Effect of temperature on IR-absorption of diphenyl

In this work, the temperature dependence of the intensities of the IR absorption bands corresponding to the fundamental vibrations, overtones and combination frequencies of diphenyl is presented. A thorough discussion of the interpretation of the fundamental modes of vibration has been made on the basis of the temperature dependence of the intensities of these absorption bands.The structure of the diphenyl molecule has been the subject of numerous investigations. Despite a considerable amount of work on the Raman(1), IR(3,4,5) and ultraviolet (2) spectra, the assignment of the fundamental frequencies has not yet been established with certainty, Some assistance can be obtained from the temperature dependence of the IR spectrum of this material.     

Construction of the benzylic quaternary carbon center of zoanthenol by intramolecular Mizoroki-Heck reaction of enone

[reaction: see text]. Stereocontrolled synthesis of the ABC ring framework of zoanthenol has been achieved. Our studies show that a beta,beta-disubstituted enone can act as a good acceptor of arylpalladium intermediates in the formation of a congested benzylic quaternary carbon center through an intramoleculer Mizoroki-Heck reaction. The cis B/C ring system was stereoselectively converted to the trans-fused framework through a SmI2-promoted deoxygenation of the alpha-hydroxy ketone.     

Determination of kinetic parameters of the FeCl3/FeCl2 systemvia a novel treatment of chronoamperometric data

Summary Computer based methods for the processing of chronoamperometric datavia convolutions are discussed. On the example of the quasi-reversible Fe³⁺/Fe²⁺ couple, their application for data acquisition and determination of the heterogeneous electrochemical parameters is demonstrated. The plot of Q/i vs. t/i is superior to that employingi/I ₁, being less sensitive to distortions by charging currents once these have died away and by the effects of damping on the initially rapidly varying currents. Cyclic voltammetry is often combined with convolution or deconvolution, and digital simulation studies are also frequently performed to confirm the results.

Bestimmung kinetischer Parameter des Systems FeCl₃/FeCl₂ mittels einer neuen Verarbeitung chronoamperometrischer Daten

Zusammenfassung Computerunterstützte Verfahren zur Verarbeitung chronoamperometrischer Daten mittels Faltungsintegralen werden diskutiert. Am Beispiel des quasireversiblen Systems Fe³⁺/Fe²⁺ wird die Anwendung der neuen Methoden zur Datenerfassung und zur Bestimmung der heterogenen elektrochemischen Parameter gezeigt. Der Plot von Q/i gegen t/i ist dem voni/I ₁ überlegen, da er durch Ladeströme und Dämpfung der ursprünglich stark variierenden Ströme weniger stark beeinflußt wird. Cyclische Voltammetrie wird häufig im Zusammenhang mit Konvolutions- und Dekonvolutionsmethoden angewandt; digitale Simulation zur Überprüfung der Ergebnisse wird ebenfalls oft eingesetzt.

Commutativity of rings with polynomial constraints

Let p, q and r be fixed non-negative integers. In this note, it is shown that if R is left (right) s-unital ring satisfying , respectively) where , then R is commutative. Moreover, commutativity of R is also obtained under different sets of constraints on integral exponents. Also, we provide some counterexamples which show that the hypotheses are not altogether superfluous. Thus, many well-known commutativity theorems become corollaries of our results.     

Alpha Cluster in Hartree-Fock Calculations

Hartree-Fock (HF) calculations have been performed fcr ¹²C nucleus assuming a trigonal D_3h equilibrium configuration. Different aspects including symmetry, kinds of two-body interactions are investigated. The HF calculations have been carried out using a velocity dependent effective potential of s-wave interaction. The results are compared with previous calculations. In all HF calculations no deviation from axial symmetry is obtained.

Nanotechnology in the public eye: the case of Iran,as a developing country

Using survey data, public awareness of and attitudes toward nanotechnology are examined in Iran (N = 759). Iran is a developing country with a national nanotechnology action plan for a ten year period starting from 2003 and has been active in the field of research and development of nanotechnology meanwhile. First, the results show that majority of people are still not familiar with nanotechnology and perceived risks posed by this technology are not considered to be a lot and most people feel its benefits outweigh the risks. The emotions toward this technology are of a hopeful and positive nature and this technology is looked upon favorably in Iran. In particular, our results reveals that although the level of trust is high specially in scientists to communicate the risks with the public, there are a great number who just have some trust not quite a lot of it. Knowing that it is a hard and time-consuming effort to manage a nation’s view on nanotechnology, extensive research as well as collaboration with other countries is needed to effectively communicate the risks in time.     

Structural and optical properties of Ge20SbxSe80-x films

20 Sb_xSe_80-x (where 10≤x≤40 at.%) thin films. The optical absorption results indicate that the absorption mechanism is due to non-direct transition. The optical gap of the as-deposited films was found to decrease monotonically with increasing antimony content, a result which was interpreted on the basis of the chemical-bond approach proposed by Bicerno and Ovshinsky. Annealing of the Ge₂₀Sb₄₀Se₄₀ films at temperatures higher than 450 K was found to decrease the optical gap and increase the refractive index of the investigated film. Increasing the amount of crystalline GeSe₂ and Sb₂Se₃ phases while increasing the annealing temperature could be responsible for the continuous decrease of the optical gap of the Ge₂₀Sb₄₀Se₄₀ film.
