Summary Optically pure (+)-beta-eudesmol is a possible starting material for the synthesis of several termite defense compounds. A two step procedure for the isolation of gram quantities of (+)-beta-eudesmol from commercially availableAmyris balsamifera oil (syn. West Indian sandalwood oil), containing 8% beta-eudesmol, was developed. Step one consisted of an efficient vacuum distillation of the total oil. Step two was a medium pressure LC separation with an AgNO3 impregnated silica gel stationary phase. Several other separation procedures failed due to the presence of many closely related sesquiterpene alcohols (75% of the oil).  相似文献

A modular subatmospheric electrospray interface with fiber optic UV detection close to the electrospray tip was developed for coupling of microcolumn separation techniques with mass spectrometry. The interface was based on a liquid junction with a removable microelectrospray tip. The electrospray tip was enclosed in a subatmospheric chamber attached in front of the sampling orifice of the mass spectrometer. The inlet of the liquid junction was maintained at atmospheric pressure, and thus no pressure drop developed across the separation column. The flow rate of the electrosprayed liquid from the liquid junction reservoir was adjusted by the pressure in the electrospray chamber. In this approach, a continuous and stable electrospray could be achieved without the use of an external pump. Since the electrospray did not depend on fluid delivery from the separation column, coated capillaries without electroosmotic flow as well as capillaries with electroosmotic flow could be used for capillary electrophoresis. In addition, the interface was found to be effective with capillary liquid chromatography. The use of a fiber optic UV detector placed close to the exit of the separation column provided additional detection information and a simple means of troubleshooting. The interface did not significantly influence the quality of the separation, even with columns generating several hundred thousand theoretical plates. Peptide samples in the submicromolar concentration range were detected, corresponding to a limit of detection in the attomole range.  相似文献

Summary The use of gas chromatography to measure adsorption and partition phenomena of nonelectrolytes with aqueous tetralkylammonium bromide solutions is described. Experimental details are presented, and potential sources of error are discussed. Adsorption coefficients for a series of hydrocarbons are found to be larger on the salt solutions than for water itself. Moreover, the expected increase in partition coefficients with the salt solutions relative to bulk water is shown.This paper was presented at the Table rounde sur les mesures physicochimiques par chromatographie en phase gazeuse, organized by Dr. Robin at the I. Fixed-size moving window evolving factor analysis and base peak chromatograms have been used for peak purity detection in data generated with LC-MS. The two methods were evaluated with both real and simulated data and were found to be fast and complementary to each other. When a possibly impure peak is detected, it is suggested that further information can be obtained from local principal component analysis modelling and comparative mass chromatogram plots.  相似文献

The access to self-diffusion coefficients in anisotropic systems such as thermotropic liquid crystals by means of PFG NMR is complicated by strong dipolar interactions. Additionally, problems arise due to the immediate orientation of low-molar-mass nematic liquid crystals in an external field. The director orientation can be changed by the application of an additional electric field. This can be exploited in order to reduce the dipolar interaction to such an extent that the NMR linewidths change from a solid-state to a liquid-like situation enabling PFG NMR experiments.  相似文献

Plasma wakefield accelerators offer accelerating and focusing electric fields three to four orders of magnitude larger than state-of-the-art radiofrequency cavity-based accelerators. Plasma photocathodes can release ultracold electron populations within such plasma waves and thus open a path toward tunable production of well-defined, compact electron beams with normalized emittance and brightness many orders of magnitude better than state-of-the-art. Such beams will have far-reaching impact for applications such as light sources, but also open up new vistas on high energy and high field physics. This paper reviews the innovation of plasma photocathodes, and reports on the experimental progress, challenges, and future prospects of the approach. Details of the proof-of-concept demonstration of a plasma photocathode in 90° geometry at SLAC FACET within the E-210: Trojan Horse program are described. Using this experience, alongside theoretical and simulation-supported advances, an outlook is given on future realizations of plasma photocathodes such as the upcoming E-310: Trojan Horse-II program at FACET-II with prospects toward excellent witness beam parameter quality, tunability, and stability. Future installations of plasma photocathodes also at compact, hybrid plasma wakefield accelerators, will then boost capacities and open up novel capabilities for experiments at the forefront of interaction of high brightness electron and photon beams.  相似文献
