Determination of metals and trace elements in patients with total knee or hip arthroplasty with CoCrMo alloy was performed. Blood, urine and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples were analyzed and compared with samples from healthy people. Levels of Co, Cr as well as Na, Ca, Fe, Zn, Se, Rb, Sb and Br were determined by means of neutron activation analysis. The values of Cr and Co of the blood and urine measurements were elevated in patients with replacement, and according to the statistical analysis, significant differences of the elements Zn, Br, Co and Sb were found in the CSF (p?<?0.05).

We study the interplay between Auger effects and ionization processes in the limit of strong electronic confinement in core/shell CdSe/ZnS semiconductor nanocrystal quantum dots. Spectrally resolved fluorescence decay measurements reveal a monotonic increase of the photoluminescence decay rate on excitation density. Our results suggest that Auger recombination accelerates ionization processes that lead to the occupation of dark, nonemissive nanocrystal states. A model is proposed in the quantized Auger regime describing these experimental observations and providing an estimate of the Auger assisted ionization rates.  相似文献

The effect of L-serine in supersaturated solutions of calcium phosphate was investigated under plethostatic conditions. The rates of crystal growth measured in the presence of L-serine at relatively high concentrations and in the range between 2x10(-3) and 1x10(-2) mol dm(-3) were appreciably reduced. The inhibitory effect of L-serine was found to be due to blocking of a portion of the active growth sites by adsorption. Kinetics measurements in the presence of L-serine as well as adsorption isotherm analysis suggested Langmuir-type adsorption of L-serine on the surface of hydroxyapatite (HAP) with a relatively low affinity for the substrate. Adsorption experiments showed that at pH 7.4 considerable adsorption of L-serine onto HAP takes place, whereas at pH 10.0 the adsorption was negligible, suggesting that electrostatic interactions are dominant. Attraction between the positively charged protonated amino group of the L-serine molecule and the negatively charged HAP surface contributed largely to the adsorption. This was corroborated by the fact that, in the presence of L-serine in the solution, a significant shift of zeta-potential of the HAP particles to less negative values was found at pH values close to 7.4. At pH values higher than 10.0 essentially no shift of zeta-potential takes place. On the basis of the experimental results, a model was proposed according to which L-serine absorbs on the surface of HAP through electrostatic attractions exerted between one negative site of the HAP surface, i.e., phosphate or hydroxyl ion, and the positively charged protonated amino group of one L-serine molecule, forming a surface ion pair. ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: The peri-adolescent period is a crucial developmental moment of transition from childhood to emergent adulthood. The present report analyses the differences in Power Spectrum (PS) of the Electroencephalogram (EEG) between late childhood (24 children between 8 and 13 years old) and young adulthood (24 young adults between 18 and 23 years old). RESULTS: The narrow band analysis of the Electroencephalogram was computed in the frequency range of 0--20 Hz. The analysis of mean and variance suggested that six frequency ranges presented a different rate of maturation at these ages, namely: low delta, delta-theta, low alpha, high alpha, low beta and high beta. For most of these bands the maturation seems to occur later in anterior sites than posterior sites. Correlational analysis showed a lower pattern of correlation between different frequencies in children than in young adults, suggesting a certain asynchrony in the maturation of different rhythms. The topographical analysis revealed similar topographies of the different rhythms in children and young adults. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) demonstrated the same internal structure for the Electroencephalogram of both age groups. Principal Component Analysis allowed to separate four subcomponents in the alpha range. All these subcomponents peaked at a lower frequency in children than in young adults. CONCLUSIONS: The present approaches complement and solve some of the incertitudes when the classical brain broad rhythm analysis is applied. Children have a higher absolute power than young adults for frequency ranges between 0-20 Hz, the correlation of Power Spectrum (PS) with age and the variance age comparison showed that there are six ranges of frequencies that can distinguish the level of EEG maturation in children and adults. The establishment of maturational order of different frequencies and its possible maturational interdependence would require a complete series including all the different ages.  相似文献

Evolution of porosity in geotechnical composites   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) (H1) transverse relaxation measurements were carried out on 37x70-mm cylindrical mineral/organic composites to determine and monitor the porosity evolution. Porosity is related, in principle, to the stability of such materials in geotechnical applications, for example, engineering foundations. The specimens represented novel formulations of mixed "wastes" containing coarse screened mineral, digested sewage sludge, quicklime, and pulverized fuel ash mixed and compacted together to form mechanically competent material. The measurements on a selected formulation indicated initially low porosity (<12%) that becomes lower over 6 months ( approximately 8%) due to pozzolanic reactions occurring. A relaxation time cutoff of 1.5 ms between "bound" and 'mobile' pore water much lower than sandstones (33 ms) was observed. The results confirmed that the NMR method allows a more reliable assessment of porosity and pore-size evolution.  相似文献

An integral equation formulation for buoyancy-driven convection problems is developed and illustrated. Buoyancy-driven convection in a bounded cylindrical geometry with a free surface is studied for a range of aspect ratios and Nusselt numbers. The critical Rayleigh number, the nature of the cellular motion, and the heat transfer enhancement are computed using linear theory. Green's functions are used to convert the linear problem into linear Fredholm integral equations. Theorems are proved which establish the properties of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the linear integral operator which appears in these equations.  相似文献

We study the fabrication and power conversion efficiency of GaAs photodiodes, which have been nano-structured and covered with colloidal quantum dots. A focussed ion beam is used to etch vertical channels into the photodiodes and the detrimental effects of this treatment are characterised in-situ during the fabrication process. A novel experimental configuration allows the electrical characterization of the photodiodes under laser illumination during the nano-fabrication process and reveals the gradual decrease of the photodiodes’ shunt resistance with increasing laterally revealed surface along the etched channels. This is interpreted as evidence for leakage currents through redeposited material and surface states on the lateral channel surface. After the fabrication step the channels are filled with colloidal quantum dots, which upon absorption of light transfer electronic excitations to the photodiode via resonance energy transfer. It is found that after the addition of quantum dots the nano-structured photodiodes show larger enhancements of the energy conversion efficiency under simulated solar irradiance than the pristine photodiodes. Nevertheless, the device degradation induced by the ion beam treatment itself cannot be compensated for.  相似文献
