Design and investigation of UV image detectors

The results of investigation of optical image detectors designed for the largest problem, near-VUV, range of the spectrum are presented. The possibility of using a dual-stage image detection system to appreciably lower the sensitivity threshold and make computer data processing feasible is considered. The integration of a UV module into a wideband image detector is studied.     

Raman spectroscopy of topotecan, an inhibitor of DNA topoisomerase I

Topotecan (TPT), a water-soluble derivative of camptothecin (inhibitor of human DNA topoiomerase I), has found wide application in cancer chemotherapy. The central problem in using topotecan is the presence of lactone rings in its molecules, which undergo hydrolysis at a physiological pH yielding an inactive and even toxic form of the drug. The analysis of Raman spectra of TPT in H₂O and D₂O solutions made it possible to assign the spectral bands to the vibrations of particular molecular groups. Spectral features indicative of the opening of the lactone rings of the TPT molecules, deprotonation of the hydroxyl groups in their quinoline fragments, and of possible participation of the hydroxyl and carbonyl groups in H bonding are found. The data obtained are necessary to study the molecular mechanisms of TPT-DNA interaction and the formation of ternary complexes between TPT, DNA, and DNA topoisomerase I.     

Study of the peak effect phenomenon in single crystals of 2H-NbSe2

The weakly pinned single crystals of the hexagonal 2H-NbSe₂ compound have emerged as prototypes for determining and characterizing the phase boundaries of the possible order-disorder transformations in the vortex matter. We present here a status report based on the ac and dc magnetization measurements of the peak effect phenomenon in three crystals of 2H-NbSe₂, in which the critical current densities vary over two orders of magnitude. We sketch the generic vortex phase diagram of a weakly pinned superconductor, which also utilizes theoretical proposals. We also establish the connection between the metastability effects and pinning.     

Alkaloids ofPetilium raddeana II. Structures of petisine and petisinine

The alkaloids imperialine, imperialone, peumisine, petiline, petilidine, and the new bases petisine (I) and petisinine (III) have been isolated from bulbs ofPetilium raddeana (Regl.) Vved. On the basis of spectral characteristics and passages to a known compound, the structure of 3-hydroxy-²²(N)-22,26-iminocholestane-6,23-dione has been established for (I) and petisine 3-glucopyranoside for (III).Institute of the Chemistry of Plant Substances of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR, Tashkent. Raman spectra and structural features of ClOF2 + cation in a solution of anhydrous HF

The Raman spectra of ClOF₂ ⁺ cation in solutions of anhydrous HF were studied. In the ClOF₂ ⁺HF₂ ⁻ and ClOF₂ ⁺BF₄ ⁻−HF systems, this cation exists as a pyramidal structure (C _s symmetry), while in the ClOF₂ ⁺AuF₆ ⁻−HF system, it exists as a planar structure (C _2v symmetry). Based on nonempirical calculations by the Hartree-Fock-Roothaan method, an explanation for the dependence of the structure of the ClOF₂ ⁺ cation on the nature of the anion was proposed. For the Cl−O bond vibrations, the correlation functions of vibrational and rotational relaxations were calculated, and the characteristic times of these processes were determined. The main contribution to the formation of the band contours corresponding to the above-mentioned modes is made by the vibrational dephasing. An algorithm for reconstructing the Dirac operator with a spectral parameter in the boundary condition

The problem of reconstructing the Dirac operator with nonseparated boundary conditions of which one includes a spectral parameter is considered. A uniqueness theorem is proved, and an algorithm for solving the inverse problem is proposed.
