Kuratowski Convergence of Holomorphic Functions

The notion of Kuratowski convergence is applied to describe a kind of convergence in the context of holomorphic functions. We associate it to a convenient topology, explore its relation with the compact-open topology, thus providing a new set theoretic point of view of this classic topology, and present it in the framework of set-valued mappings.     

Some investigations on the photostabilization of polypropylene

The effect of substituted hydroxybenzophenone, benzotriazole and organic metal complexes on the photooxidation of PP films has been studied. It has been established that NiDBTC added in 1.0 wt. % is the most effective photostabilizer.While in the case of other stabilizers there is a slight increase in the Co content even during the induction period, with the application of NiDBTC practically no oxidation can be observed before the stabilizer completely disappears. This means that NiDBTC inhibits the photooxidation of the polymer even in low concentration.

Studies on stereoselective approaches to β-carboline derivatives

Transformation of β-carboline derivatives into optically active entities were studied and the de and ee values of the resulted compounds were detected. Dedicated to Professor Károly Lempert on his 80th birthday.     

Selective hydrogenations of steroids catalyzed by heterogenized Ru complexes

Summary [RuCl₂(PPh₃)₃], [{RuCl₂(TPPMS)₂}₂] and their heterogenized analogs were applied in the selective hydrogenation of 17-keto- and α,β-unsaturated ketosteroids. In basic conditions these complexes selectively hydrogenated the C=O bonds, similarly to the results obtained in the case of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes. A new method was developed for the synthesis of an expensive steroid alcohol, which can be prepared traditionally in a more complicated way.     

Evidence for quasi-intramolecular acid-base reactions in solutions of transition metal ammine complexes

We have investigated the effect of temperature on the postulated quasi-intramolecular acid-base reactions in aqueous solutions of Cu(NH₃)₄(MnO₄)₂ and Ag(NH₃)₂ClO₄. Pure ammonium permanganate and perchlorate were obtained above 5 C and at room temperature, respectively, due to quasi-intramolecular acid-base reactions.     

Synthesis of 4-thia analogues of isoquinoline alkaloids

Summary (±)-4-Thiacarnegin (3) was synthesized by reaction of 6,7-dimethoxy-3-methyl-2H-1,3-benzothiazinium iodide (2) with methyl magnesium iodide, thereby opening a new synthetic route to 4-substituted dihydro-2H-1,3-benzothiazines. Compound3 was also obtained by reduction of 6,7-dimethoxy-3,4-dimethyl-2H-1,3-benzothiazinium iodide (5). In a similar way, reduction of the quaternary salts9 a–c afforded the (±)-4-thia analogues of cryptostilin-I, -II and -III (10 a–c). The isomers of the former compounds (12 a–c) were also synthesized by reduction of the 4H-1,3-benzothiazinium salts11 a–c.

Synthese von 4-Thiaanalogen von Alkaloiden mit Isochinolingerüst

Zusammenfassung Aus 6,7-Dimethoxy-3-methyl-2H-1,3-benzothiaziniumjodid (2) wurde mit Methylmagnesiumjodid (±)-Thiacarnegin (3) dargestellt. Diese Reaktion bietet ein neues Verfahren für die Synthese von 4-substituierten Dihydro-2H-1,3-benzothiazinen.3 wurde auch durch Reduktion von 6,7-Dimethoxy-3,4-dimethyl-2H-1,3-benzothiaziniumjodid (5) erhalten. Die Reduktion der quartären Ammoniumsalze9 a–c ergab ebenfalls die Cryptostillin I-, II-, III-(±)-4-thiaanalogen Verbindungen (10 a–c). Reduktion der 4H-1,3-Benzothiazinium-Salze11 a–c lieferte die entsprechenden Isomeren12 a–c der obengenannten Verbindungen.

     

Ternary β-Cyclodextrin Complexes as Models of Allosteric Effects

Two guests reacting with cyclodextrins (CDs) may form ternary complexes, in addition to the common competition of 1:1 complexes. One of the guests can really be included into the cavity of the CD, while the second guest molecule is either inserted close to the first one or attached to the outer surface of the supramolecule by H-bonding. There is a further possibility when the included guest bears a substituent outside the cavity and the second guest can interact with it. The properties of the ternary species formed are highly influenced by the solely (or primarily) included guest. The changes are attributed to the altered properties of the hydrophilic domain of the CD. The phenomena can be proved by NMR data obtained for some binary systems of -CD inclusion complexes and acetic acid and by the stability constants of the ternary complexes formed. Allosteric effects as well as coenzyme/apoenzyme/substrate interactions could be well modelled by these types of CD complexes.     

Nitrogen bridgehead compounds. Part 35. Structures of α-formyl-2,3-polymethylene-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-4-ones

The structures of the title compounds bearing a five-, six- or seven-membered A ring have been investigated by uv and ¹H and ¹³C nmr spectroscopy. The imine-enol-enamine (I-II-III) tautomerism of these compounds depends greatly on the ring size. A significant solvent-dependence is observed only for the five-membered-ring compounds 1 and 2 , which in ethanolic solution exist predominantly in the imine form I, and in chloroform solution in the enol form II. The compounds with a six-membered A ring, 3 and 4 , are mainly in the enamine form III. On protonation, 3 and 4 change into the E and Z isomeric mixture of the enol tautomer II. The seven-membered-ring compound 5 is a mixture of the imine I and the enamine III tautomers.     

FTIR study of CO adsorption on molybdena-alumina catalysts for surface characterization

CO adsorption at low temperature has been used to probe Lewis acid sites created upon dehydroxylation of γ-Al₂O₃ and reduction of Mo/Al₂O₃ catalysts, using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Carbon-monoxide adsorption on γ-Al₂O₃ and Mo/Al₂O₃ catalysts dehydroxylated and reduced at different temperatures was studied at 78 K by IR spectroscopy. However, our results indicate that there is an approximately linear correlation between the increase either of dehydroxylation or the extent of reduction of the catalysts and the increasing absorbance of CO due to CO adsorption on Lewis acid sites created upon dehydroxylation of γ-Al₂O₃ and reduction of Mo/Al₂O₃.
