Abstract— This Technical Note describes the design of a photothermal beam deflection apparatus which allows the easy and rapid measurement of thermal dissipation of absorbed light energy in various photosynthetic materials including whole plant leaves. This system is based on the "mirage effect" in which the refractive index gradient induced in a fluid in contact with the sample, irradiated with an intensity-modulated light, causes the periodic deflection of a laser beam parallel to the sample surface. The deflection of the probe laser beam is detected by a position sensor, the output of which is processed by a lock-in amplifier. Photothermal deflection signals can be monitored in vivo in intact leaves placed in various (liquid or gaseous) environments with a satisfactory signal-to-noise ratio between 100 (in water) and 50 (in air) at low modulation frequencies (ca 30 Hz). It is shown that this new and simple photothermal technique is a very sensitive tool for the measurement of absorption spectra of photosynthetic pigments both in vivo (leaves, algae or chloroplasts) and in model systems (Langmuir-Blodgett and solid films of chlorophyll).  相似文献

In the recovery of acids from wastewaters or the regeneration of acids and bases from salts by electromembrane processes, the most important phenomenon which limits the current efficiency is the transport of protons through the anion-exchange membrane (AEM). In this work, the proton leakage through an AEM is studied with a system containing hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid on the cathodic side and the mixture of acid with one homoanionic salt (Li+, Na+, K+, Cr3+, NH4+, (CH3)4N+ and (C2H5)4N+) on the anodic side. The proton leakage is quantified from the value of the proton transport number. The results are analyzed assuming that the rate determining step of proton leakage is the interfacial transfer reaction of protons from the aqueous anodic solution to the membrane. The proton leakage is enhanced by the polarizing power of the cation. The transfer of protons into the membrane seems to be catalyzed by the presence of a layer of adsorbed cations on the surface of the membrane. The presence of salt decreases the proton leakage but it is always greater with H2SO4 solutions compared to HCl solutions.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine a simple routine procedure to preserve, decarbonate and analyse low-carbonated filters of suspended particulate organic matter (POM) for particulate organic carbon and nitrogen content, and . Our goal was to analyse these four parameters from a single and entire filter of POM without altering the organic material.First, freezing (−20 °C) versus oven-drying (60 °C) were compared as the initial preservation step. Afterwards, non-acidified samples were compared to acid-treated samples using 0.12N HCl (diluted HCl rinsing at the end of the filtration) or 12N HCl (filters exposed to HCl fumes for 4 h in a dessicator). Regarding the preservation methods, our results indicate that freezing increases the uncertainty of measurements and, in combination with concentrated HCl treatment, leads to a loss of particulate nitrogen and an alteration of the signature. Consequently, we recommend drying to preserve filter samples. Regarding acid treatments, we found that (i) diluted HCl would not be sufficient to fully remove the carbonate from our samples, (ii) in contrast, a 4 h exposure of the filters to the HCl fumes was enough to remove all the inorganic carbon, and (iii) the concentrated HCl treatment did not alter the nitrogen measurements (only when drying without freezing is used to preserve the filters). Consequently, we propose that low-carbonated POM filters are preserved by drying and carbonates are removed by exposing the filters to HCl fumes (4 h) for the analysis of particulate organic C and N content and isotope ratios.  相似文献

The proanthocyandin composition of skins and seeds of Bordeaux Merlot (M) and Cabernet Sauvignon (CS) grapes was evaluated by HPLC-UV-fluorescence for four consecutive vintages (2006 to 2009). The results indicated a strong vintage effect on the tannin profile of each variety. However, and in spite of the vintage effect, some tannin characteristics such as mDP, %G and %P allow discrimination of both Bordeaux varieties. The same analyses were carried out for the 2009 vintage of five Mediterranean grape varieties (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan and Counoise). The results demonstrated differences among these five varieties. Syrah appeared to exhibit the highest concentrations of flavanol monomers and dimmers, especially in skins. The comparison study between Bordeaux and Mediterranean grape varieties for the same vintage (2009) revealed that mDP and %G for seed extracts were parameters specific to each vineyard area.  相似文献

EDX and infrared photoluminescence (IR PL) analyses performed on erbium-doped porous silicon waveguides (PSWG) were studied using different doping conditions. Both parameters of the cathodisation electrochemical method used for Er incorporation and parameters of thermal treatments required for Er optical activation were taken into consideration. Firstly, by varying the current density and the time of cathodisation, we have shown that a current density of 0.1 mA/cm2 for 10 min allows homogeneous Er doping to be achieved throughout the depth of the guiding layer. Then, the PL intensity at 1.53 μm was studied as a function of the oxidation time at 900 °C and Er diffusion temperature for 60 min. Increasing the oxidation time up to 1 h allows PL to be enhanced due to active Si-O-Er complex formation whereas an oxidation time of 2 h induces a decrease in PL because of Er segregation. Moreover, an increase in the diffusion temperature induces an optimal distribution of optically active Si-Er-O complexes inside the crystallites. When the temperature is too high, a PSWG densification and Er segregation occurs inducing a decrease in PL due to energy transfer phenomena.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to understand the interrelations among relations within concrete social groups. Social structure is sought, not ideal types, although the latter are relevant to interrelations among relations. From a detailed social network, patterns of global relations can be extracted, within which classes of equivalently positioned individuals are delineated. The global patterns are derived algebraically through a ‘functorial’ mapping of the original pattern. Such a mapping (essentially a generalized homomorphism) allows systematically for concatenation of effects through the network. The notion of functorial mapping is of central importance in the ‘theory of categories,’ a branch of modern algebra with numerous applications to algebra, topology, logic. The paper contains analyses of two social networks, exemplifying this approach.  相似文献

An EPR study of Fe3+ centres in single crystal KTiOAsO4 (KTA) has been performed at the Q-band frequency. Two Fe3+ centres have been observed for which all spin-Hamiltonian parameters were calculated. The comparison of the pseudosymmetries obtained from fourth-order constants of the spin-Hamiltonian and from a fourth-order crystal field calculation for the two Ti-octahedra, allowed us to locate one Fe3+ at both Ti sites in KTA. The deviation from cubic symmetry is similar and not very large for the two centres showing that the charge compensation mechanism is not at short distance.  相似文献

In order to investigate the impact of microstructures and deformation mechanisms on the ductility of materials, the criterion first proposed by Rice is applied to elastic–plastic tangent moduli derived from a large strain micromechanical model combined with a self-consistent scale-transition technique. This approach takes into account several microstructural aspects for polycrystalline aggregates: initial and induced textures, dislocation densities as well as softening mechanisms such that the behavior during complex loading paths can be accurately described.  相似文献

Porous silicon (PS) is doped with erbium by electrochemical anodisation. The penetration of erbium into the PS layer is confirmed by Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) measurements. Efficient green and infrared emissions were observed at room temperature. The investigations are focused on the evolutions versus temperature and pump intensity of the green photoluminescence (PL) corresponding to the 4S3/2 → 4I15/2 transition. It was found that an erbium related level defect can be involved on the excitation and emission processes of erbium. Pump intensity dependent PL studies revealed that for the electrochemical incorporation, most of the Er3+ ions are localized inside the Si nanocrystallites and not in stoichiometric SiO2. The optical cross-section is close to that of erbium in Si nanocrystallites.  相似文献
