A new ternary Cu (II) complex with 4,7-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline and NOO-type tridentate Schiff base ligand: Synthesis,crystal structure,biomacromolecular interactions,and radical scavenging activities

NOO-type tridentate Schiff base, N-salicylidene-2-aminobenzoic acid, (H₂L), and its ternary Cu (II) complex containing H₂L Schiff base and 4,7-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (4,7-dmphen), [Cu(4,7-dmphen)(H₂L)]₂7H₂O, have been synthesized and characterized by CHN analysis, ESI-MS, FTIR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The interaction of alone H₂L Schiff base ligand and ternary Cu (II) complex with biomacramolecules {calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA)} has been investigated by electronic absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The experimental results indicate that H₂L Schiff base ligand and ternary Cu (II) complex bind to CT-DNA by means of a moderate intercalation mode. Furthermore, the fluorescence quenching mechanism between H₂L Schiff base ligand and ternary Cu (II) complex with BSA possesses a static quenching process. Radical scavenging activity of H₂L Schiff base ligand and ternary Cu (II) complex was measured in terms of EC₅₀, using the DPPH and H₂O₂ methods. Biomacromolecule interactions and scavenging activity studies revealed that ternary Cu (II) complex yielded better results than H₂L Schiff base ligand alone.     

Rhenium oxo compounds containing eta2-pyrazolate ligands

Reaction of potassium salts of sterically demanding pyrazolates (pz = bis-3,5-tert-butylpyrazolate, pz= bis-3,5-tert-butyl-4-methylpyrazolate) with Re2O7 affords soluble eta2-pyrazolate complexes of the type [(eta2-pz)ReO3(THF)n](1: pz, n= 1 and 2: pz, n= 0). They were characterized by spectroscopic methods and by X-ray crystallography confirming the eta2-coordinate ligands. Complex 1 employing the ligand with a proton in the 4-position retains one molecule of THF, whereas the additional methyl group in 2 leads to the base-free compound 2. Compound 1 reacts with pyridine and 3,5-dimethylpyridine to form Lewis base adducts of the type [(eta2-pz)ReO3(L)](3: L = py; 4: L = 3,5-Me2py). The pronounced sensitivity towards water of these complexes is demonstrated by the reaction of 1 with one equivalent of water forming the corresponding pyrazolium perrhenate [ReO4][pzH2](5). Its solid state structure shows a hydrogen bonded dimeric assembly. Catalytic activity of 1 is established in oxygen atom transfer-reactions (OAT) from dimethylsulfoxide to triphenylphosphine, and in epoxidations of cyclooctene employing bis(trimethylsilyl) peroxide (BTSP).     

Endomorphin analogues with balanced affinity for bothμ- andδ-opioid receptors

Analogues of endomorphin and tripeptidcs modified at positions 4 and 3,respectively,with various phenylalanine analogues were synthesized and their affinities for opioid receptors were evaluated.Most of the peptides exhibited potentμ-receptor affinity and selectivity,among them,compound 7(Dmt-Pro-Tmp-Tmp-NH_2) exhibited potent affinity for bothμ-andδ-receptors (K_iμ= 0.47 nmol/L,K_iδ= 1.63 nmol/L).
