Hydrolysis of phosphorus acid esters in the sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate—<Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis>-nonane—polyethylene glycol—water supramolecular system before and after the percolation threshold

The kinetics of alkaline hydrolysis of O-ethyl O-p-nitrophenyl chloromethylphosphonate in a sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate—n-nonane—polyethylene glycol—water reverse micellar system was studied in a wide range of concentrations of the surfactant and water. The sign of the catalytic effect of micelles is inverted in the presence of the polymer. A sharp change in the apparent rate constant of hydrolysis of the phosphonate was found in a region of the temperature percolation threshold. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Synthetic receptors based on calix[4]arene functionalized at the lower rim in molecular recognition of dicarboxylic, α-hydroxycarboxylic,and α-amino acids

New calix[4]arenes, di- and tetrasubstituted at the lower rim, with different functional groups were synthesized. They were studied as carriers of a series of dicarboxylic and -hydroxycarboxylic acids through a liquid impregnated membrane. The calix[4]arenes under study are capable of molecular recognition of oxalic acid in the series of structurally similar dicarboxylic and -hydroxycarboxylic acids. The regularities found make it possible to change purposefully the receptor ability of 1,3-disubstituted calix[4]arenes by variation of the nature of substituents.

Micellization and catalytic activity of the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-Brij 97-water mixed micellar system

Surface tension measurements and the kinetic study of the basic hydrolysis of ethyl p-nitrophenyl chloromethyl phosphonate were used to examine the structural behavior and catalytic activity of the cethyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-polyoxyethylene (10) oleyl ether, C(18)H(35)(OCH(2)CH(2))(10)OH (Brij 97)-water mixed micellar system. Application of the regular solution model to the experimental data yields the value of the interaction parameter beta as -4.6, which indicates an attractive interaction of the surfactants in the mixed micelle and reflects synergistic solution behavior of the mixture. The mixed micellar composition is found to be enriched in the surfactant with the lower critical micelle concentration (cmc). In the kinetic study a nonmonotonic change in the pseudo-first-order rate constant of basic hydrolysis of the substrate is observed with increasing mole fraction of nonionic surfactant. The pseudophase micellar model reveals that the concentration factor mainly contributes to the catalytic effect, while the microenvironmental factor plays a negative role.

Purification of low-paraffinous oil fractions using the two-phase extracting system ionic liquid + supercritical carbon dioxide

Use of the two-phase extracting system ionic liquid (IL)—supercritical CO₂ for selective purification of medium-viscosity oil fractions from a mixture of low-paraffinous Azerbaijan crude oils results in a three- to sixfold reduction of selective solvent (IL) consumption. The use of such a two-phase system allows one to decrease the temperature (from 80 to 31°C) and the duration of the process.     

Regioselective alkylation of the lower rim of p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene with N-(p-nitrophenyl)-α-bromoacetamide

The preparation of partially substituted thiacalix[4]arenes 2–6 has been accomplished by conducting the reaction of the thiacalixarene 1 with N-(p-nitrophenyl)-α-bromoacetamide in acetone or acetonitrile in the presence of M₂CO₃ (M = Na, K and Cs). The influence of the reaction conditions (temperature, time, solvent, ratio of the reagents and the nature of the alkali metal carbonate) on regio- and stereoselectivity of this reaction is described.     

Transformations of [Au(CN)2]− at the contact with activated carbon surface

We have studied the processes occurring when alkaline aqueous solution of Na[Au(CN)₂] is brought in contact with activated carbon surface. It has been shown that the adsorption of the gold cyanide complex occurs via several independent routes, one of them being accompanied with the partial breakdown of the inner sphere of the compound and free cyanide ions release into the solution. The latter process decreases the gold recovery by aqueous NaOH during the high-temperature (150°C) desorption. A prolonged storage of the adsorbent saturated with [Au(CN)₂]^? in air produces a similar result. The reasons of the observed phenomena have been discussed.
