Synthesis of O-maltosides and O-melibiosides of serine derivatives

An improved procedure for the synthesis of N-bromoacetyl-β-glycopyranosylamines, derivatives of mono- and disaccharides

An improved procedure for the synthesis of N-bromoacetyl--glycopyranosylamines from the corresponding -glycosylamines was developed. The procedure is applicable to a wide range of derivatives of monosaccharides (hexoses, 2-acetamido-2-deoxyhexoses, hexuronamides, and 6-deoxyhexoses) and some disaccharides. For the derivatives of pentoses and 2-deoxyhexoses, the use of the corresponding -glycosylammonium carbamates was found to be more convenient. N-Bromoacetyl--glycopyranosylamines derived from D-mannose, L-rhamnose, D-glucuronamide, 2-deoxy-D-arabino-hexose, 2-deoxy-D-lyxo-hexose, and melibiose were obtained for the first time.     

Conjugates of polyhedral boron compounds with carbohydrates

Conjugates of β-lactosylamine derivatives bearing terminal amino groups in aglycon with ortho-carboranylacetic acid were synthesized. Five glycoconjugates with spacers of different length (from 9 to 18 atoms) and hydrophilicity containing di-, tri-, and pentapeptide fragments constructed of glycine and serine residues and spacers incorporating ethylenediamine and tartaric acid or tertiary amine residues were prepared Dedicated to the memory of outstanding chemist and biochemist V. Volumetric determination of periodate ion after the oxidation of carbohydrates

Summary On the basis of a method previously known for inorganic mixtures, an accurate, rapid, and universal volumetric method for determining periodate ion after the oxidation of carbohydrates, including oligosaccharides and deoxy sugars, has been developed.     

Synthesis of β-<Emphasis Type="SmallCaps">d</Emphasis>-galactopyranosylamine derivatives with the terminal amino group in the spacer as mono-, di-, and trivalent ligands of galectins

Glycoclusters were obtained by N-alkylation of N-glycyl-β-d-galactopyranosylamine with N-chloroacetyl derivatives of β-d-galactopyranosylamine and N,N″-iminodiacetyl-di-β-d-galactopyranosylamine. The glycoclusters with two and three galactopyranosylamine residues and the monovalent ligand N-diglycyl-β-d-galactopyranosylamine with an amino group in the spacer are suitable for subsequent conjugation with carboxyl-containing physiologically active compounds.

New procedures have been developed for the synthesis of α-(2-formyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-substituted carboxylic acids, α-(2-R-aminomethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-substituted carboxylic acids, and 1,2-dihydropyrrolo-[1,2-a]pyrazin-3(4H)-ones on the basis of furfurol and α-amino acids.
