Full- [six-dimensional (6-D)] and reduced-dimensional [five-dimensional (5-D)] quantum wave packet calculations have been performed for the title reaction to obtain reaction probabilities deriving from the ground rovibrational states of OH and CO with total angular momentum J = 0. Three potential energy surfaces (PES) are studied, namely, those of Bradley and Schatz (BS), Yu, Muckerman, and Sears (YMS), and Lakin, Troya, Schatz, and Harding (LTSH). 6-D calculations are performed only for the BS PES, while 5-D results are reported for all three PES'. The 6-D results obtained in the present work improve on those previously reported, since a larger vibrational basis and a better representation of the OH and CO bonds has been introduced. In particular, we now employ a generalized Lanczos-Morse discrete variable representation for both the OH and CO vibrations. In a further improvement, the generalized discrete variable representation of the CO vibration is based on different CO intramolecular potentials for the asymptotic and product grids employed in our projection formalism. This new treatment of the vibrational bases allows for a large reduction in computation time with respect to our previous implementation of the wave packet method, for a given level of accuracy. As a result, we have been able to extend the range of collision energies for which we can obtain converged 6-D results to a higher energy (0.8 eV) than was possible before (0.5 eV). The comparison of the new 6-D and previous 5-D results for the BS PES shows good agreement of the general trend in the reaction probabilities over all collision energies considered (0.1-0.8 eV), while our previous 6-D calculation showed reaction probabilities that differed from the 5-D results by up to 10% between 0.5 and 0.8 eV. The 5-D reaction probabilities reveal interesting trends for the different PES'. In particular, at low energies (< 0.2 eV) the LTSH PES gives rise to much larger reactivity than the other PES', while at high energies (> 0.3 eV) its reaction probability decreases with respect to the BS and YMS PES', being more than a factor of 2 smaller at 0.8 eV. A 5-D calculation on a modified version of the LTSH surface shows that the van der Waals interaction in the entrance channel, which is not correctly described in the other PES' is largely responsible for its larger reactivity at low energies. The large difference between the 5-D reaction probabilities for the YMS and LTSH PES' serves to emphasize the importance of the van der Waals interaction for the reactivity at low energies, because most of the stationary point energies on the YMS and LTSH PES are rather similar, being in line with high-level ab initio information.  相似文献

We perform six-dimensional (6D) quantum wavepacket calculations for H2 dissociatively adsorbing on Cu(100) from a variety of rovibrational initial states. The calculations are performed on a new potential energy surface (PES), the construction of which is also detailed. Reaction probabilities are in good agreement with experimental findings. Using a new flux analysis method, we calculate the reaction probability density as a function of surface site and collision energy, for a variety of initial states. This approach is used to study the effects of rotation and vibration on reaction at specific surface sites. The results are explained in terms of characteristics of the PES and intrinsically dynamic effects. An important observation is that, even at low collision energies, reaction does not necessarily proceed predominantly in the region of the minimum potential barrier, but can occur almost exclusively at a site with a higher barrier. This suggests that experimental control of initial conditions could be used to selectively induce reaction at particular surface sites. Our predictions for site-reactivity could be tested using contemporary experimental methods: The calculations predict that, for reacting molecules, there will be a dependence of the quadrupole alignment of j on the incident vibrational state, v. This is a direct result of PES topography in the vicinity of the preferred reaction sites of v = 0 and v = 1 molecules. Invoking detailed balance, evidence for this difference in preferred reaction site of v = 0 and 1 molecules could be obtained through associative desorption experiments.  相似文献

The electronic structure and the stability of both neutral and singly charged (TiO2)n clusters with n = 1-9 have been investigated using the density functional B3LYP/LANL2DZ method. The lowest-lying singlet clusters tend to form some compact structures with one or two terminal Ti-O bonds, which are about 1.4-2.5 eV more stable than the corresponding triplet structures. For the lowest-lying structures, strong infrared absorption lines at 988-1020 cm(-1) due to terminal Ti-O bonds and below 930 cm(-1) due to Ti-O-Ti bridging bonds may be observed, with some characteristic lines at 530-760 cm(-1) due to 3-fold coordinated O-atoms that are comparable with the spectra of rutile and anatase bulk. The holes and excited electrons within triplet structures tend to be localized on the least coordinated O- and Ti-atoms, respectively, with some exceptions possibly due to the electron-hole interaction. The extra electrons within (TiO2)n- clusters and the holes within (TiO2)n+ clusters show a clearer preference of location on the least coordinated Ti- and O-atoms, respectively. For the lowest-lying (TiO2)n clusters, the cluster formation energy per TiO2 unit and the electron affinity tend to increase whereas the ionization potential tends to decrease with the cluster size n. On the other hand, the singlet-triplet and HOMO-LUMO gaps represent the lower and upper limits of the TiO2 bulk band gaps, respectively. The theoretical results agree well with the available experimental data and may be helpful for understanding the chemistry of small (TiO2)n clusters.  相似文献

The widespread adoption of hydrogen as an energy carrier could bring significant benefits, but only if a number of currently intractable problems can be overcome. Not the least of these is the problem of storage, particularly when aimed at use onboard light-vehicles. The aim of this overview is to look in depth at a number of areas linked by the recently concluded HYDROGEN research network, representing an intentionally multi-faceted selection with the goal of advancing the field on a number of fronts simultaneously. For the general reader we provide a concise outline of the main approaches to storing hydrogen before moving on to detailed reviews of recent research in the solid chemical storage of hydrogen, and so provide an entry point for the interested reader on these diverse topics. The subjects covered include: the mechanisms of Ti catalysis in alanates; the kinetics of the borohydrides and the resulting limitations; novel transition metal catalysts for use with complex hydrides; less common borohydrides; protic-hydridic stores; metal ammines and novel approaches to nano-confined metal hydrides.

