Phosphoric acid plant wastewater containing fluoride, phosphate and chemical oxygen demand etc., was treated using electrooxidation and electroflocculation methods. A maximum of 82% F- and 22.7% COD were removed using Ti/Pt(5c) under electrooxidative conditions. Electrooxidation with respect to F- removal is found mass-transfer limited, and removals below 5-6 mg/L F- are not achievable. Electroflocculation using Al anode resulted in better removal of F-, COD and PO4(3-). The various results obtained are discussed in this paper.  相似文献

Steroid 5α-reductase plays a crucial role in catalyzing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which is involved in many androgen-dependent disorders. Leaf-hexane extract from Tectona grandis L.f. has shown promise as a 5α-reductase inhibitor. The objectives of this current study were to isolate and identify 5α-reductase inhibitors from T. grandis leaves and to use them as the bioactive markers for standardization of the extract. Three terpenoid compounds, (+)-eperua-8,13-dien-15-oic acid (1), (+)-eperua-7,13-dien-15-oic acid (2), and lupeol (3), were isolated and evaluated for 5α-reductase inhibitory activity. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited potent 5α-reductase inhibitory activity, while 3 showed weak inhibitory activity. An HPLC method for the quantitative determination of the two potent inhibitors (1 and 2), applicable for quality control of T. grandis leaf extracts, was also developed. The ethanolic extract showed a significantly higher content of 1 and 2 than found in the hexane extract, suggesting that ethanol is a preferable extraction solvent. This study is the first reported isolation of 5α-reductase inhibitors (1 and 2) from T. grandis leaves. The extraction and quality control methods that are safe and useful for further development of T. grandis leaf extract as an active ingredient for hair loss treatment products are also reported.  相似文献

The present study demonstrates the importance of actual agglomerated particle size in the nanofluid and its effect on the fluid properties. The current work deals with 5 to 100 nm nanoparticles dispersed in fluids that resulted in 200 to 800 nm agglomerates. Particle size distributions for a range of nanofluids are measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS). Wet scanning electron microscopy method is used to visualize agglomerated particles in the dispersed state and to confirm particle size measurements by DLS. Our results show that a combination of base fluid chemistry and nanoparticle type is very important to create stable nanofluids. Several nanofluids resulted in stable state without any stabilizers, but in the long term had agglomerations of 250 % over a 2 month period. The effects of agglomeration on the thermal and rheological properties are presented for several types of nanoparticle and base fluid chemistries. Despite using nanodiamond particles with high thermal conductivity and a very sensitive laser flash thermal conductivity measurement technique, no anomalous increases of thermal conductivity was measured. The thermal conductivity increases of nanofluid with the particle concentration are as those predicted by Maxwell and Bruggeman models. The level of agglomeration of nanoparticles hardly influenced the thermal conductivity of the nanofluid. The viscosity of nanofluids increased strongly as the concentration of particle is increased; it displays shear thinning and is a strong function of the level of agglomeration. The viscosity increase is significantly above of that predicted by the Einstein model even for very small concentration of nanoparticles.  相似文献

Elastic flow transitions in viscoelastic flow past a square cavity adjacent to a channel are reported. The critical conditions for the onset of flow transitions and the qualitative and quantitative characterization of the secondary flows generated by the instability have been examined using streakline photography and instantaneous pressure measurements. Cellular type of instabilities inside the cavity is observed for flow rates beyond a critical value. Small and large scale eddies are observed at high flow rates. The flow inside the cavity and in the channel upstream and downstream of the cavity becomes weakly time-dependent for high flow rates.  相似文献

Given the unique structural and electronic properties of C60, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) containing C60 linkers are expected to exhibit interesting characteristics. A new hexakisfullerene derivative possessing two pairs of phenyl pyridine groups attached to two methano‐carbon atoms located at the trans‐1 positions was designed and synthesized. The four pyridyl nitrogen atoms define a perfectly planar rectangle. This new C60 derivative was used to assemble the first fullerene‐linked two‐dimensional MOF by coordination with Cd2+.  相似文献

Cassie-Baxter theory has traditionally been used to study liquid drops in contact with microstructured surfaces. The Cassie-Baxter theory arises from a minimization of the global Gibbs free energy of the system but does not account for the topology of the three-phase contact line. We experimentally compare two situations differing only in the microstructure of the roughness, which causes differences in contact line topology. We report that the contact angle is independent of area void fraction for surfaces with microcavities, which correspond to situations when the advancing contact line is continuous. This result is in contrast with Cassie-Baxter theory, which uses area void fraction as the determining parameter, regardless of the type of roughness.  相似文献

Brahmi essence, developed from Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst. standardized extract and mulberry juice, was proven to improve the memory speed of healthy participants aged 55–80 years old, following a 12-week dietary program. However, the metabolites have not yet been reported. Our objective was to characterize the altered metabolites in the plasma, urine, and feces of healthy volunteers after consumption of Brahmi essence for 12 weeks, using the LC-MS metabolomics approach. The altered metabolites were selected from OPLS-DA S-plots; 15 metabolites in the plasma, 7 in the urine, and 17 in the feces samples were tentatively identified by comparison with an online database and literature. The metabolites in the plasma samples were in the classes of amino acids, acylcarnitine, and phospholipids. Benzeneactamide-4-O-sulphate and 3-hydroxyhippuric acid were found in urine samples. The metabolites in the class of amino acids, together with jujubogenin and pseudojujubogenin, were identified in the fecal samples. The aminoacyl-tRNA, aromatic amino acids, and branched-chain amino acid biosynthetic pathways were mainly related to the identified metabolites in all three samples. It could be implied that those metabolites and their pathways might be linked with the effect of Brahmi essence on memory speed.  相似文献

A co-culture acclimatized to H-acid was used to degrade Reactive Black 5 (RB 5), a bis azo dye having central H-acid function. The effect of substrate concentration, pH and medium composition on the decolorization has been investigated. Decolorization was found independent of pH. Luria-Bertani broth favored decolorization over Yeast Extract; however further decolorization experiments have been conducted using Yeast Extract. The Michaelis-Menten Kinetic model is found to describe the dependence of specific decolorization rate on the RB 5 dye concentration.  相似文献

Electrochemical oxidation of ammonium (NH4+) at Ti/PbO2 anode in chloride-free and chloride containing aqueous solutions was studied. The experimental results have shown that oxidation of NH4- is ensured only in the presence of chloride. The oxidation of NH4+ is found to follow pseudo first-order kinetics. Bromide in the electrolyte is found to cause substantial rate enhancing effect on the ammonium removal. The dependence of k on the current density as well as halide concentration is also discussed in this study.  相似文献
