RADIATION CHEMISTRY OF AMINOALKYITHIOIS

Abstract

Radiation chemistry of aminoalkylthiols and some derivatives (aminoalkyl-S-thiophosphates and aminoalkyl-S-thiosulfates among which are most effective radioprotectors) in aqueous solutions has been studied in order to establish the relation between the structure of these compounds and their radiation-chemical properties. Increase in the number of methylene groups between the sulfur atom and nitrogen atom in the aminothiol molecule from 2 to 4 and substitution of the amino group hydrogene by an alkyl radical has been found to be without appreciable effect both on the “spectra” of radiolisis products and rate constants for interaction of H, e^? _aq and OH with aminothiols     

Lasing properties of 3CN coumarins

In this report the effects of 3CN substitutions on the spectral luminescence and lasing properties of oxy- and diethylaminocoumarins are studied. In both classes of coumarins the CN group decreases the tuning region of the maximum lasing wavelengths: in aminocoumarine as a result of decreased intermolecular interaction with the solvents, and in the oxy- as a result of a shift in the equilibrium of protolytic reactions towards anion forms. As a result, the lasing efficiency of anion forms of 3CN oxycoumarins increases. The lasing properties of aminocoumarins decrease with the given substitutions, while the probability increases for the formation of nonplanar molecular conformations.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 6, pp. 103–106, June, 1988.     

Hydrogen atom transfer reactions from the SH group of thiols to OH adducts to uracil during radiolysis

Electrical transport and magnetic ordering in R 2Ti3Ge4 (R=Dy, Ho and Er) compounds

New R ₂Ti₃Ge₄ (R=Dy, Ho and Er) intermetallic compounds have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction and low temperature ac magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power measurements were carried out. The compounds crystallize in the parent, Sm₅Ge₄-type orthorhombic structure (space group Pnma) and lanthanide contraction is observed as one moves along the rare-earth series. The changeover from paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase happens at low temperatures and the ordering temperature scales with the de Gennes factor. The electrical resistivity is metallic with a negative curvature above 100 K. Thermopower displays a weak maximum at temperatures less than 50 K signifying the possible phonon and magnon drag effects.     

Substituted 2-methyl- and 2-methylenindolines

Methods were developed to convert 1,2,3,3-tetramethyl-6-hydroxyindoline into coumarin dyes, in which the amino group is in the indoline system.
