Simultaneous determination of cobalt,copper, iron and vanadium in crude petroleum oils by HPLC

Summary A method has been developed for the simultaneous formation and solvent extraction of cobalt (II), copper (II), iron (II) and vanadium (IV) complexes of bis (acetylpivalylmethane)ethylenediamine (H₂APM₂en) in methyl isobutyl ketone. The complexes are eluted from a reversed phase HPLC column with a mixture of methanol:water:acetonitrile and detection was at 260 nm. The method has been applied to the simultaneous determination of cobalt, copper, iron and vanadium in crude petroleum oils at the ng level.     

Simultaneous solvent extraction and high-performance liquid chromatographic determination of uranium, iron, nickel and copper in mineral ore samples and phosphate rock residues using N,N′-ethylenebis(salicylaldimine) as complexing reagent

The reagent N,N-ethylenebis(salicylaldimine) (H₂SA₂en) has been examined for precolumn derivatization, followed by solvent extraction in chloroform and HPLC determination of uranium, iron, nickel and copper on a Hypersil ODS 3 μm column. Complexes were eluted isocratically using a ternary mixture of methanol-acetonitrile-water and UV detection was at 260 nm. The detection limit was 12 ng/injection for each of the elements. The method has been applied for the determination of metals in mineral ore samples and phosphate rock residues. The results obtained are compared using atomic absorption.

Overlapping B3Π0u ← X1Σ g/+ and 1Π1u ← X1Σ g/+ non-radiative characteristic of Br2 vapour in the wavelength region 505–541 nm

The vibronic vapour phase photoacoustic spectrum of Br₂ in the wavelength region 505–541 nm (19796–18480 cm⁻¹) has been recorded using microphone as well as pump-probe method. Discrete vibronic bands superimposed on a monotonically increasing continuum background towards the dissociation limit results from the overlapping B ³Π _0u ^/+ ← X ¹Σ _g ^/+ and ¹Π_1u ← X ¹Σ _g ^/+ electronic transitions. Vibronic bands originating from υ″=0 have been used to estimate the relative rate of non-radiative relaxation as a function of the excited state B ³Π_0u vibrational quantum number υ′. A comparison with the optical absorption spectroscopy of Br₂ leads to the identification of three broad spectral regions between 505 and 541 nm (19796 and 18480 cm⁻¹) on the basis of different non-radiative relaxation processes.     

HPLC determination of copper(II), cobalt(II) and iron(II) in pharmaceutical preparations using 2-acetylpyridine-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone derivatizing agent

Summary Cu(II) Co(II) and Fe(II) in pharmaceutical preparations were determined using precolumn derivatization and solvent extraction with 2-acetylpyridine-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (APPT) as complexing reagent. Liquid chromatography (LC) was carried out on a reversed phase C-18, column. The complexes were eluted isocratically with acetonitrile-water containing sodium acetate and tetrabutyl ammonium bromide as ion-pairing agents. The results obtained were compared with those using atomic absorption.     

High performance liquid chromatographic separation and UV determination of cobalt, copper iron and platinum in pharmaceutical preparations using bis(isovalerylacetone)ethylenediimine as complexing reagent

The reagent bis(isovalerylacetone)ethylenediimine(H₂IVA₂en) has been examined for HPLC separation and UV determination of cobalt, copper, iron and platinum using off-line precolumn derivatization and extraction in chloroform. The complexes of cobalt(II), cobalt(III), iron(II), iron(III) and the reagent have been subsequently separated on a Microsorb C-18 column. The complexes were eluted isocratically using ternary mixtures of methanol/water/acetonitrile. Detection was achieved by UV monitoring. Detection limits for Co(II), Co(III), Fe(II) and Fe(III) were 2.5–5.0 ng/injection, based on 0.5–1.0 g/ml with 5 l/injection. The concentration of cobalt(II) and cobalt(III) in aqueous solution have been determined. The presence of oxovanadium(IV), platinum(II), and nickel(II) did not affect the determinations. The HPLC method developed has been applied to the determination of cobalt, copper, iron and platinum in pharmaceutical preparations at the 30 g/g to 15 mg/g level and the obtained results were compared to those of atomic absorption spectrometry.     

Simultaneous high performance liquid chromatographic determination of vanadium, nickel, iron and copper in crude petroleum oils using bis(acetylpivalylmethane)ethylenediimine as a complexing reagent

A method is described for the simultaneous high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) determination of copper, iron, nickel and vanadium, based on complexation of analytes by bis(acetylpivalylmethane)ethylenediimine (H(2)APM(2)en) followed by solvent extraction and HPLC separation on a reversed-phase. C-18, 5 microm column with UV detection at 260 nm. The method has been applied to the determination of metals in crude petroleum oils collected from the South Indus Basin oil fields. The results obtained are compared with those obtained by flame atomic absorption spectrometry.     

A new salicin derivative from the stem bark of Populus davidiana

Phytochemical study on the BuOH-soluble fraction of the stem bark of Populus davidiana resulted in the isolation of a new salicin derivative(1),named davidianoside.The structure was elucidated on the basis of extensive physicochemical and spectroscopic analyses.     

Effect of doping Ca on polaron hopping in LaSr2Mn2O7

From the transport studies in the bilayer manganites LaSr_2−x Ca _x Mn₂O₇, we have found the variable-range hopping model proposed by Viret et al to be inadequate to describe the transport of charge in these materials. The polarons appear to hop to their nearest neighbors with an activation energy, which in part is dependent on the magnetic interactions in the lattice.
