Summary The kinetics of reduction of ruthenium(III) by sodium tetrahydroborate in aqueous acidic medium have been studied. The effect of variation in the concentration of substrate (RuCl3·3H2O), pH, and reductant (BH4 –1) has been studied. The activation parameters were evaluated. Based on a one-electron transfer, the mechanism involves the reduction of ruthenium(III) by hydrogen.  相似文献

Time evolution of various reactivity parameters such as electronegativity, hardness, and polarizability associated with a collision process between a proton and an X- atom/ion (X = He, Li(+), Be(2+), B(3+), C(4+)) in its ground ((1)S) and excited((1)P,(1)D,(1)F) electronic states as well as various complexions of a two-state ensemble is studied using time-dependent and excited-state density functional theory. This collision process may be considered to be a model mimicking the actual chemical reaction between an X-atom/ion and a proton to give rise to an XH(+) molecule. A favorable dynamical process is characterized by maximum hardness and minimum polarizability values according to the dynamical variants of the principles of maximum hardness and minimum polarizability. An electronic excitation or an increase in the excited-state contribution in a two-state ensemble makes the system softer and more polarizable, and the proton, being a hard acid, gradually prefers less to interact with X as has been discerned through the drop in maximum hardness value and the increase in the minimum polarizability value when the actual chemical process occurs. Among the noble gas elements, Xe is the most reactive. During the reaction: H(2) + H(+) --> H(3)(+) hardness maximizes and polarizability minimizes and H(2) is more reactive in its excited state. Regioselectivity of proton attack in the O-site of CO is clearly delineated wherein HOC(+) may eventually rearrange itself to go to the thermodynamically more stable HCO(+).  相似文献

A new alternative system for the oxidation of secondary alcohols to ketones with DMSO/N2H4.H2O/I2/H2O/CH3CN in hydrated media has been developed. The system also selectively oxidizes the secondary alcoholic groups to the corresponding ketones in the presence of primary alcoholic groups present within the same molecule in moderate to very good yields at reflux temperature.  相似文献

Adiabatic electron affinities, optimized molecular geometries, and IR-active vibrational frequencies have been predicted for small cyclic hydrocarbon radicals C(n)H(2)(n)(-)(1) (n = 3-6) and their perfluoro counterparts C(n)F(2)(n)(-)(1) (n = 3-6). Total energies and optimized geometries of the radicals and corresponding anions have been obtained using carefully calibrated (Chem. Rev. 2002, 102, 231) density functional methods, namely, the B3LYP, BLYP, and BP86 functionals in conjunction with the DZP++ basis set. The predicted electron affinities show that only the cyclopropyl radical tends to bind electrons among the hydrocarbon radicals studied. The trend for the perfluorocarbon (PFC) radicals is quite different. The electron affinities increase with expanding ring size until n = 5 and then slightly decrease at n = 6. Predicted electron affinities of the hydrocarbon radicals using the B3LYP hybrid functional are 0.24 eV (C(3)H(5)/C(3)H(5)(-)), -0.19 eV (C(4)H(7)/C(4)H(7)(-)), -0.15 eV (C(5)H(9)/C(5)H(9)(-)), and -0.11 eV (C(6)H(11)/C(6)H(11)(-)). Analogous electron affinities of the perflurocarbon radicals are 2.81 eV (C(3)F(5)/C(3)F(5)(-)), 3.18 eV (C(4)F(7)/C(4)F(7)(-)), 3.34 eV (C(5)F(9)/C(5)F(9)(-)), and 3.21 eV (C(6)F(11)/C(6)F(11)(-)).  相似文献

Optics has already showed its potency over its electronic complements in case of superfast computing and communication systems. Semiconductor optical amplifier, (SOA) with its several nonlinear properties, plays a very crucial role in the development of high-speed all-optical processor. Multiplexer and demultiplexer are the extremely important element of the processor which takes part in utilizing different actions like encoding, decoding, routing, and the different process of data conversion and generation, etc. In this paper, the authors have proposed a scheme of phase encoded all-optical phase multiplexer using four wave mixing (FWM) property of semiconductor optical amplifier. Thus, the improved tolerance against fiber-nonlinearity and higher receiver sensitivity of phase encoding method with the fast occurring processes like FWM in SOA offers higher speed in this proposed scheme of multiplexing.  相似文献

Size distributions of nanoparticles in the vicinity of synthesis reactors will provide guidelines for safe operation and protection of workers. Nanoparticle concentrations and size distributions were measured in a research academic laboratory environment with two different types of gas-phase synthesis reactors under a variety of operating conditions. The variation of total particle number concentration and size distribution at different distances from the reactor, off-design state of the fume hood, powder handling during recovery, and maintenance of reactors are established. Significant increases in number concentration were observed at all the locations during off-design conditions (i.e., failure of the exhaust system). Clearance of nanoparticles from the work environment was longer under off-design conditions (20 min) compared to that under normal hood operating conditions (4–6 min). While lower particle number concentrations are observed during operation of furnace aerosol reactors in comparison to flame aerosol reactors, the handling, processing, and maintenance operations result in elevated concentrations in the work area.  相似文献

Accurate determination of both fundamental and optical gap is necessary for designing molecules relevant for organic photovoltaics. Here, we study how range-separated density functionals reproduce frontier orbital energies, HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital)–LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) gaps, and optical gaps for molecules relevant for organic photovoltaics. In this study, we consider 12 different range-separated density functional for computing HOMO energy, HOMO–LUMO gap, and optical gap which are compared with available experimental and reported GW values. We found that the reproduction of desired photovoltaic properties primarily depend on range separation parameter. Moreover, the tested functionals are comparable with OT-BNL functional.  相似文献

The article reports on the wetting properties of silicon-based materials as a function of their roughness and chemical composition. The investigated surfaces consist of hydrogen-terminated and chemically modified atomically flat crystalline silicon, porous silicon and silicon nanowires. The hydrogenated surfaces are functionalized with 1-octadecene or undecylenic acid under thermal conditions. The changes occurring upon surface functionalization are characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectroscopy and water contact angle measurements. By increasing the surface roughness, the static water contact angle increases. The combination of high surface roughness with chemical functionalization with water repellent coating (1-octadecene) enables reaching superhydrophobicity (water contact angle greater than 150°) for silicon nanowires.  相似文献
