Preparation of Diazo Phenyl Sulfides. Kinetics and Mechanism of the Diazo Coupling Reaction of p-Nitrobenzenediazo Phenyl Sulfide with β-Naphthol under Various Conditions

Aryldiazophenyl sulfides prepared from diazotised arylamines and thiophenol at controlled pH, are coupled with β-naphthol yielding the corresponding azo dye. A kinetic study of the diazo coupling reaction of p-nitrobenzenediazo phenyl sulfide with β-naphthol under various conditions revealed that the reaction is of first order kinetics with respect to the diazo phenyl sulfide, and that the rate of coupling measured colorimetrically is influenced by the hydrogen ion concentration and by the ionising power of the medium.     

Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity of Some New 1,3-Diphenylpyrazoles Bearing Pyrimidine,Pyrimidinethione, Thiazolopyrimidine,Triazolopyrimidine, Thio-and Alkylthiotriazolop-Yrimidinone Moieties at the 4-Position

1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxaldehyde (1) reacted with ethyl cyanoacetate and thiourea to give the pyrimidinethione derivative 2. The reaction of 2 with some alkylating agents gave the corresponding thioethers 3a–e and 7. Thione 2 was cyclized to 5 and 6 upon a reaction with chloroacetic acid and with benzaldehyde, respectively. Thioether 3c was cyclized to 4 upon boiling with sodium acetate in ethanol, and 7 was cyclized to 8 upon boiling in an acetic anhydride-pyridine mixture. The hydrazino derivative 9 was prepared either by boiling 2 and/or 3a with hydrazine. The reaction of 9 with nitrous acid, acetylacetone, triethyl orthoformate, acetic anhydride, and carbon disulfide gave 10–14. The alkylation of 14 with ethyl iodide, phenacyl bromide, and ethyl chloroacetate afforded the alkythiotriazolo pyrimidinone derivatives 15a–c. The dialkyl derivative 16 was produced upon the treatment of 2 with two equivalents of ethyl iodide. Boiling 16 with hydrazine afforded the hydrazino 17. The reaction of 17 with nitrous acid, carbon disulfide, ethyl cyanoacetate, ethyl acetoacetae, and phenacyl bromide gave 18–22, respectively. Some of the newly obtained compounds were tested for their antibacterial and antifungal activities.     

Closed form solution to a second order boundary value problem and its application in fluid mechanics

The Adomian decomposition method is used by many researchers to investigate several scientific models. In this Letter, the modified Adomian decomposition method is applied to construct a closed form solution for a second order boundary value problem with singularity.     

Kinetic investigation of aquation of some Fe(II) Schiff base amino acid complexes

Kinetics of aquation of some Fe(II) Schiff base amino acid complexes was followed spectrophotometrically. The Schiff base ligands were derived from salicylaldehyde and isoleucine, leucine, serine, methionine, tryptophan, or histidine. The reaction was studied in aqueous media, aqua–propanol mixtures, and in the presence of different concentrations of KBr. Moreover, the activation parameters were calculated and discussed for structures and other physical properties observed. The reaction was acid catalyzed and the general rate equation was suggested as follows: rate = k_obs [complex], where k_obs = k₂ [H⁺]. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Separation of unitary representations of connected Lie groups by their moment sets

We show that every unitary representation π of a connected Lie group G is characterized up to quasi-equivalence by its complete moment set.Moreover, irreducible unitary representations π of G are characterized by their moment sets.     

Novel monofunctional and bifunctional boronic acid‐functionalized squarylium dyes as precolumn and on‐column labels for protein analysis by capillary electrophoresis with laser‐induced fluorescence

This article presents a continuous capillary electrophoresis with laser‐induced fluorescence (CE‐LIF) following spectral studies of the noncovalent interactions between novel Squarylium Boronic Acid 4 (SQ‐BA4) & Squarylium Diboronic Acid 2 (SQ‐DBA2) squarylium dyes and human serum albumin (HSA). Two protocols were used wherein the on‐column‐labeling protocol was found to be more sensitive than the precolumn one by showing a better enhancement in the peak area of the HSA–dye complex besides lower limits of detection (LODs) for HSA. Also, stability studies were conducted with or without HSA using precolumn‐labeling mode over one week exhibiting the superiority of SQ‐BA4 to SQ‐DBA2. Then, a mixture containing three model proteins, HSA, β‐lactoglobulin B, and transferrin, was labeled on‐column with both dyes and completely resolved by CE‐LIF after optimization of several parameters. Both dyes provided lower LODs for HSA than those of β‐lactoglobulin B and transferrin with higher sensitivities. In addition, the SQ‐BA4 dye showed again greater sensitivities with all the three proteins than SQ‐DBA2.

Reactions of 4-(2-aminothiazole-4-yl)-3-methyl-5-oxo-1-phenyl-2-pyrazoline. Synthesis of thiazolo[3,2- a ]pyrimidine and imidazo[2,1- b ]thiazole derivatives

4-(2-Aminothiazol-4-yl)-3-methyl-5-oxo-1-phenyl-2-pyrazoline was synthesized via the reaction of 4-bromoacetyl-3-methyl-5-oxo-1-phenyl-2-pyrazoline with thiourea [7] and was transformed to related fused heterocyclic systems. The antifungal and antibacterial studies revealed in some cases excellent biocidal properties.

Some of the synthesized compounds were screened as antibacterial agents.
