A periodic first principle study to design microporous crystal 12MO, 7Al2O3 for selective and active O radicals encaging

Periodic first principle calculation correlates the role of metal substitution (Sr and Ba in place of Ca) on selective encaging of active O⁻ radicals inside the microporous 12MO, 7Al₂O₃ crystal structure. We have exchanged Ca by Sr and Ba and as well extracted electron stepwise to monitor selectivity of different anion encaging inside the same structure type. Ca favors O²⁻ encaging and shows no electron transition when neutral, whereas Sr shows no transition in absence of unpaired electron and can successfully trap O⁻, Ba though less active than the other metal substituents shows oxygen encaging at its zero and mono-positive state.     

Dependence of single-molecule conductance on molecule junction symmetry

The symmetry of a molecule junction has been shown to play a significant role in determining the conductance of the molecule, but the details of how conductance changes with symmetry have heretofore been unknown. Herein, we investigate a naphthalenedithiol single-molecule system in which sulfur atoms from the molecule are anchored to two facing gold electrodes. In the studied system, the highest single-molecule conductance, for a molecule junction of 1,4-symmetry, is 110 times larger than the lowest single-molecule conductance, for a molecule junction of 2,7-symmetry. We demonstrate clearly that the measured dependence of molecule junction symmetry for single-molecule junctions agrees with theoretical predictions.     

Three unusual 22-beta-O-23-hydroxy-(5 alpha)-spirostanol glycosides from the fruits of Solanum torvum

Three novel 22-beta-O-spirostanol oligoglycosides, torvosides J (1), K (2) and L (3) have been isolated from the fruits of Solanum torvum SWARTZ and their chemical structures have been characterized based on the spectroscopic means. They are worth of note as rare 22-beta-O-spirostanol glycosides.     

A new tomato pregnane glycoside from the overripe fruits

A new pregnane glycoside has been isolated from the overripe fruits of Cherry tomato (Mini tomato), Lycopersicon esculentum var. cerasiforme (DUNAL) ALEF. The structure was determined to be 3-O-beta-lycotetraosyl 3beta-hydroxy-5alpha-pregn-16-en-20-one on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. The seasonal variation of the tomato saponin is discussed.     

A new homostilbene and two new homoisoflavones from the bulbs of Scilla scilloides

A new homostilbene, named scillabene A (2), and two new homoisoflavones, named scillavones A (3) and B (4), were isolated from the bulbs of Scilla scilloides DRUCE (Liliaceae) along with 13 known compounds comprising a homostilbene, seven homoisoflavones, a xanthone, a lignan, and three nortriterpenes. The structures of 2-4 were characterized as 3,5,4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxy-4-methyl-trans-stilbene, (3R)-5,7,2'-trihydroxy-3',4'-dimethoxyspiro{2H-1-benzopyran-7'-bicyclo[4,2,0]octa[1,3,5]-trien}-4-one and (3S)-3-(3,4-dihydroxybenzyl)-5-hydroxy-6,7-dimethoxychroman-4-one, respectively, on the basis of spectroscopic data and X-ray crystallographic analysis.     

Synthesis of dendritic oligothiophenes and their self-association properties by intermolecular pi-pi interactions

[structure: see text] The addition of oligothiophene into a dendritic structure causes a self-association behavior by intermolecular pi-pi interactions in a solution and in a solid state. Increasing the generation of the dendritic structure gives not only a high association constant but also sufficient field-effect hole mobility, which indicates that the charge-transporting passes are formed by the strong pi-pi interactions.     

Cowaniin, a C-glucosidic ellagitannin dimer linked through catechin from Cowania mexicana

A new complex tannin, cowaniin (1) was isolated from the leaves and stems of Cowania mexicana (Rosaceae), and its structure was characterized as novel C-glucosidic tannin dimer linked through (+)-catechin on the basis of spectral and chemical evidence. The inhibitory effect on activation of the Epstein-Barr virus early antigen was assessed for cowaniin. Six known polyphenols and related compounds, including a nitrile glucoside, purshianin, were also characterized.     

Melophlins P, Q, R, and S: four new tetramic acid derivatives, from two Palauan marine sponges of the genus Melophlus

Four new tetramic acid derivatives, named melophlins P, Q, R, and S (1-4), were isolated from two marine sponges of the genus Melophlus collected at Palau, together with seven known melophlins A, D, E, G, H, I, and O. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of their spectral data. The absolute stereochemistries at the tetramic acid moieties of the new compounds were determined as 1 : 1 mixtures (racemic) by ESI-LC/MS analysis of derivatives obtained by oxidation and hydrolysis of the respective parent compounds. Melophlins P-S (1-4) showed cytotoxicity against the murine leukemia cell line L1210 with IC(50) values of 20.0, 10.5, 0.85, and 5.13 muM, respectively.
