Morphological variation in a toroid generated from a single polymer chain

A single semiflexible polymer chain folds into a toroidal object under poor solvent conditions. In this study, we examined the morphological change in such a toroidal state as a function of the cross-sectional area and stiffness of the chain together with the surface energy, which characterizes the segmental interaction parameter. Changes in the thickness and outer/inner radius on a toroid are interpreted in terms of these parameters. Our theoretical expectation corresponds to the actual morphological changes in a single giant DNA molecule as observed by electron microscopy.     

Synthesis and antiulcer activity of optical isomers of 2-(4-chlorobenzoylamino)-3-[2(1H)-quinolinon-4-yl]propionic acid (rebamipide).

The enantiomers of 2-(4-chlorobenzoylamino)-3-[2(1H)-quinolinon-4-yl] propionic acid [(+/-)-1, rebamipide, OPC-12759], a new antiulcer agent that enhances mucosal resistance, were synthesized from optically active alpha-amino acid derivatives of 2(1H)-quinolinone. The key intermediates, alpha-amino acid derivatives, were prepared by asymmetric synthesis and optical resolution. The (+)-1 was about 1.7 times as potent as the (-)-isomer in antiulcer activity against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers.     

Development of a Diamond Nanoparticles-based Nanosensor for Detection and Determination of Antiviral Drug Favipiravir

This study developed a nanosensor for the detection and determination of favipiravir, a presumed drug that has potential therapeutic efficacy in treating COVID-19 patients, from tablets and serum samples. This nanosensor was obtained by adding the optimum amount of diamond nanoparticles into carbon paste. For the determination of favipiravir adsorptive stripping differential pulse (AdSDPV) and adsorptive stripping square wave voltammetry (AdSSWV) were used. Limit of detection values were found as 4.83×10⁻⁹ M and 2.44×10⁻⁷ M for bulk and 5.18×10⁻⁸ M and 4.38×10⁻⁸ M for serum samples using AdSDPV and AdSSWV, respectively. Recovery studies made of the tablet and serum produced satisfactory results.     

Studies on proton pump inhibitors. I. Synthesis of 8-[(2-benzimidazolyl)sulfinyl]-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinolines and related compounds

Many 8-[(2-benzimidazolyl)sulfinyl]-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinolines were synthesized and examined for their (H+ + K+) adenosine triphosphatase ATPase-inhibitory and antisecretory activities. These sulfinyl compounds could be considered to be rigid analogues of the 2-[(2-pyridyl)methylsulfinyl]benzimidazole class of antisecretory agents. All the compounds tested were potent inhibitors of (H+ + K+)ATPase. Most of the compounds also inhibited histamine-induced gastric acid secretion in rats. Among them, 8-[(5-fluoro-2-benzimidazolyl)sulfinyl]-3-methyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroqu inoline (XIVm) was found to have the most potent activity. The structure-activity relationships are discussed.     

One-pot synthesis of 4-substituted 4-alkoxy-1,4-dihydro-3,1-benzoxazine-2-thiones by the reaction of 2-isothiocyanatobenzoates with organolithiums

An efficient one-pot procedure for the preparation of 4-substituted 4-alkoxy-1,4-dihydro-3,1-benzoxazine-2-thiones from 2-isothiocyanatobenzoates has been developed. Thus, 2-isothiocyanatobenzoates were reacted with organolithiums including lithium enolates of acetates and tertiary acetamides in THF at −78 °C to give the desired products in generally good yields.
