Observation of zero current density in the core of jet discharges with lower hybrid heating and current drive

Simultaneous current ramping and application of lower hybrid heating and current drive (LHCD) have produced a region with zero current density within measurement errors in the core ( r/a< or =0.2) of JET tokamak optimized shear discharges. The reduction of core current density is consistent with a simple physical explanation and numerical simulations of radial current diffusion including the effects of LHCD. However, the core current density is clamped at zero, indicating the existence of a physical mechanism which prevents it from becoming negative.     

Detection and purification of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, malic enzyme, and NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase by blue native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis

We describe a blue native polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic technique that allows the facile detection, quantitation and purification of three NADPH-producing enzymes. Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, malic enzyme and NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase were detected simultaneously. Activity staining based on the formation of NADPH from the respective substrates and the subsequent precipitation of formazan enabled the relative quantitation of enzymatic activities, while Coomassie staining on one-dimensional or two-dimensional gels helped monitor the amount of protein associated with these enzymatic activities. This technique provides a simple and effective route to obtain homogeneous protein for further analyses and also enables the screening of these NADPH-producing enzymes in various cellular systems.     

FTIR Emission Spectra, Molecular Constants, and Potential Curve of Ground State GeO

Extensive new high-temperature, high-resolution FTIR emission spectroscopy measurements for the five common isotopomers of GeO are combined with previous diode laser and microwave measurements in combined isotopomer analyses. New Dunham expansion parameters and an accurate analytical potential energy function are determined for the ground X1Sigma+ state. Copyright 1999 Academic Press.     

Antibacterial Drug Release Electrochemically Stimulated by the Presence of Bacterial Cells – Theranostic Approach

A modified electrode with bioaffinity to E. coli bacterial cells was used to detect bacteria presence on its surface and to produce an electrical signal triggering antibacterial drug release from another coupled electrode. The Sense‐and‐Treat system was realized in two different versions and suggested as the first step to future theranostic applications where bacteria presence results in automatic antibacterial treatment.
