization of acetaldehyde and acetone 2-pyridylhydrazones in the presence of -Al₂O₃ and fluorinated aluminum oxide. The temperature dependence of the yields of reaction products — azaindoles and 2-aminopyridine — was studied. The cyclization of acetaldehyde 2-pyridylhydrazone proceeds under more severe conditions. The maximum yield of 7-azaindole is 15% at 450° on fluorinated aluminum oxide. The yield of 2-methyl-7-azaindole reaches 50% at 315°. Softening processes in single-crystal tungsten ribbons

Recovery processes in rolling-deformed (001)[110] tungsten single crystals having various degrees of purity are investigated. It is shown that the dislocation structure formed in the plastic deformation of tungsten single crystals is transformed in subsequent high-temperature anneals to a system of dislocation subboundaries; only polygonization, which preserves the single-crystal structure, takes place in samples heated to a temperature close to the melting point. The formation of subboundaries proceeds in two stages with subsequent transformation of the unstable structure to a configuration having an energy minimum. The decisive factor affecting the polygonization rate is the stacking fault energy; the presence of impurities also has a significant influence. Fiz. Tverd. Experimental and theoretical study of the absolute intensities of the IR bands of cyclopentadiene

The system of electrooptical parameters which characterizes the polarization properties of the bonds of the cyclopentadiene molecule is calculated. The problem of the relative effectiveness of fischer reaction catalysts

A study is made of the effectiveness of Fischer catalysts (zinc chloride, cuprous chloride, boron trifluoride, polyphosphoric, hydrochloric, sulfosalicylic, and p-toluenesulfonic acid) for the cyclization of cyclohexanone pyridyl-2-hydrazone and 6-methylpyridyl-2-hydrazone. The great effectiveness of mineral and sulfonic acids as compared with Lewis acids is shown. The possibility is shown of changing the course of the process by introducing an electron-donating substituent into the pyridine ring. 1-Acetyl and 1-benzyl derivatives of α-carboline are synthesized.
