We prove the Mayberry-Murasugi formula for links in homology 3-spheres, which was proved before only for links in the 3-sphere. Our proof uses Franz-Reidemeister torsions.

A new oxazolidine derivative was obtained from phenol, 2‐amino‐2‐methylpropane‐1,3‐diol and paraformaldehyde. The reaction of this novel oxazolidine diol with phenylisocyanate lead to a urethane model compound which can be polymerized thermally by oxazolidine ring opening to give a Mannich bridge structure. Linear segmented polyurethanes were prepared by reaction of different ratios of oxazolidine diol and commercial polyethylenglycol (Mw ~ 400) with 4,4′‐methylenbis (cyclohexylisocyanate) (HMDI, 90% isomers mixture). The polyurethanes were thermally characterized and crosslinked by oxazolidine ring opening to obtain materials which showed improved thermal stability. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The disarrangement of a perturbed lattice of vortices was studied numerically. The basic state is an exponentially decaying, exact solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. Square arrays of vortices with even numbers of vortex cells along each side were perturbed and their evolution was investigated. Whether the energy in the perturbation grows somewhat before it decays or decays monotonically depends on the initial strength of the vortices of the basic state, the extent of lateral confinement and the structure of the perturbation. The critical condition for temporally local instability, i.e. the critical amplitude of the basic state that must be exceeded to allow energy transfer from the basic state to the perturbation, is discussed. In the strongly confined case of a square lattice of four vortices the appearance of enchancement of global rotation is the result of energy transfer from the basic state to a temporally local unstable mode. Energy is transferred from the basic state to larger-scaled structures (inverse cascade) only if the scales of the larger structures are inherently contained in the initial structure of the perturbation. The initial structure of the double array of vortices is not maintained except for a very special form of perturbation. The facts that large scales decay more slowly than small scales and that, when non-linearities are sufficiently strong, energy is transferred from one scale to another explain the differences in the disarrangement process for different initial strengths of the vortices of the basic state. The stronger vortices, i.e. the vortices perturbed in a manner that increases their strength, tend to dominate the weaker vortices. The pairing and subsequent merging (or capture) of vortices of like sense into larger-scale vortices are described in terms of peaks in the evolution of the square root of the palinstrophy divided by the enstrophy.  相似文献

Previous work carried out in our laboratories has focused on the formation and investigation of a dextran and concanavalin A (con A) based gel, which has the ability to alter its conformational structure in the presence and absence of free and terminal glucoses such that a gel–sol phase transition occurs. Here we report the diffusion and rheological investigations in to the effects of the addition of insulin and varyingconcentrations of magnesium chloride hexahydrate (Mg2Cl26H2O) at 20 and 37 °C. Rheological examination of glucose-sensitive (dextran-con A) gels were conducted using a cone and plate viscometer used in continual rotation and oscillatory modes. The results are interpreted in terms of the structure of the gel network and suggest rheological assessment provides an effective method of assessing the properties of gel systems. The subsequent testing of such formulations in in-vitro diffusion experiments revealed a reduction in the rate of diffusivity in the insulin marker, poly R-478 dye. The performance of this self-regulating drug delivery system has been examined and the addition of insulin and magnesium chloride may alter the way in which the gel operates as a drug delivery device and in the delivery of insulin. This may have implications for other ligands.  相似文献

A critical review of known results about the permanence conditions for the null character of the solutions to the (vacuum) Maxwell equations, is presented. Concomitants of the electromagnetic field and the metric tensor are constructed, which give the principal directions of the field in covariant form. An analytical procedure is described for a comprehensive determination of the composition of hydrocarbons in the atmosphere, based on: (a) aerosol filtration and subsequent adsorption of the vapor phase onto active charcoal and polyurethane foam; (b) GPC and HPLC fractionation of the extracts, and (c) analysis of the fractions by GC-MS under EI and NICI modes. Special emphasis is placed onn-alkanes, PAHs and their oxygenated derivatives.The characterization of samples collected in a coastal urban area (Barcelona city), and far away over the Western Mediterranean, at sea level and at 1100 m of altitude, revealed significant changes in the aerosol composition, mainly attributed to initial vapor-particle partitioning processes, influenced by ambient temperature variations, and to others taking place during long-range atmospheric transport, related with the different compound photoreactivities and with an unexplained source-decoupling phenomenon.  相似文献

Abstract Porphyrins, which may be introduced into the eye as a result of abnormal porphyrin metabolism (uroporphyrin–Uro) or when used in the diagnosis or photodynamic therapy of certain tumors, including intraocular tumors (hematoporphyrin–Hp and'hematoporphyrin derivative'–Hpd and mesotetra( P -sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin–TPPS) are efficient photosensitizers in biological systems. We have been studying the potential phototoxic side effects of these drugs in the lens of the eye. Encapsulated in the human lens is a mixture of soluble protein crystallins. With little turnover of protein in the lens, any photosensitized modifications will accumulate and may result in an opacification of the lens. To evaluate the potential of different porphyrins to induce such damage, a series of porphyrins were photolyzed (transmission above 295 nm) in the presence of calf lens protein (2 mg m−1). Marked photopolymerization and histidine destruction were observed for the lens protein photolyzed in the presence of all of the drugs. We have found that the relative effectiveness of the following porphyrins to induce that damage is: Uro = TPPS Hpd = Hp. Both the singlet oxygen quencher, azide, and the free radical scavenger, penicillamine, decrease this photosensitized oxidative damage to lens protein. TPPS binds significantly to lens protein and this binding leads to conformational changes in that protein.  相似文献

Smoothness/defectiveness of the carbon material surface is a key issue for many applications, spanning from electronics to reinforced materials, adsorbents and catalysis. Several surface defects cannot be observed with conventional analytic techniques, thus requiring the development of a new imaging approach. Here, we evaluate a convenient method for mapping such “hidden” defects on the surface of carbon materials using 1–5 nm metal nanoparticles as markers. A direct relationship between the presence of defects and the ordering of nanoparticles was studied experimentally and modeled using quantum chemistry calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. An automated pipeline for analyzing microscopic images is described: the degree of smoothness of experimental images was determined by a classification neural network, and then the images were searched for specific types of defects using a segmentation neural network. An informative set of features was generated from both networks: high-dimensional embeddings of image patches and statics of defect distribution.

Defectiveness of carbon material surface is a key issue for many applications. Pd-nanoparticle SEM imaging was used to highlight “hidden” defects and analyzed by neural networks to solve order/disorder classification and defect segmentation tasks.  相似文献
