Measurement of the Rates of Diffusion of Halomethanes into Polymer Films Using ATR-FTIR Spectroscopy

Polymer-modified attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy and FEWS (fibre-optic evanescent wave) spectroscopy have been very successful to date for sensitive detection of organic pollutants in water utilising the mid-infrared (MIR) region of the electromagnetic spectrum (4000-400 cm?1). This sensing approach involves the use of different polymer films for preconcentration with optimisation of the sensor related to the rate of diffusion of solvent molecules into these polymer films. Compounds such as chloroform, bromoform, bromodichloromethane and dibromochloromethane which are collectively referred to as trihalomethanes (THMs) were analysed in this work. A gaseous phase experimental design was used and from experimental data the rate of diffusion of each of the halomethanes was quantified based on a Fickian type diffusion model. Individual diffusion coefficient values were found to be in the range 3.38 E-10 ± 0.01 E-10 to 4.72 E-08 ± 0.42 E-08 cm2 s?1. Multicomponent effects were observed for mixtures of compounds diffusing into polyisobutylene and ethylene-propylene copolymer. 相似文献

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a collaborative project to create a free editable map database of the world. This paper presents an analysis of the evolution of OSM street network representations. Three urban areas in Ireland were analysed where each evolves from containing little street network detail to a highly detailed street network. In order to characterise this evolution a number of metric and topological characteristics were computed. Some characteristics exhibited broadly similar behaviour in each region. This may be a attributed to similarities in the degree of contributor activity and intrinsic universal mapping procedures exhibited by contributors. 相似文献

In this paper all cocyclic Hadamard matrices of order less than 40 are classified. That is, all such Hadamard matrices are
explicitly constructed, up to Hadamard equivalence. This represents a significant extension and completion of work by de Launey
and Ito. The theory of cocyclic development is discussed, and an algorithm for determining whether a given Hadamard matrix
is cocyclic is described. Since all Hadamard matrices of order at most 28 have been classified, this algorithm suffices to
classify cocyclic Hadamard matrices of order at most 28. Not even the total numbers of Hadamard matrices of orders 32 and
36 are known. Thus we use a different method to construct all cocyclic Hadamard matrices at these orders. A result of de Launey,
Flannery and Horadam on the relationship between cocyclic Hadamard matrices and relative difference sets is used in the classification
of cocyclic Hadamard matrices of orders 32 and 36. This is achieved through a complete enumeration and construction of (4t, 2, 4t, 2t)-relative difference sets in the groups of orders 64 and 72. 相似文献

The thermal conductance of individual single crystalline silicon nanowires with diameters less than 30 nm has been measured from 20 to 100 K. The observed thermal conductance shows unusual linear temperature dependence at low temperatures, as opposed to the T3 dependence predicted by the conventional phonon transport model. In contrast to previous models, the present study suggests that phonon-boundary scattering is highly frequency dependent, and ranges from nearly ballistic to completely diffusive, which can explain the unexpected linear temperature dependence. 相似文献
