Density functional theory was used to investigate the oxidative addition and subsequent carbonyl insertion and deinsertion steps of the reaction of methyl iodide to a rhodium(I) acetylacetonato complex of the formula [Rh(acac)(CO)(PPh(3))] (Hacac = acetylacetone). This process has been studied experimentally for many rhodium β-diketonato complexes, but, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first systematic computational study of the complete reaction sequence. Experimental (1)H techniques complement the theoretical results on the stereochemistry of the reaction intermediates and products. (1)H NMR also revealed the existence of a second rhodium(III)-acyl product, which has not been previously observed in this reaction. The calculated Gibbs free energy of activation of the oxidative addition reaction is 71 kJ mol(-1), which is in agreement with the experimental value of 82(1) kJ mol(-1). The DFT-calculated oxidative addition corresponds to an associative S(N)2 nucleophilic attack by the rhodium metal centre on the methyl iodide, which is in agreement with calculated and experimental (in brackets) activation parameters of the reaction, 27 (38.8) kJ mol(-1) for ΔH((≠)) and -147 (-146) J K(-1) mol(-1) for ΔS((≠)).  相似文献

A series of ferrocene-containing rhodium complexes of the type [Rh(FcCOCHCOR)(cod)] (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) with R = CF(3), 1, (E(pa)(Rh) = 269; E(o)'(Fc) = 329 mV vs. Fc/Fc(+)), CCl(3), 2, (E(pa) = 256; E(o)' = 312 mV), CH(3), 3, (E(pa) = 177; E(o)' = 232 mV), Ph = C(6)H(5), 4, (E(pa) = 184; E(o)' = 237 mV), and Fc = ferrocenyl = (C(5)H(5))Fe(C(5)H(4)), 5, (E(pa) = 135; E(o)'(Fc1) = 203; E(o)'(Fc2) = 312 mV), have been studied electrochemically in CH(3)CN. Results indicated that the rhodium(I) centre is irreversibly oxidised to Rh(III) in a two-electron transfer process before the ferrocenyl fragment is reversibly oxidized in a one-electron transfer process. The peak anodic (oxidation) potential, E(pa), (in V vs. Fc/Fc(+)) of the rhodium core in 1-5 relates to k(2), the second-order rate constant for the substitution of (FcCOCHCOR)(-) with 1,10-phenanthroline in [Rh(FcCOCHCOR)(cod)] to form [Rh(phen)(cod)](+) in methanol at 25 °C with the equation lnk(2) = 39.5 E(pa)(Rh) - 3.69, while the formal oxidation potential of the ferrocenyl groups in 1-5 relates to k(2) by lnk(2) = 40.8 E(o)'(Fc)-6.34. Complex 4 (IC(50) = 28.2 μmol dm(-3)) was twice as cytotoxic as the free FcCOCH(2)COPh ligand having IC(50) = 54.2 μmol dm(-3), but approximately one order of magnitude less toxic to human HeLa neoplastic cells than cisplatin (IC(50) = 2.3 μmol dm(-3)).  相似文献

Air oxidation of ortho-fluorodithizone resulted in the first X-ray resolved structure of a disulfide of dithizone, validating the last outstanding X-ray structure in the oxidation of dithizone, H(2)Dz, which proceeds via the disulfide, (HDz)(2), to the deprotonated dehydrodithizone tetrazolium salt, Dz. Density functional theory calculations established the energetically favored tautomers along the entire pathway; in gas phase and in polar as well as nonpolar solvent environments. DFT calculations using the classic pure OLYP and PW91, or the newer B3LYP hybrid functional, as well as MP2 calculations, yielded the lowest energy structures in agreement with corresponding experimental X-ray crystallographic results. Atomic charge distribution patterns confirmed the cyclization reaction pathway and crystal packing of Dz. Time dependent DFT for the first time gave satisfactory explanation for the solvatochromic properties of dithizone, pointing to different tautomers that give rise to the observed orange color in methanol and green in dichloromethane. Concentratochromism of H(2)Dz was observed in methanol. Computed orbitals and oscillators are in close agreement with UV-visible spectroscopic experimental results.  相似文献

In view of the important role of dithizone in trace metal analyses, new structural aspects and approaches used to probe metal complexes of dithizone are of interest. Three X-ray diffraction structures are reported, dichloridobis(dithizonato)tin(IV), dichlorido(dithizonato)antimony(III), and bis(dithizonato)copper(II). During synthesis of the tin complex, auto-oxidation of SnIICl2 to SnIV occurred without chloride liberation. The SbIII complex revealed a unique distorted see-saw geometry which is, as for the other complexes, predicted by DFT molecular orbital calculations. The computed products of the lowest energy reactions are in agreement with experimentally obtained reaction products, which, together with molecular orbital renderings serve as a tool toward prediction of modes of coordination in these complexes. The S–M–N bond angle in the five-membered coordination ring shows a linear relationship with the corresponding metal ionic radii.  相似文献

