Two-stream-like mechanism of zonal-flow generation by Rossby waves in a shallow rotating fluid

It is shown that the small-scale Rossby waves in a shallow rotating fluid placed in a gravitational field can generate large-scale zonal flows by means of a two-stream-like mechanism. This mechanism is revealed under the conditions when the Lighthill instability criterion is not satisfied. The text was submitted by the authors in English.     

Morphology and spectral properties of thin films of benzoxazole derivatives of biphenyl

We have studied the spectral properties and morphology of thin films (TVD films) formed by thermal vacuum deposition of 4,4′-bis[(E)-1-(1,3-benzoxazol-2-yl)-2-ethenyl]-1,1′-biphenyl and its substituted derivatives. We have shown that introducing bulky 2,2′-oxyhexyl substituents into the biphenyl units leads to a shift of the fluorescence maximum for the TVD films toward shorter wavelengths, a decrease in their photostability, and aggregation of the films during storage. __________ Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Spektroskopii, Vol. 74, No. 3, pp. 300–303, May–June, 2007.

Reactions of 2,3-Dioxopyrrolo[2,1-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]isoquinolines with Active N-Nucleophiles

It is shown that 2,3-dioxopyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines react readily with aliphatic diamines and hydroxyamine with opening of the dioxopyrrole ring and formation of the corresponding bisenaminoketoamides and hydroxamic acids. Reaction with the thiosemicarbazide and hydrazides of aromatic acids proceeds without opening of the pyrrole ring at the ketone carbonyl. Experimental investigation of an active open optical resonator in a turbulent atmosphere

The spectral densities of the time fluctuations of the amplitude of steady-state generation at two wavelengths ₁=0.63 and ₂=1.15 under conditions of turbulent fluctuations of the refractive index in the waveguide channel of an open optical resonator are studied. The frequency dependences of the spectral densities are analyzed at various states of atmospheric turbulence, including the state produced in an aerodynamic chamber. For wavelength ₂ the fluctuations of the water-vapor content form a random absorption field. The distinctive features of the frequency dependence of the spectral density are discussed and related to the time cross-correlation of random fields of the passive impurity of the water-vapor concentration, the temperature, and the turbulent velocity of the flow. The asymptotic behavior of the frequency dependences of the spectral density is analyzed from the standpoint of the self-similarity of the stochastic characteristics of the system consisting of the waveguide channel and the medium.Odessa Hydrometeorological Institute. On the Theory of Ion-Cyclotron Instabilities in Collisional Rotating Plasma

The role of collisions in the ion-cyclotron instabilities in the rotating plasma has been investigated. Collisional varieties of such instabilities at moderate collisions have been shown possible. At frequent enough collisions the total stabilization of such instabilities takes place. A survey of the contemporary state of the problem of the ion-cyclotron instabilities in rotating plasma has been given.
