A versatile and practical synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes/bis(indolyl)glycoconjugates catalyzed by trichloro-1,3,5-triazine

A practical and efficient electrophilic substitution reaction of indoles with a variety of aldehydes was carried out using catalytic trichloro-1,3,5-triazine (10 mol %) in acetonitrile to furnish the corresponding bis(indolyl)methanes in excellent yields. Similarly, sugar derived aldehydes gave hitherto unknown bis(indolyl)glycoconjugates in very good yields.     

Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) Probe for <Emphasis Type="Italic">In-situ</Emphasis> Nitric Oxide Concentration Measurement in a Non-thermal Pulsed Corona Discharge Plasma Reactor

Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) is an effective in-situ probe for NO concentrations below 300 ppm in a non-thermal plasma reactor. A new method has been developed to measure in-situ NO concentration in the reactor discharge region using a long-time—on the order of seconds—averaged fluorescence detection. This method, for quantifying NO concentration in a nonthermal plasma reactor, is simpler than a short-time—on the order of nanoseconds—fluorescence detection. For accurate measurement based on the new method, the LIF intensity must be close to the corona-induced fluorescence (CIF) intensity; the CIF intensity serves as a guide in selecting the LIF intensity. We find that a kinetic model proposed earlier works for two-tube reactors and represents the NO concentration in the middle of the reactor, which verifies the assumption of gas plug flow.     

Palladium(II) complexes ofN-alkyl phenothiazines

Summary Eight square-planar palladium(II) complexes, PdLCl₂ (L=N-alkyl phenothiazine) have been synthesized. First synthesis and determination of the absolute stereochemistry of iso-cladospolide-B and cladospolides-B and C

The syntheses of iso-cladospolide-B, cladospolide-B and cladospolide-C are reported with 4S,5S,11S-configuration. Of the three stereogenic centres, the C-4/C-5 vic-diol was created by Evans aldol condensation, while the C-11 stereocentre was created by Jacobsen’s method. The synthesis of cladospolides 1-3 defined the absolute stereochemistry of these natural products.     

Synthesis of Novel Fused Thiazolo[3,2‐a]pyrimidin‐3‐ols and Evaluation for their Antibacterial Activity

A series of novel fused thiazolo[3,2‐a]pyrimidin‐3‐ol derivatives have been synthesized by reaction of fused pyrimidine‐thiones with 4‐substituted phenacyl bromide/3(2‐bromoacetyl)coumarin in refluxing acetic acid with good yields. All the synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectral studies and screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus thuringiensis (Gram positive), Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae (Gram negative) bacterial strains. Activity results revealed that all the compounds were weak to good active against the tested bacterial strains on comparing with the standard drug gentamicin.     

Pyrid-2-yl and 2-CyanoPhenyl fused heterocyclic compounds as human P2X_{3} inhibitors: a combined approach based on homology modelling,docking and QSAR analysis

P2X receptors are hetero-oligomeric proteins that function as membrane ion channels and are gated by extracellular ATP. The hP2X $_{3}$ subunit is a constituent of the channels on a subset of sensory neurons involved in pain signaling, where ATP released by damaged and inflamed tissue can initiate action potentials. Hence, the inhibition of ATP-activated P2X $_{3}$ receptor is an exciting approach for the treatment of inflammatory and neuropathic pain. Recently, the crystal structures of zebrafish P2X $_{4}$ (zP2X $_{4})$ were obtained in closed, apo state (PDB ID: 3I5D) and ATP-bound, open state (PDB ID: 4DW1). These structures were used to develop a homology model of human P2X $_{3}$ (hP2X $_{3})$ in order to identify through docking studies, the binding modes of known P2X $_{3}$ inhibitors and their key active site interactions, along with a pharmacophore-based 3D-QSAR model for a series of 136 Pyrid-2-yl and 2-CyanoPhenyl fused heterocyclic compounds. These 3D-QSAR models have been developed with different combinations of training and test set divisions obtained by random separation, Jarvis–Patrick clustering, K-means clustering and sphere exclusion methods. The best predictive 3D-QSAR model resulted in training set R $^{2 }$ of 0.75, internal test set Q $^{2}$ of 0.74, Pearson-R value of 0.87 and root mean square error of 0.37. The information generated by the pharmacophore model and docking analyses using the homology model provides valuable clues to design novel potent hP2X $_{3}$ inhibitors.     

Highly sensitive extractive spectrophotometric determination of palladium(II) in synthetic mixtures and hydrogenation catalysts using benzildithiosemicarbazone.

A simple and highly sensitive method was developed for the extractive-spectrophotometric determination of palladium with benzilidithiosemicarbazone. The metal ion formed a reddish brown complex with benzildithiosemicarbazone in a potassium chloride-hydrochloric acid buffer of pH 2.5, which was easily extractable into methyl isobutyl ketone. The 1:1 complex showed the maximum absorbance at 395 nm with a Beer's law range of 0.25-3.5 ppm. The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity were found to be 3.018 x 10(4) dm3 mol(-1) cm(-1) and 0.0035 microg cm(-2), respectively. The correlation coefficient of the Pd(II)-BDTSC complex was 0.998, which indicated an excellent linearity between the two variables. The repeatability of the method was checked by finding the relative standard deviation (RSD) (n = 10), which was 0.46%. The instability constant of the complex calculated from Edmond and Birnbaum's method was 2.41 x 10(-5), that of Asmus' method is 2.53 x 10(-5) at room temperature. The interfering effects of various cations and anions were studied. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of palladium(II) in synthetic mixtures and hydrogenation catalysts. The validity of the method was tested by comparing the results with those obtained using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
