Some Isoperimetric Inequalities in Electrochemistry and Hele Shaw Flows

Isoperimetric inequalities are applied to a moving-boundaryproblem for doubly-connected domains. This problem occurs forexample in electrochemistry, in which case the domains in questionare the electrolyte of an electrolytic cell. The two electrodessurrounding the electrolyte are assumed to grow or dissolve,at different rates in general, by electrochemical reaction.We obtain optimal estimates showing, for example, that the leastchange in volume of each electrode always occurs in sphericalsymmetry.     

Electron spin resonance spectroscopy of phenyl-cycloalkyl carbenes

Phenyl-cyclohexyl, phenyl-cyclopentyl, phenyl-cyclobutyl, phenyl-l-benzylcyclobutyl, and phenyl-l-benzylcyclopropylcarbone were photochemically generated in a matrix at low temperature and studied by ESR.

Two-photon interband magneto absorption in InSb

Two-photon interband magnetoabsorption in InSb has been studied by measuring the resulting changes in the photoconductivity and free-hole absorption as a function of magnetic field and incident photon energy. In both the photoconductivity and transmission measurements, resonant structure with the peaks occuring at the same values of magnetic field was observed with the incident light polarized both parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic field. The results thus are not in agreement with the existing theories of two-photon magnetoabsorption. A modification to a perturbation theory approach is suggested that appears to explain the experimental observations.
