Transport of yttrium(III) from nitrate medium through liquid membrane containing tri-n-octyl-phosphine oxide (TOPO) in n-dodecane, supported on a nucleoporous filter, into a strip solution with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) has been studied. The kinetic dependences of transport were obtained and compared with a model, resulting in calculation of permeability coeffients and initial fluxes of yttrium. Optimized geometries and electronic structures of hydrogenated silicon nanoclusters, which include the Td and Ih symmetries, have been generated by using the semiempirical AM1 and PM3 methods, the density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP method with the 6-31G(d) and LANL2DZ basis sets from the Gaussian 03 package, and the local density functional approximation (LDA), which is implemented in the SIESTA package. The calculated diameters for these Td symmetric hydrogenated silicon nanoclusters are in the range from 6.61 A (Si5H12) to 23.24 A (Si281H172). For the Ih symmetry, we calculated Si20H20 and Si100H60 nanoclusters only. Theoretically, the energy gap between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) is size dependent. The calculated energy gap decreases (Si5H12: 7.65 eV to Si281H172: 3.06 eV) while the diameter of silicon nanocluster increases. By comparing different calculated results, we concluded that the calculated energy gap by B3LYP/6-31G(d)//LDA/SIESTA is close to that from experiment and that the LDA/SIESTA result underestimates the experimental value. On the contrary, the AM1 and PM3 results overestimate the experimental results. For investigation of the optical properties of Si nanoclusters as a function of surface passivation, we carried out a B3LYP/6-31G(d)//LDA/SIESTA calculation of the Si35 and Si47 core clusters with full alkyl-, OH-, NH2-, CH2NH2-, OCH3-, SH-, C3H6SH-, and CN- passivations. The calculated optical properties of alkyl passivated Si35 nanoclusters (Si35(CH3)36, Si35(C2H5)36, and Si35(C3H7)36) are close to one another and are higher than those of oxide, nitride, and sulfide passivated Si 35 clusters. In conclusion, the alkyl passivant affects weakly the calculated optical gaps, and the electron-withdrawing passivants generate a red-shift in the energy gap of silicon nanoclusters. Mineral sands are mined in several countries to supply to the titanium and zircon producing industries. Coastal black mineral sands usually contain, besides ilmenite (FeTiO3) and rutile (TiO2), radioactive minerals such as zircon (ZrSiO4) and monazite (RePO4). Radon and thoron activity concentration originated from natural radioactive contents of the black mineral sand was monitored at the extraction and processing for black minerals in the coastal areas of Ha Tinh Province, one of the around 40 coastal mineral sand deposits in Vietnam. The survey was carried out with the Raduet chambers made by Radosys Ltd—Hungary. The obtained results for 25 investigated points show that the measured values are not high in the residential houses and in case of the sand extraction site as well. At the titanium processing plant the measured values were higher than outside the facility (Radon: 18–55 Bq/m3 with average of 34 Bq/3 and Thoron 33–118 Bq/m3 with average of 58 Bq/m3) but still comparable to the average concentration of the world published by UNSCEAR. The typical outdoor levels of radon and thoron gas are each of the order of 10 Bq/m3. Although the radon concentrations were low in the zircon and titanium processing plants, the thoron concentrations in the houses for separating rutile and zircon were very high. At zircon processing factory, the thoron concentration could reach 2,931 Bq/m3 and the estimated annual effective dose would be 21.4 mSv/a. Intervention has to be taken in order to reduce the thoron level in this factory since the level of thoron and its progenies corresponding to an annual occupational effective dose is beyond the action level of 6 mSv/a. 相似文献