DFT(PW91/TZP) calculations, including full geometry optimizations, have been carried on [FeII(P)(NO2)]-, Fe(III)(P)(NO2), [Fe(II)(P)(NO2)(py)]-, Fe(III)(P)(NO2)(py), [Fe(III)(P)(NO2)2]-, and Fe(III)(P)(NO2)(NO), where P is the unsubstituted porphine dianion, as well as on certain picket fence porphyrin (TPivPP) analogues. The bonding in [Fe(II)(P)(NO2)]- and Fe(III)(P)(NO2), as well as in their pyridine adducts, reveals a sigma-donor interaction of the nitrite HOMO and the Fe dz2 orbital, where the Fe-Nnitro axis is defined as the z direction and the nitrite plane is identified as xz. Both molecules also feature a pi-acceptor interaction of the nitrite LUMO and the Fe dyz orbital, whereas the SOMO of the Fe(III)-nitro complexes may be identified as dxz. The Fe(III)-nitro porphyrins studied all exhibit extremely high adiabatic electron affinities, ranging from about 2.5 eV for Fe(III)(P)(NO2) and Fe(III)(P)(NO2)(py) to about 3.4 eV for their TPivPP analogues. Transition-state optimizations for oxygen-atom transfer from Fe(III)(P)(NO2) and Fe(III)(P)(NO2)(py) to dimethyl sulfide yielded activation energies of 0.45 and 0.77 eV, respectively, which is qualitatively consistent with the observed far greater stability of Fe(III)(TPivPP)(NO2)(py) relative to Fe(III)(TPivPP)(NO2). Addition of NO to yield {FeNO}6 nitro-nitrosyl adducts such as Fe(P)(NO2)(NO) provides another mechanism whereby Fe(III)-nitro porphyrins can relieve their extreme electron affinities. In Fe(P)(NO2)(NO), the bonding involves substantial Fe-NO pi-bonding, but the nitrite acts essentially as a simple sigma-donor, which accounts for the relatively long Fe-Nnitro distance in this molecule.  相似文献

The oxidative addition of methyl iodide to [Rh(β-diketonato)(CO)(PPh)3] complexes, as modal catalysts of the first step during the Monsanto process, are well-studied. The β-diketonato ligand is a bidentate (BID) ligand that bonds, through two O donor atoms (O,O-BID ligand), to rhodium. Imino-β-diketones are similar to β-diketones, though the donor atoms are N and O, referred to as an N,O-BID ligand. In this study, the oxidative addition of methyl iodide to [Rh(imino-β-diketonato)(CO)(PPh)3] complexes, as observed on UV–Vis spectrophotometry, IR spectrophotometry and NMR spectrometry, are presented. Experimentally, one isomer of [Rh(CH3COCHCNPhCH3)(CO)(PPh3)] and two isomers of [Rh(CH3COCHCNHCH3)(CO)(PPh3)] are observed—in agreement with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Experimentally the [Rh(CH3COCHCNPhCH3)(CO)(PPh3)] + CH3I reaction proceeds through one reaction step, with a rhodium(III)-alkyl as the final reaction product. However, the [Rh(CH3COCHCNHCH3)(CO)(PPh3)] + CH3I reaction proceeds through two reaction steps, with a rhodium(III)-acyl as the final reaction product. DFT calculations of all the possible reaction products and transition states agree with experimental findings. Due to the smaller electronegativity of N, compared to O, the oxidative addition reaction rate of CH3I to the two [Rh(imino-β-diketonato)(CO)(PPh)3] complexes of this study was 7–11 times faster than the oxidative addition reaction rate of CH3I to [Rh(CH3COCHCOCH3)(CO)(PPh3)].  相似文献

DFT calculations on the spin-crossover complex Fe(salen)(NO) provide a striking illustration of the comparative performance of different exchange-correlation functionals vis-à-vis the issue of transition metal spin state energetics. Thus, although the "classic" pure functionals PW91 and BLYP favor the S = 1/2 state by about 10 kcal/mol, relative to the S = 3/2 state, the hybrid functional B3LYP favors the latter state by nearly the same margin. In contrast, the newer pure functionals OLYP and OPBE, based on the OPTX exchange functional, as well as the B3LYP* hybrid functional (which has 15% Hartree-Fock exchange, compared with 20% for B3LYP) predict nearly isoenergetic S = 1/2 and 3/2 states, as required for a spin-crossover complex. Intriguingly, the OLYP and B3LYP* spin density profiles for the S = 1/2 state of Fe(salen)(NO) are substantially dissimilar.  相似文献
