Results from Super-Kamiokande-I’s entire 1496 live days of solar neutrino data are presented, including the absolute flux,
energy spectrum, zenith angle (day/night) and seasonal variation. The possibility of MSW and vacuum oscillations is discussed
in light of these results. Results from the first 1289 days of Super-K-I’s atmospheric neutrino analysis are also presented,
including the evidence for νμ →ν
τ oscillations, against νμ → νsterile oscillations, and the current limits on proton decay. Finally, results based on 56 × 1019 protons on target are given for the K2K long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. 相似文献

We have previously used chlorophyll fluorescence measurements at Fmax conditions (i.e. with Photosystem II electron acceptor QA reduced) to monitor the action of 9,10-anthraquinones on photosynthetic electron transport in plant chloroplasts. The present investigation employs two additional techniques to characterize the extent of electron transport inhibition induced by the addition of substituted anthraquinones to the suspending medium of spinach chloroplasts. Results are presented for spectrophotometric assays of the rate of electron transfer to an exogenous electron acceptor, 2,6-dichloroindophenol (DCIP) and for electrochemical determinations of the rate of oxygen evolution in anthraquinone-treated chloroplasts. In general, amino-substituted anthraquinones are ineffective inhibitors, maintaining electron transfer rates to DCIP at levels ranging from 50 to 90% of normal rates and yielding rates of O2 evolution averaging at 70% of the rate in untreated chloroplasts. In contrast, hydroxy-substituted anthraquinones efficiently block Photosystem II electron transport, resulting in low rates of DCIP photoreduction ranging from 0 to 20% of normal values and reducing O2 evolution rates to an average of 30% of the rate observed for untreated chloroplasts. Relative rates of DCIP photoreduction for anthraquinone-treated chloroplasts show a strong linear correlation with the reported relative Fmax chlorophyll fluorescence intensities. Relative O2 evolution rates are observed to correlate with the Stern-Volmer fluorescence quenching parameter Ksv. We suggest that slight differences in the extent of inhibitory activity of an anthraquinone as measured by the three techniques are consistent with certain known Photosystem II heterogeneities. The similarities in relative rankings of inhibitory effects for the 9, 10-anthraquinones, however, demonstrate that the three techniques employed (measurements of Fmax chlorophyll fluorescence, DCIP photoreduction rates, and O2 evolution rates) are alternative assays of anthraquinone-induced Photosystem II electron transport inhibition. 相似文献

We have characterized a new class of surfactant molecules using fluorescence spectroscopic and light-scattering techniques. Our results suggest that this homologous series of N-alkyl-N-methlypyrrolidinium bromide (CnMPB) surfactants with n = 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 represents a bridge between the well-characterized alkyltrimethylammonium bromide (CnTAB) and dialkyldimethylammonium bromide (di-CnDAB) surfactant series. For the smaller members of the CnMPB series with n = 10, 12, and 14, our results are consistent with the formation of spherical micelles as the surfactant concentration is increased. With increasing alkyl chain length, we observe that the critical micelle concentration decreases and the aggregation number increases, typical of single-tail surfactants. For C16MPB, the formation of micelles at dilute concentrations (0.10 mM) is likely, followed by the coexistence of micelles and small unilamellar vesicles at higher concentrations up to 0.82 mM where only vesicles are present. For C18MPB, our data are consistent with the formation of vesicles only. We demonstrate in this study that the combination of spectroscopic and light-scattering methods is a powerful approach to reveal aspects of aggregate structure and morphology in aqueous CnMPB surfactant systems. In particular, the sensitivity of the fluorescence probe prodan to the polarity of its microenvironment enables the rich complexity of surfactant aggregates exhibited by this series of amphiphilic molecules to be detected. 相似文献

