Analogues of Riemann tensors for the odd metric on supermanifolds

Structure functions constitute the complete set of obstructions to integrability of a G-structure on a manifold. For a Riemannian manifold the structure function is the Riemann tensor. In this work, we compute structure functions for the odd analogue of the metric on supermanifolds and for several related structures. Structure functions take values in Spencer cohomology groups, which we describe by means of the representation theory of Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras.     

Kinetics of the demethylation of toluene in presence of excess of water over nickel catalysts

Summary With a fifty-fold excess of water in the temperature range 320–360°, there are at least two temperature ranges close to 320° and to 350° in which the demethylation of toluene with the participation of water considerably predominates over other possible transformations of toluene.

Use of ediap mass spectrometry for determining composition of products obtained in periodate oxidation of sucrose

The possibility has been demonstrated of using EDIAP mass spectrometry for the express determination of the composition of the products obtained in the periodate oxidation of sucrose and its subsequent reduction with NaBH₄. It has been shown that the method permits the amount of oxidized glycol and triol groupings to be determined and can therefore be used successfully to establish the structure of carbohydrates. The method also permits the recording directly in the reaction mixture of the presence of the equilibrium forms produced in the interaction of aldehyde groups with molecules of the solvent or of hydroxylamine. Analysis with the aid of EDIAP mass spectrometry requires 100–200 picomoles, calculated on the initial amount of sucrose. The time of analysis is 5 min. The mass spectra contain only the peaks of quasimolecular ions of the type of [M + Na]⁺.Institute of Analytical Instrument-construction, Leningrad. Phase formation of BICUVOX solid solutions

Phase formation of Bi₄(V_{1 ? x} Cu _x )₂O_{11 ? z} solid solutions (BICUVOX) with x = 0.00–0.20 and Δx = 0.02 was studied. The concentration stability ranges were determined for the α, β, and γ polymorphs of BICUVOX solid solutions at room temperature, and their unit cell parameters were revised. The following was found to occur as x rises: the α ai β phase transition temperature between the monoclinic and orthorhombic phases shifts down, the β ai γ phase transition temperature to the high-temperature tetragonal phase shifts down, and the order-disorder phase transition temperature between γ′ ai γ tetragonal phases shifts up.     

Wastewater treatment with new activated charcoals to remove butanol

Adsorption of butanol under static conditions on two types of activated charcoals, prepared from birch and a blend of oak and beech, was studied. The adsorption on birch charcoal was carried out under dynamic conditions. The limiting stage of the process was determined. The dependence of the purification efficiency on the fractional composition of activated charcoal and the feed rate of the contaminated solution was studied. Antioxidant properties of water-soluble amino acid derivatives of fullerenes and their role in the inhibition of herpes virus infection

The antioxidant properties of water-soluble amino acid derivatives of fullerene C₆₀ (ADF) were studied. It was shown by the change in the concentration of malonic dialdehyde in rat brain mitochondria that the ADF are antioxidants. They were shown by the change in the luminol glow to possess antiradical activity, which is determined by the acceptor properties of the fullerene spheroid and is independent of the structure of the attached addends. Stereoselectivity of the antioxidant properties of the enantiomers of amino acid derivatives of fullerene C₆₀ was found. The L-isomers of ADF inhibit lipid peroxidation, whereas the D-isomers do not inhibit. A reliable correlation between the development of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and the process of lipid peroxidation in the cell culture was established. An efficient inhibitor of the CMV infection from the class of amino acid derivatives of fullerene with antioxidant activity was obtained.
