Surface segregation in blends of miscible amorphous polymers

The isothermal luminescence decay kinetics in near-surface nanolayers of plasma-activated bulk samples of amorphous polystyrene (PS) and poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) and their miscible blends with weight ratios PS/PPO of 75/25 and 50/50 has been studied at 77 K. The intensities of isothermal luminescence (I) of homopolymer and blend surfaces have been compared. It has been found that the ratio between the luminescence intensities for PS and PPO (I(PS)/I(PPO)) may be as high as 50, while the luminescence intensities for the PS–PPO blends are close to I(PPO). The results obtained indicate that the PPO concentration in the surface layers of the blends is higher than that in the bulk.     

The aza Arndt–Eistert reaction based on N-trifluoromethylsulfonylarenecarboximidoyl chlorides

The aza analogues of carboxylic acids chlorides containing the NSO₂CF₃ and NSO₂CH₃ groups instead of oxygen atom were used in the Arndt–Eistert reaction. It was found that N-trifluoromethylsulfonyl-(4-fluorophenyl)-carboximidoyl chloride 1 reacts with diazomethane vigorously even at ?70 °C with formation of 1-trifluoromethylsulfonylamino-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-2,3-dimorpholine-4-yl-propane 3, 2-trifluoromethylsulfonylamino-2-(4-fluorobenzyl)-7-oxa-4-azonia-spiro[3.5]nonane 4, 2-trifluoromethylsulfonylamino-2-(4-fluorobenzyl)-1,3-dimorpholine-4-yl-propane 5 and 1-trifluoromethylsulfonylamino-2-(4-fluorobenzyl)-2,3-dimorpholine-4-yl-propane 6. Reaction of N-methylsulfonylbenzcarboximidoyl chloride 8 with diazomethane proceeds at ?15 °C yielding 4-chloro-4-methylsulfonylaminomethyl-3-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazoline 9.     

(4+2) Dimerization of imides of arylmaleic acids in the presence of the 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole and 2,6-lutidine

Imides of arylmaleic acids in the presence of 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole underwent (4+2) dimerization under heating in chlorobenzene within 24 h to afford 1,2,3,3a,3b,4,5,6,6a,10b-decahydrobenzo[e]pyrrolo[3,4-g]isoindole-1,3,4,6-tetraones in good yields. It was established that during the heating of imides of arylmaleic acid in 2,6-lutidine at 100 °C the (4+2) dimerization products containing a lutidine fragment are obtained.     

A new approach to the synthesis of 4-(N-aryl)carbamoylmethyl-4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-ones

Reaction of N-aryl substituted maleimides with aliphatic ketazines leads to the formation of 4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-ones in moderate yields. The reaction proceeds through 1,4-addition of an azine to the maleimide double bond, as confirmed by separation of the corresponding adducts in some cases, which are then converted into 4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-ones. In addition, the solid-state synthesis of 4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-ones is demonstrated for the first time.     

Photoredox mediated annelation of iododifluoromethylated alcohols with 1,1-diarylethylenes

A method for the synthesis of 3,3-difluorotetrahydrofurans from iododifluoromethylated alcohols and 1,1-diarylethylenes is described. The reaction is performed under irradiation with 400?nm light emitting diodes in the presence of a cationic iridium(III) photocatalyst, [Ir(ppy)₂(dtbbpy)]PF₆, substoichiometric amounts of triphenylphosphine and sodium trifluoroacetate as a base.

Voltammetric detection of metals and metal compounds on surfaces following a new sampling technique using alkali amalgam droplets

We propose a new method for the voltammetric detection of metals and metal compounds on surfaces of sold materials. The method is based on the reduction of oxidized metal compounds using an alkali amalgam droplet, the dissolution of the metals in the amalgam droplet, finally followed by recording the voltammetric anodic dissolution of the metal. The sample collection and all the following steps, including the voltammetric measurement, are performed at the same site of the sample and without any temporal interruption as one and the same electrode system is used for all steps. The proposed method is as an easy to handle, non-destructive express analysis for a wide range of samples.
