The transport properties of a side-chain liquid-crystalline polymer forming a smectic A phase have been investigated using dichloromethane as a permeant. Samples differing in the isotropization enthaoly were analyzed. A. Correlation between this thermal parameter and sorption has been found, while the diffusion coefficient is substantially the same in all samples. The results obtained can be explained in terms of a biphasis model in which a disordered permeable phase is present within the liquid-crystalline phase, which is impermeable to the diffusant molecules.  相似文献

To help in the understanding of the relations between chemical structure and morphological order in polymers of the type of poly(p-biphenyl acrylate) (PPBA), some polymers of similar structure have been synthesized and some of their physical properties studied. These polymers are: poly(p-biphenyl methacrylate), poly(vinyl p-phenyl benzoate), poly(p-phenyl benzyl acrylate), poly(p-benzyl phenyl acrylate) and poly(p-cyclohexyl phenyl acrylate) (PPCPA). Only PPCPA has been shown to possess a one-dimensional order in the solid state for reasons which are briefly discussed.The effect of copolymerization on the structural order of PPBA has also been given preliminary study. Copolymers of p-biphenyl acrylate (PBA) with p-biphenyl methacrylate (PBMA), N-vinyl carbazole (NVC) and p-cyclohexyl phenyl acrylate (PCPA) have been prepared and their properties have been studied by DSC and X-ray techniques. Small concentrations of PBMA or NVC units are sufficient to cancel the order of PPBA. On the contrary, copolymers of PBA and PCPA of any composition display morphological order in the solid state.  相似文献

A sustainable procedure for recycling powdered rubber coming from scrap tires (ground tire rubber [GTR]) is proposed as based on the dispersion in polyketone (PK) matrix, obtained in situ by CO/ethylene copolymerization. Three types of catalysts are used operative in solvents of different polarities. The catalyst productivity and the hybrids morphology are evaluated and optimized to final composites features. The obtained products are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and solvent extractions in order to investigate the occurrence and the extent of interactions between PK macromolecular chains and the GTR components; and their effects on the final properties were tested by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and rheological measurements. For comparison purpose, a composite with GTR included into the matrix through blending is prepared. The results evidenced the key role exerted by the catalyst that, when operative in apolar solvent (able to swell the rubber phase), provides composites with good interfacial adhesion and breaking up of the particles with beneficial effects on final properties particularly thermal features and processability. The 13C NMR spectra of aromatic comblike polyesters obtained from 1,2-icosanediol and isomeric phthalic acids are reported and discussed. The analysis shows that the most informative spectral regions are those of the carbonyl and quaternary carbon resonances, whose peak multiplicities have been interpreted in terms of dyad and triad sequences. The results indicate that the extent of structural characterization possible for the polymers examined is dependent on the type of isomerism of the aromatic acid involved.  相似文献

Azobenzene side-chain liquid crystalline polyester structures suitable for permanent optical storage are described. The synthesis and characterization of the polyesters together with differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray investigations are discussed. Optical anisotropic investigations and holographic storage in one particular polyester are described in detail and polarized Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic data complementing the optical data are presented. Optical and atomic force microscope investigations point to a laser-induced aggregation as responsible for permanent optical storage.  相似文献

The glass transition temperatures of a number of poly(vinyl phenyl ketones), poly-(vinyl benzoates), and poly(phenyl acrylates) have been measured by a refractometric method. The effects exerted on Tg by the nature and position of the ring substituents and by the different groups binding the pendant phenyl rings to the polyvinyl chain are discussed. The importance of knowledge of the side-group motions in the glassy state for the interpretation of glass temperature data is emphasized.  相似文献
