Simultaneous and sequential poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAAm)/poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) with different linear PDMS contents were prepared by free radical polymerization method. Their phase morphologies have been characterized by FTIR, DSC and SEM. The simultaneous semi-IPNs exhibited phase transition temperatures (Tpt) shifted higher temperature from glass transition temperatures (Tg) of their respective homopolymers, suggesting a heterophase morphology and only physical entanglement between the PNIPAAm network and linear PDMS with high molecular weight (Mn≈9000 g/mol). For sequential semi-IPNs, the shift of Tpts towards lower temperature suggested that the chemical interaction between the constituents of the IPNs increased with increasing PDMS content in the network. In addition, these semi-IPNs were characterized for their thermo-sensitive behaviour by equilibrium swelling studies. The results showed that incorporation of hydrophobic PDMS polymer into the thermo- and pH-sensitive PNIPAAm and P(NIPAAm-co-IA) (itaconic acid) hydrogels by semi-IPN formation decreased swelling degrees of IPNs without affecting their LCSTs whereas addition of acrylated PDMS (Tegomer V-Si 2250) as crosslinker instead of N,N-methylenebisacrylamide (BIS) into the structures of these hydrogels changed their LCSTs along with their swelling degrees.  相似文献

Temperature‐ and pH‐sensitive copolymers and terpolymers of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) with itaconic acid (IA), monomethyl itaconate (MMeI), monobutyl itaconate (MBuI), monooctyl itaconate (MOcI), monocetyl itaconate (MCeI), and dimethyl itaconate (DMI) were prepared by free radical solution polymerization method. The dependence of coil‐to‐globule transition on pH and composition, molecular structures, and reactivities of monoalkyl itaconates, molecular weight distributions, and glass transition temperatures of copolymers and terpolymers were investigated using FT‐IR and UV–visible spectroscopic techniques, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and acid–base titration methods. The temperature‐/pH‐dependent coil‐to‐globule transition measurements showed that, upon increasing the content and length of alkyl chains, the lower critical solution temperatures (LCSTs) were shifted to higher temperatures. This meant that with increase in the length of hydrophobic alkyl chain in the monoitaconates intramolecular intreactions between the carboxyl groups were suppressed and LCSTs increased. The aqueous solution behaviors of NIPAAm/IA/DMI terpolymers also revealed that, even if the terpolymer hydrophobicity is increased by adding DMI units, the presence of IA units overcame the decrease in hydrophilicity of the terpolymers. The presence of DMI units in the terpolymers balanced the hydrophilic character of IA. DSC results supported the ones obtained from the pH‐dependent coil‐to‐globule transition measurements. An increase in both the chain length of alkyl groups attached to the monoitaconates and the contents of the mono‐ and dialkyl itaconates in the copolymers and terpolymers decreased the Tgs. In the case of NIPAAm/IA and NIPAAm/MMeI copolymers, the presence of the carboxyl groups forming hydrogen bonds increased the Tg, while the monoalkyl and dialkyl itaconates such as MBuI, MOcI, MCeI and DMI lead to a decrease in Tg of copolymers and terpolymers because of the suppression of intramolecular interactions (resulting from the ? COOH and ? COO? groups) through the longer alkyl spacers. The dependence of the thermosensitivity of these NIPAAm copolymers and terpolymers on different conditions of pH, and the nature and content of comonomers suggests that they can be useful in biotechnology and drug delivery applications which involve small changes in pH and temperature. Hydrophobically modified and thermally reversible neutral and ionic copolymer hydrogels were prepared from N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), vinyl terminated poly (dimethylsiloxane) (VTPDMS) and itaconic acid (IA) by free radical solution polymerization, and their properties such as swelling ratio and compression modulus were studied at the 25°C. The incorporation of VTPDMS as a hydrophobic macrocrosslinker into the structures of neutral NIPAAm hydrogels increased their mechanical strength around 10 times than those of the ones crosslinked with conventional tetra functional monomer, i.e., N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide (BIS). Compression modulus decreased with an increase in IA content for ionic samples and increased with increasing molecular weight and content of VTPDMS for neutral samples. It was assumed that in the first case, electrostatic repulsive forces resulting from the ionized carboxyl groups of IA were responsible for decreasing mechanical strength, while in the second case, hydrophobic interactions between dimethylsiloxane units of VTPDMS chains enhanced the compression moduli. According to the results presented in this work, it can be said that the right balance of hydrophobic and hydrophilic constituents and adjustment of the number of ionized groups, as well as crosslinking degree, change the structure and physical properties of NIPPAAm hydrogels.  相似文献
