Relaxation kinetics of photoconductivity in <Emphasis Type="Italic">р</Emphasis>-silicon compensated by phosphorus atoms

The relaxation kinetics of photoconductivity in neutron-doped silicon (NDS) of the p-type is discussed. It is found that the relaxation process in the compensated p-Si<B, P> differs from that in the reference p-Si<B> sample. The difference is explained on the basis of concept of different micrononuniformity of the material conductivity. A method based on studying the dependences of charge-carrier mobility on annealing time is developed for determining thermal annealing of structural defects.     

Methods of Bifurcation Theory in Multiparameter Problems of Hydroaeroelasticity

Applying bifurcation theory methods to nonlinear boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations (ODEs) of the fourth and higher orders encounters technical difficulties related to studying the spectrum of direct and adjoint linearized problems and constructing Green functions (i.e., proving the spectral problems to be Fredholm and determining the manifolds of bifurcation points). In order to overcome these difficulties, methods for separating the roots of relevant characteristic equations have been proposed, with the subsequent representation of the bifurcation manifolds in terms of these roots; this enables investigation of nonlinear problems in their rigorous statement. Such an approach is considered using the example of a two-point boundary value problem for a fourth-order ODE in which a statically bent pipeline section is described as a flexible elastic hollow rod, with a liquid flowing inside it, that is compressed or stretched by external boundary conditions with a free sliding left end and fixedly mounted right ends.     

Calculation of nonstationary drainage in the case of a finite number of closed horizontal drains

In the hydrodynamic formulation, a study is made of nonstationary drainage in a water-bearing stratum in the presence of a finite number of closed drains and variable infiltration. The drains are simulated by linear sinks with known time-dependent flow rates per unit length of the drains. The dependences found in the paper enable one to predict, and if necessary also regulate the dynamics of the level of ground water in a drained region, which is of practical interest in the study of salinization and swamping of land.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 165–170, July–August, 1979.     

Decaying surface waves in inhomogeneous media

Two problems on plane decaying surface waves in an inhomogeneous medium are under consideration: the problem where the waves similar to Rayleigh waves propagate in an isotropic elastic half-space that borders with a layer of an ideal incompressible fluid and the problem where the waves similar to Love waves propagate in a semi-infinite saturated porous medium that borders with a layer of an isotropic elastic medium.
