Vibrational assignment, <Emphasis Type="Italic">ab initio</Emphasis> calculation and normal coordinate analysis of 2,2′-biquinoline

The vibrational wavenumbers and the fundamental modes of 2,2′-biquinoline were obtained by density functional theory (DFT) with the B3LYP functional using the 6-31G(d,p) basis set. The calculated wavenumbers were scaled by a single factor of 0.965 to correct them for vibrational anharmonicity, but the force constants were overestimated. Normal coordinate analysis of the molecule was also carried out by using the force field of the quinoline molecule and the force field parameters of quinoline are shown to be transferable to 2,2′-biquinoline. The potential energy distribution associated with the normal modes is also given. The theoretical wavenumbers are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.     

Papain Loaded Poly(ε-Caprolactone) Nanoparticles<Emphasis Type="Italic">: In-silico and</Emphasis><Emphasis Type="Italic">In-Vitro</Emphasis> Studies

Papain is a protease enzyme with therapeutic properties that are very valuable for medical applications. Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) is an ideal polymeric carrier for controlled drug delivery systems due to its low biodegradability and its high biocompatibility. In this study, the three-dimensional structure and action mechanism of papain were investigated by in vitro and in silico experiments using molecular dynamics (MD) and molecular docking methods to elucidate biological functions. The results showed that the size of papain-loaded PCL nanoparticles (NPs) and the polydispersity index (PDI) of the NPs were 242.9 nm and 0.074, respectively. The encapsulation efficiency and loading efficiency were 80.4 and 27.2%, respectively. Human embryonic kidney cells (HEK-293) were used for determining the cytotoxicity of papain-loaded PCL and PCL nanoparticles. The in vitro cell culture showed that nanoparticles are not toxic at low concentrations, while toxicity slightly increases at high concentrations. In silico studies, which were carried out with MD simulations and ADME analysis showed that the strong hydrogen bonds between the ligand and the papain provide stability and indicate the regions in which the interactions occur.

Three-dimensional blow-up solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations

In this paper we extend the plane blow-up results of Grundy& McLaughlin (1997) to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations.Using a solution structure originally due to Lin we first providenumerical evidence for the existence of blow-up solutions on- < x, z < , 0 y 1 with boundary conditions on y = 0and y = 1 involving derivatives of the velocity components.The formulation enables us to consider plane and radial flowas special cases. Various features of the computations are isolatedand are used to construct a formal asymptotic solution closeto blow-up. We show that the numerical and asymptotic analysesprovide a mutually consistent global picture which supportsthe conclusion that, for the family of problems we considerhere, blow-up in fact can take place in three dimensions butat an inverse linear rate rather than the faster inverse squareof the plane case.     

Long-term retention of ice-nucleating active Pseudomonas fluorescens by overwintering colorado potato beetles

Ice nucleating-active Pseudomonas fluorescens F264C was fed to Colorado potato beetles to determine bacterial retentioin in the beetle gut and its effect on the cold hardiness of this insect pest. The bacrterium was present in beetles recovered after overwintering in the field, seven months after their exposure to P. fluorescens. Retention was evident not only in the detection of the P. fluorescens ice nucleating gene, inaW, in bacterial cultures from beetle guts but also in the elevated supercooling points of some treated beetles.     

Electronically selective chemical functionalization of carbon nanotubes: correlation between Raman spectral and electrical responses

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) demonstrate remarkable electronic and mechanical properties useful in developing areas such as nanoelectromechanical systems and flexible electronics. However, the highly inhomogeneous electronic distribution arising from different diameters and chirality in any given as-synthesized SWNT samples imposes severe limitations. Recently demonstrated selective chemical functionalization methods may provide a simple scalable means of eliminating metallic tubes from SWNT transistors and electronic devices. Here, we report on combined electron transport and Raman studies on the reaction of 4-bromobenzene diazonium tetrafluoroborate directly with single and networks of SWNT transistors. First, Raman studies are carried out on isolated individual SWNTs grown on SiO2/Si substrates by chemical vapor deposition with and without metal contacts. Metallic tubes are found to have, on average, higher reactivity toward diazonium reagents. However, a considerable degradation of electrical properties of semiconducting tubes occurs if the reaction is carried out to the point where the conductivity of metallic tubes is significantly suppressed. Insights from single-tube studies are then applied to elucidate the electrical and the Raman responses of SWNT random network transistors of different channel lengths to chemical functionalization.     

Low-lying (K π = 0+) states of gadolinium isotopes

The sd-interacting boson approximation (sd-IBA) and the df-interacting boson approximation (df-IBA) can be related to each other and the states of the interacting boson approximation model can be identified with the fully symmetric states in the sdf interacting boson approximation model. A systematic study of the sdf-IBA model showed that the constructed Hamiltonian can successfully describe the strong octupole correlations in the deformed nuclei. We showed that the interacting boson approximation may account for many of these K ^π ?=?0⁺ states. It was found that the calculated energy spectra of the gadolinium isotopes agree quite well with the experimental data. The observed B(E2) values were also calculated and compared with the experimental data.     

Higher Dimensional Unified Description of Early Universe with Variable <Emphasis Type="Italic">G</Emphasis> and Λ

A homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) model with varying gravitational and cosmological constant is studied in the context of higher dimensional space time. Exact solution of the field equations are obtained by using the “gamma law” equation of state p=(γ−1)ρ, where γ is adiabatic parameter varies continuously as the universe expands. The functional form γ which is assumed to be the function of scale factor R as proposed by Carvalho (1996) is used to analyse the behavior of scale factor R, cosmological constant Λ and the gravitational constant G for two different phases: inflation and radiation. The various physical aspects of the early cosmological models has also been discussed in the framework of higher dimensional space time.
