We found the field structure, exact dispersion relations and power flow ofp-polarized nonlinear guided and surface waves travelling along a three-component layered structure consisting of a film of thicknessd with dielectric constant b bounded at the negativez-side by a linear medium with dielectric constant a and at the positivez-side by a nonlinear uniaxial substrate characterized by the diagonal dielectric tensor 11 = 22 = + (|E 1|2 + |E 2|2), 33 = , <0 (self-defocusing medium),E 1 andE 2 being the components of the electric field in thex andy-direction, respectively. It is shown that for sufficiently smalld/ (: wavelength) the nonlinear wave may exist only at power flows exceeding some certain minimum values. For sufficiently larged/ to some values of the power flow there correspond two distinct values of the propagation constant. In this case with increasing of the power flow the number of waveguide modes is decreasing and for higher-order modes the film-waveguide exhibits an optical-power limiter from the above behaviour.  相似文献

An alternative method of approach has been developed for the measurement of thermal neutron flux. The method depends only on the activity of the bare foil if the cadmium ratio at the irradiation position is known. The method has been tested on the GHARR-1 facility at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission using gold and indium foils for the measurement of the thermal neutron flux in the flux range of 1010–1012 n·cm−2·s−1 and the results compare very well with those obtained using the conventional method (cadmium separation method).  相似文献

We put forward a mechanism for tailoring, and even arresting, the collapse of wave packets in nonlinear media, whose dynamics is governed by nonlocal two-dimensional nonlinear Schr?dinger-like equations. Using a combination of the variation approximation and direct simulations, we consider the model of the light transmission in nonlinearly amplified bulk media, taking into account the localization of the gain, i.e., the linear loss shaped as a parabolic function of the transverse radius, with a minimum at the center. The balance of the transverse diffraction, self-focusing, gain, and the inhomogeneous loss provides for the hitherto elusive stabilization of vortex solitons, in a large zone of the parameter space. Adjacent to it, stability domains are found for several novel kinds of localized vortices, including spinning elliptically shaped ones, eccentric elliptic vortices which feature double rotation, spinning crescents, and breathing vortices.  相似文献

We demonstrate the existence of stable toroidal dissipative solitons with the inner phase field in the form of rotating spirals, corresponding to vorticity S=0, 1, and 2, in the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation with the cubic-quintic nonlinearity. The stable solitons easily self-trap from pulses with embedded vorticity. The stability is corroborated by accurate computation of growth rates for perturbation eigenmodes. The results provide the first example of stable vortex tori in a 3D dissipative medium, as well as the first example of higher-order tori (with S=2) in any nonlinear medium. It is found that all stable vortical solitons coexist in a large domain of the parameter space; in smaller regions, there coexist stable solitons with either S=0 and S=1, or S=1 and S=2.  相似文献

We report results of the first analysis of collisions between stable fundamental (alias spinless) and vortical (spinning) three-dimensional dissipative solitons in a model of a laser cavity. The systematic analysis is carried out for values S=1 and S=2 of the vorticity of the latter soliton. With the increase of the collision momentum, Χ, the same generic scenarios are observed in either case: merger into a single fundamental soliton at both small and relatively large values of Χ, and the formation of two fundamental solitons in an intermediate interval of variation of the collision momentum Χ. At very large values of Χ, the collision seems quasi-elastic, but the vortex soliton eventually splits into two nonspinning fragments.  相似文献
