Stoner-Wohlfarth-type behavior of a close-packed array of high-anisotropy hexaferrite nanoparticles

Magnetization and remagnetization processes in a close-packed nanodispersed barium hexaferrite powder sample in the magnetically stable state were analyzed. Reversibility effects were discussed in terms of interparticle interaction. Judging from the magnetization curve and the parameters characterizing remagnetization irreversibility, the sample under study is a model system of small Stoner-Wohlfarth particles.     

Synthesis of ordered Ge-Si heterostructures containing ultrasmall germanium nanoclusters

Different techniques for the fabrication of structures containing ensembles of ultrasmall germanium nanoclusters distributed with a high density over the substrate surface are discussed. How to control the morphology and ordering of these ensembles is also discussed.     

Extending analyticK-subanalytic functions

Letg:U→ℝ (U open in ℝⁿ) be an analytic and K-subanalytic (i. e. definable in ℝ _an ^K , whereK, the field of exponents, is any subfield ofℝ) function. Then the set of points, denoted Σ, whereg does not admit an analytic extension is K-subanalytic andg can be extended analytically to a neighbourhood of Ū\∑. Boundary G/G Theory and Topological Poisson–Lie Sigma Model

We study a boundary version of the gauged WZW model with a Poisson–Lie group G as the target. The Poisson–Lie structure of G is used to define the Wess–Zumino term of the action on surfaces with boundary. We clarify the relation of the model to the topological Poisson sigma model with the dual Poisson–Lie group G ^* as the target and show that the phase space of the theory on a strip is essentially the Heisenberg double of G introduced by Semenov–Tian–Shansky.     

Change in the nature of the Ni diffusion mechanism on the Si(111) surface with adsorption of Co atoms

The diffusion of Ni on a Si (111) surface is investigated by LEED and Auger electron spectroscopy. It is found that, in contrast to the process on the initially clean Si (111)−7×7 surface, on Si (111) surfaces with submonolayer Co coverages the nature of the Ni transport mechanism changes at a temperature of about 750 °C, and the Ni surface diffusion coefficients increase sharply below this temperature. Approximation of Matrices and a Family of Gander Methods for Polar Decomposition

Two matrix approximation problems are considered: approximation of a rectangular complex matrix by subunitary matrices with respect to unitarily invariant norms and a minimal rank approximation with respect to the spectral norm. A characterization of a subunitary approximant of a square matrix with respect to the Schatten norms, given by Maher, is extended to the case of rectangular matrices and arbitrary unitarily invariant norms. Iterative methods, based on the family of Gander methods and on Higham’s scaled method for polar decomposition of a matrix, are proposed for computing subunitary and minimal rank approximants. Surface electromagnetic waves at the interface between two dielectric superlattices

The electrodynamic properties of the interface between two periodic dielectric superlattices are studied. It is shown that the interface may serve as a guide for an electromagnetic wave whose field decays exponentially on both sides of the plane of the interface. The field and power flux distributions, as well as the frequency dependence of the field penetration depth, are studied.     

Synthesis of vanadium-phosphorus oxide catalysts deposited onto silica-carbon supports

Effect of conditions of hydrothermal and microwave synthesis of supported vanadium-phosphorus oxide catalysts in an aqueous medium on the physicochemical properties of the vanadyl hydrophosphate obtained was studied. The transformations occurring in the system were examined using X-ray phase and differential-thermal analyses, adsorption-structural method, and scanning electron microscopy.     

Morphology and spectral properties of thin films of benzoxazole derivatives of biphenyl

We have studied the spectral properties and morphology of thin films (TVD films) formed by thermal vacuum deposition of 4,4′-bis[(E)-1-(1,3-benzoxazol-2-yl)-2-ethenyl]-1,1′-biphenyl and its substituted derivatives. We have shown that introducing bulky 2,2′-oxyhexyl substituents into the biphenyl units leads to a shift of the fluorescence maximum for the TVD films toward shorter wavelengths, a decrease in their photostability, and aggregation of the films during storage. __________ Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Spektroskopii, Vol. 74, No. 3, pp. 300–303, May–June, 2007.
