Summary The paper describes a finite difference method for bounding the norm of the inverse of an ordinary differential operator. Some numerical examples are presented.     

Efficient implementation of ‘Optimal’ algorithms in computerized tomography

We describe three optimal algorithms for the reconstruction of a function in R ² from a finite number of line or strip integrals: Optimal recovery, Bayes estimate, Tikhonov-Phillips method. In the case of a rotationally invariant scanning geometry we show that the resulting linear system is a block-cyclic convolution. This observation leads to algorithms which are roughly as efficient as filtered backprojection which is one of the standard methods. The algorithms can be applied to the case of hollow and truncated projections. Numerical examples are given.

Schranken für die Eigenwerte gewöhnlicher Differentialgleichungen durch Spline-Approximation

Summary This paper is concerned with the computation of the eigenvalues of selfadjoint ordinary differential equations by Rayleigh-Ritz methods using splines. It is shown that computable error bounds may be obtained for a large class of such methods. Some numerical examples are given.     

Regularisierung schlecht gestellter Probleme durch Projektionsverfahren

Summary The numerical solution of ill-posed problems by projection methods is considered. Regularization is carried out simply by choosing an optimal discretization parameter. It is shown by asymptotic estimates and by numerical examples that this kind of regularization is as efficient as the method of Tikhonov and Phillips.

     

Magnetic properties of the cerium monochalcogenides

Single crystals of CeS, CeSe and CeTe have been investigated by means of measurements of the specific heat, the thermal expansion, the magnetic susceptibility and the magnetization at low temperatures. Crystal-field effects on some of these properties are used to derive the crystal-field splitting of the 4f electron ground state. It is found that chemical composition and crystal perfection strongly influence the magnetic properties of these compounds.
