Abstract— The ability of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch, to detect and avoid various wavelengths was examined. The mites were given a choice between two regions: an area on a leaf exposed to light of defined spectral composition or an area protected from certain selected wavelength components. The mites showed little avoidance of visible, UV-A or UV-C wavelengths. In contrast, the animals strongly avoided the UV-B spectral region, indicating that this arthropod can discriminate and respond to the presence of UV-B wavelengths. The adult mites did not appear to be killed by the amount of UV-B they could receive on a sunny summer day in Kentucky (i.e. 20 SU). However, the egg laying capacity of the females was reduced in a linear fashion as dose increased. Thus, avoidance of high UV-B regions on a leaf may contribute to the survival of the species in nature.  相似文献

Hydrophobically modified poly(ethylene oxide), HMPEO, was studied in concentrated salt solutions. The influence of salts was compared to the effect of temperature on poly(ethylene oxide), PEO. As expected, the addition of monovalent cations (Na(+), K(+)) has the same effect as an increase in temperature in agreement with the thermodynamic properties of PEO: a decrease in solubility, micelle size, and viscosity was observed. Moreover, the intensity of neutron scattering peaks (characteristic of the semi-dilute solutions of these associative polymers) increases due to the collapse of PEO coronae in micelles. Very peculiar behavior was observed in the presence of divalent cations (Ca(2+), Mg(2+)): larger micelle aggregates and higher viscosities, relaxation times, and activation energies were observed by dynamic rheology. This behavior is attributed to interactions between divalent cations and oxygen in PEO backbones close to the micelle core, which may reinforce intermicellar bridges.  相似文献

Monometallic gold(I)‐alkynyl‐helicene complexes ( 1 a , b ) and bimetallic gold(I)‐alkynyl‐helicene architectures featuring the presence ( 2 a , b ) or absence ( 3 a , b ) of aurophilic intramolecular interactions were prepared by using different types of phosphole ligands (mono‐phosphole L1 or bis‐phospholes L2 , 3 ). The influence of the AuI d10 metal center(s) on the electronic, photophysical, and chiroptical properties of these unprecedented phosphole‐gold(I)‐alkynyl‐helicene complexes was examined. Experimental and theoretical results highlight the importance of ligand‐to‐ligand‐type charge transfers and the strong effect of the presence or absence of AuI–AuI interactions in 2 a , b .  相似文献

Helicenes are fascinating molecules owing to their unusual properties and applications in many fields from catalysis to organic electronics. Herein, we report a straightforward pathway for the synthesis of helicene‐like molecules on a gram scale in an enantiopure form. Thin‐film materials with good propagating optical properties and very high chiroptical responses have been grown by using pulsed laser ablation without altering the structure or the enantiopurity of the molecules. Moreover, electronic and vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopies coupled with theoretical calculations enabled some dependences of the chiroptical properties with the structure to be highlighted, for example, effects of rigidification, aromatization, or the state of matter (liquid versus solid).  相似文献

Malaria remains one of the leading causes of death in sub-Saharan Africa, ranked in the top three infectious diseases in the world. Plants of the Eriosema genus have been reported to be used for the treatment of this disease, but scientific evidence is still missing for some of them. In the present study, the in vitro antiplasmodial activity of the crude extract and compounds from Eriosema montanum Baker f. roots were tested against the 3D7 strain of Plasmodium falciparum and revealed using the SYBR Green, a DNA intercalating compound. The cytotoxicity effect of the compounds on a human cancer cell line (THP-1) was assessed to determine their selectivity index. It was found that the crude extract of the plant displayed a significant antiplasmodial activity with an IC50 (µg/mL) = 17.68 ± 4.030 and a cytotoxic activity with a CC50 (µg/mL) = 101.5 ± 12.6, corresponding to a selective antiplasmodial activity of 5.7. Bioactivity-guided isolation of the major compounds of the roots’ crude extract afforded seven compounds, including genistein, genistin and eucomic acid. Under our experimental conditions, using Artemisinin as a positive control, eucomic acid showed the best inhibitory activity against the P. falciparum 3D7, a well-known chloroquine-sensitive strain. The present results provide a referential basis to support the traditional use of Eriosema species in the treatment of malaria.  相似文献

Many nitrogen- and sulfur-containing heterocyclic compounds exhibit biological activity. Among these heterocycles are benzo[4,5]thiazolo[2,3-c][1,2,4]triazoles for which two main synthetic approaches exist. Here we report a new synthetic protocol that allows the preparation of these tricyclic compounds via the oxidation of a mercaptophenyl moiety to its corresponding disulfide. Subsequent C-H bond functionalization is thought to enable an intramolecular ring closure, thus forming the desired benzo[4,5]thiazolo[2,3-c][1,2,4]triazole. This method combines a high functional group tolerance with short reaction times and good to excellent yields.  相似文献