Rare earth element substituted bismuth ferrites (BiFeO3) are of enormous importance as magnetoelectric materials. The polycrystalline samples of Bi
x
La1−x
FeO3 (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) were prepared by solid-state reaction using standard ceramic method. The single-phase formation of
these compounds was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. The samples with x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 are found to be orthorhombic while the sample with x=0.8 is triclinic. The dielectric constant (ε′) and dissipation factor (tan δ) were measured in the frequency range 100 Hz
to 1 MHz at room temperature and as a function of temperature at certain fixed frequencies (1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz, 1 MHz).
All the samples showed dielectric dispersion. The dielectric constant with temperature shows a broad peak; the peak temperature
shifts with frequency which reflects the relaxor-type behavior. The peak above 600 K in the measured temperature range corresponds
to antiferromagnetic ordering temperature (Néel temperature). The broadness of the peak changes with composition. The ac conductivity
as well as ε′ are found to be maximum for the sample x=0.2 at room temperature. 相似文献

CoFe2O4-BaTiO3 composites were prepared using conventional ceramic double sintering process with various compositions. Presence of two phases
in the composites was confirmed using X-ray diffraction. The dc resistivity and thermoemf as a function of temperature in

A key feature of amphiphilic molecules is their ability to undergo self-assembly, a process in which a complex hierarchical structure is established without external intervention. Ternary systems consisting of aqueous mixtures of cationic and anionic surfactants exhibit a rich array of self-assembled microstructures such as spherical and rodlike micelles, unilamellar and multilamellar vesicles, planar bilayers, and bicontinuous structures. In general, multiple complementary techniques are required to explore the phase behavior and morphology of aqueous systems of oppositely charged surfactants. As a novel and effective alternative approach, we use fluorescence spectroscopic measurements to examine the microstructures of aqueous cationic/anionic surfactant systems in the dilute surfactant region. In particular, we demonstrate that the polarity-sensitive fluorophore prodan can be used to demarcate the surfactant microstructures of the ternary system of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, sodium octyl sulfate, and water. As the fluorescence signature of this probe is dependent on the nature of the surfactant aggregates present, our method is a promising new approach to effectively map complex surfactant phase diagrams. 相似文献

Inertial confinement fusion, frequently referred to as ICF, inertial fusion, or laser fusion, is a means of producing energy
by imploding small hollow microspheres containing thermonuclear fusion fuel. Polymer microspheres, which are used as fuel
containers, can be produced by solution-based micro-encapsulation technique better known as density-matched emulsion technique. The specifications of these microspheres are very rigorous, and various aspects of the emulsion hydrodynamics associated
with their production are important in controlling the final product. This paper describes about the optimization of various
parameters associated with density-matched emulsion method in order to improve the surface smoothness, wall thickness uniformity
and sphericity of hollow polymer microspheres. These polymer microshells have been successfully fabricated in our lab, with
3–30 μm wall thickness and 50–1600 μm diameters. The sphericity and wall thickness uniformity are better than 99%. Elimination
of vacuoles and high yield rate has been achieved by adopting the step-wise heating of W1/O/W2 emulsion for solvent removal. 相似文献

The UV–vis absorption properties of azo dyes are known to exhibit a variation with the polarity and acidity of the dye environment. The spectral properties of a series of anionic azo dyes were characterized to further probe the interaction of these dyes with two types of surfactant aggregates: (1) the spherical micelles formed in aqueous solution by alkyltrimethylammonium bromide (CnTAB) surfactants with n = 10–16 and (2) the unilamellar vesicles spontaneously formed in water from binary mixtures of the oppositely-charged double-tailed surfactants cationic didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB) and anionic sodium dioctylsulfosuccinate (Aerosol OT or AOT). The observed dye spectra reflect the solvatochromic behavior of the dyes and suggest the location and orientation of the dye within the surfactant aggregates. Deconvolution of the overall spectra into sums of Gaussian curves more readily displays any contributions of tautomeric forms of the azo dyes resulting from intramolecular hydrogen bonding. The rich variation in UV/vis absorption properties of these anionic azo dyes supports their use as sensitive tools to explore the nanostructures of surfactant aggregates. 相似文献
