Microcontact printed poly(amidoamine) dendrimer monolayers on silicon oxide surface

Patterning of silicon substrates with poly(amidoamine) generation 5 (PAMAM-G5) dendrimers using soft lithographic microcontact printing (μCP) is presented. μCP is shown to yield monolayers of dendrimers patterned with high level of definition over μm² to mm² areas. The patterns are stable over a period of weeks, which is attributed to the suppressed diffusion of partially charged G5 PAMAM on oxidized silicon. However, the dendrimers studied were shown to be relatively weakly bound to the substrate when subjected to lateral stresses. In aqueous conditions most of the dendrimers desorbed from the substrate.     

Sr and stable strontium in bones of wild, herbivorous animals from Poland

Activity concentration of ⁹⁰ Sr and stable strontium concentration was analysed in 42 samples of animal (deer, roe-deer, elk and boar) bones, which mostly originated from north-eastern Poland. Strontium separation was performed by extraction chromatography. Determination of chemical yield was controlled by means of stable Sr determination using atomic spectrometry at the beginning and at the end of the separation procedure. Equilibrated ⁹⁰ Sr and ⁹⁰ Y activity was measured using a liquid scintillator spectrometer. Stable strontium range was from 55.4±1.7 ppm to 91.8±4.5 ppm, the mean was 71.84 ppm with a standard deviation (SD) of 9.31 ppm. The mean recovery of strontium was 26.7% with SD = 16.1%. The maximum activity of ⁹⁰ Sr, equal to 629±13 Bq/kg (ash) was found for a deer sample from Augustów Primeval Forest. In average, deer show the highest radiostrontium level, followed by roe-deer, elk and the lowest level were observed for boar. Differences between boar and deer or roe-deer are significant in terms of Kruskal-Wallis statistical test. Animal bones from north-eastern Poland showed about twice the mean concentration of ⁹⁰ Sr, compared to those of south-central Poland, but the difference was found not significant. Activities observed in roe-deer bones suggest the deposition of a concentration of 1.9 to 3.5 kBq/m² in the average of Chernobyl-origin ⁹⁰ Sr in 1986 in north-eastern Poland.

An approach for disaccharide chiron synthesis using a Ferrier-type rearrangement

We report a new approach for the synthesis of new chiral synthons in which two unsaturated sugars are linked via a glycosidic bond. The di-unsaturated disaccharide can be further functionalized using effective, highly selective methods and used in convergent syntheses of relatively complex glycoconjugates. Our approach utilizes in situ generation of active glycosyl donors via Ferrier-type rearrangement under phase-transfer conditions and subsequent reaction with a nucleophile.     

The anisotropic quantum antiferromagnet on the Sierpiński gasket: Ground state and thermodynamics

We investigate an antiferromagnetic s = 1/2 quantum spin system with anisotropic spin exchange on a fractal lattice, the Sierpiski gasket. We introduce a novel approximative numerical method, the configuration selective diagonalization (CSD) and apply this method to a the Sierpiski gasket with N = 42. Using this and other methods we calculate ground state energies, spin gap, spin-spin correlations and specific heat data and conclude that the s = 1/2 quantum antiferromagnet on the Sierpinski gasket shows a disordered magnetic ground state with on the Sierpinski gasket shows a disordered magnetic ground state with a very short correlation length of and an, albeit very small, spin gap. Ideal version of Egorov's theorem for analytic P-ideals

We introduce the notion of equi-ideal convergence and use it to prove an ideal variant of Egorov's theorem. We also show that this variant usually cannot be strengthen to a direct analogue of Egorov's theorem.     

The synthesis of (4S,5S)-(−)-isocytoxazone

(4S,5S)-(?)-Isocytoxazone, which is needed for a configurational study, was synthesized from the commercially available (1S,2S)-(+)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol in which the p-nitro substituent was replaced by a p-methoxyl group; the thus prepared p-methoxyphenyl amino diol was cyclized via an N-Boc derivative.