We report six-dimensional quantum dynamics calculations of the dissociative scattering of molecular hydrogen from the copper111 surface. Two potential energy surfaces are investigated and the results are compared with experiment. Our study completes the preliminary work of Somers et al. [Chem. Phys. Lett. 360, 390 (2002)] and focuses on the role of initial vibrational excitation and on isotopic effects. None of the two investigated potential energy surfaces is found satisfactory: the use of neither potential yields reaction and vibrational excitation probabilities and vibrational efficacies that are in close agreement with experiment. In addition to showing the shortcomings of existing potential energy surfaces we point out an inconsistency in the experimental fits for D2.  相似文献

Based on a slab model of H(2) dissociation on a c(2 × 2) structure with Ti atoms in the first and third layers of Al(100), a six-dimensional (6D) potential energy surface (PES) has been built. In this PES, a molecular adsorption well with a depth of 0.45 eV is present in front of a barrier of height 0.13 eV. Using this PES, H(2) dissociation probabilities are calculated by the classical trajectory (CT), the quasiclassical trajectory (QCT), and the time-dependent wave-packet (TDWP) method. The QCT study shows that trajectories can be trapped by the molecular adsorption well. Higher incident energy can lead to direct H(2) dissociation. Vibrational pre-excitation is the most efficient way to promote direct dissociation without trapping. We find that both rotational and vibrational excitation have efficacies close to 1.0 in the entire range of incident energies investigated, which supports the randomization in the initial conditions making the reaction rate solely dependent on the total (internal and translational) energy. The H(2) dissociation probabilities from quantum dynamics are in reasonable agreement with the QCT results in the energy range 50-200 meV, except for some fluctuations. However, the TDWP results considerably exceed the QCT results in the energy range 200-850 meV. The CT reaction probabilities are too low compared with the quantum dynamical results.  相似文献

We present the results of classical dynamics calculations performed to study the photodissociation of water in crystalline and amorphous ice surfaces at a surface temperature of 10 K. A modified form of a recently developed potential model for the photodissociation of a water molecule in ice [S. Andersson et al., Chem. Phys. Lett. 408, 415 (2005)] is used. Dissociation in the top six monolayers is considered. Desorption of H(2)O has a low probability (less than 0.5% yield per absorbed photon) for both types of ice. The final outcome strongly depends on the original position of the photodissociated molecule. For molecules in the first bilayer of crystalline ice and the corresponding layers in amorphous ice, desorption of H atoms dominates. In the second bilayer H atom desorption, trapping of the H and OH fragments in the ice, and recombination of H and OH are of roughly equal importance. Deeper into the ice H atom desorption becomes less important and trapping and recombination dominate. Motion of the photofragments is somewhat more restricted in amorphous ice. The distribution of distances traveled by H atoms in the ice peaks at 6-7 Angstroms with a tail going to about 60 Angstroms for both types of ice. The mobility of OH radicals is low within the ice with most probable distances traveled of 2 and 1 Angstrom for crystalline and amorphous ices, respectively. OH is, however, quite mobile on top of the surface, where it has been found to travel more than 80 Angstroms. Simulated absorption spectra of crystalline ice, amorphous ice, and liquid water are found to be in very good agreement with the experiments. The outcomes of photodissociation in crystalline and amorphous ices are overall similar, but with some intriguing differences in detail. The probability of H atoms desorbing is 40% higher from amorphous than from crystalline ice and the kinetic-energy distribution of the H atoms is on average 30% hotter for amorphous ice. In contrast, the probability of desorption of OH radicals from crystalline ice is much higher than that from amorphous ice.  相似文献

Here, we give a full account of a large collaborative effort toward an atomic-scale understanding of modern industrial ammonia production over ruthenium catalysts. We show that overall rates of ammonia production can be determined by applying various levels of theory (including transition state theory with or without tunneling corrections, and quantum dynamics) to a range of relevant elementary reaction steps, such as N(2) dissociation, H(2) dissociation, and hydrogenation of the intermediate reactants. A complete kinetic model based on the most relevant elementary steps can be established for any given point along an industrial reactor, and the kinetic results can be integrated over the catalyst bed to determine the industrial reactor yield. We find that, given the present uncertainties, the rate of ammonia production is well-determined directly from our atomic-scale calculations. Furthermore, our studies provide new insight into several related fields, for instance, gas-phase and electrochemical ammonia synthesis. The success of predicting the outcome of a catalytic reaction from first-principles calculations supports our point of view that, in the future, theory will be a fully integrated tool in the search for the next generation of catalysts.  相似文献
