Production of polyacrylonitrile particles by precipitation polymerization in supercritical carbon dioxide

Polyacrylonitrile particles were produced by precipitation polymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) without any colloidal stabilizer in supercritical carbon dioxide as a polymerization medium at about 30 MPa for 24 h at 65 °C at different initiator concentrations (0.8–45.2 mmol/l) and at different AN concentrations (10–40% w/v). An increase in the initiator concentration led to increases in the conversion and in the degree of coagulation and to a decrease in the molecular weight. At AN concentration of 20% w/v, micron-sized, relatively monodisperse polyacrylonitrile particles with clean and uneven surfaces were produced.     

Regioselectivity in palladium-indium iodide-mediated allylation reaction of glyoxylic oxime ether and N-sulfonylimine

Allylation reaction of electron-deficient imines with allylic alcohol derivatives in the presence of a catalytic amount of palladium(0) complex and indium(I) iodide was studied. The reversibility of allylation was observed in the reaction of glyoxylic oxime ether having camphorsultam. As the important effect of water on regioselectivity, the gamma-adducts were kinetically formed from monosubstituted allylic reagents in the presence of water. The selective formation of thermodynamically stable alpha-adducts was observed in anhydrous THF. In contrast, the allylation of N-sulfonylimine gave the gamma-adducts with high regioselectivities even under anhydrous reaction conditions.     

Polymerization of acrylamide initiated with pinacol–ceric ion redox system

Polymerization of acrylamide initiated with a pinacol–ceric ion redox system was investigated. The polymer obtained was found to contain one cerium atom in a polymer molecule. It was considered that the cerium atom was introduced into the polymer molecule by the termination reaction as there is no cerium atom in the initiating radical in the present system. A similar termination reaction was attained by ferric ion but not by cerous ion. The metal ion was considered to terminate the polymerization to form a stable polymer. Some considerations on the structure of the reaction product relating to the polymerization mechanism were discussed.     

Asymmetric synthesis of alpha-amino acids: indium-mediated reactions of glyoxylic oxime ether in aqueous media

The indium-mediated allylation and alkylation reactions of the Oppolzer camphorsultam derivative of glyoxylic oxime ether proceeded with excellent diastereoselectivity in aqueous media, providing a variety of enantiomerically pure alpha-amino acids.     

Stannyl radical addition-cyclization of oxime ethers connected with olefins

Stannyl radical addition-cyclization of oxime ethers connected with olefin moieties was studied. The radical reactions proceeded effectively by the use of triethylborane as a radical initiator to provide the functionalized pyrrolidines via a carbon-carbon bond-forming process.     

Enantioselectively catalyzed oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine by N-lauroyl L or D-histidine-Cu(II) complex in CTABr micelles.

In order to investigate the enzyme model reaction the oxidation of 3,4-dihydihydroxy-L-phenylalanine(L-DOPA) was carried out using optically active catalyst, N-lauroyl L or D-histidine-Cu(II) complex(L or D-LauHis-Cu(II)), showing appreciable enantioselectivity in the presence of the mixed micelles with CTABr.     

Synthesis of bis(alk-3-en-1-ynyl)benzene with either E- or Z-configuration via a one-pot three-component coupling reaction and its optical properties

A convenient, efficient and stereoselective synthesis of a range of bis(alk-3-en-1-ynyl)benzenes with E- and Z-configuration is described. The protocol involves Cu-mediated cross-coupling reaction of (E)- and (Z)-alk-1-enyldisiamylboranes with (trimethylsilyl)ethynyl bromide and Pd/Cu-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with diiodobenzene. The sequential cross-coupling reaction proceeds readily under extremely mild conditions in a one-pot manner to afford bis(alk-3-en-1-ynyl)benzenes in good to excellent yields. The optical properties of the products are also described.     

Single-bubble sonochemiluminescence in aqueous luminol solutions

Sonochemiluminescence (SCL) of luminol due to a single bubble is studied through spectral measurement. No SCL was observed from a stable single bubble that emitted high-intensity sonoluminescence (SL). In contrast, SCL was observed under conditions of an unstable dancing bubble, where a bubble grows and ejects tiny bubbles, making it "dance" by counteraction. Furthermore, SCL was observed from dancing bubbles even when SL was not observed, depending on the dissolved gas content. The instability of bubble collapse is the key parameter governing SCL.
